happy.gif That is from another post I made, but after reading that I thought 'if I ever win big money then I am moving to the state that you are in, where you can get 100plus acres of land, PLUS a nice home for $300k!!!!!' blink.gif blink.gif

kayla's mama replied: That's how it is here in the most Northwestern tip of MS.

It shocks me that 300,000 can get you a really nice house somewhere and then somewhere else just a run of the mill type of house, kwim!!!!

coasterqueen replied: But I bet the salary levels are lower, or more comparable to the area, KWIM?

Kaitlin'smom replied: ohmy.gif wow 300,000 here I could get the home I want.

amymom replied: click on my name and you will see my house. 6 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths. Might sell for 160,000 if you got the right buyer. But most houses in this town go for 60-70,000. We just put 35,000 of upkeep work into the outside of the house (plus furnace and a/c), but still if we tried to sell it today (which we wouldn't) I don't think we would get offered more than 100,000. We have about 1/2 an acre of property. It's 20 miles to the nearest Walmart!!!

TANNER'S MOM replied: Yes I would say cost of living is definetly cheaper than some places.. until you get new Wal Mart home office then it's outrageous.

House in townHere is a house in a nice neighborhood with a beautiful poo for 175,000

Another house in town
House in country in 10 acres

I am just doign a quick look and I can't find any land right now.. but thats what I got now..

TANNER'S MOM replied: House and land

And the real estate agent is called Dial a Mule.. is that like Call an A$$???

amymom replied:
that is funny rolling_smile.gif

Cece00 replied: $300k would buy a pretty nice home depending on the neighborhood here. In one neighborhood (like my mom's, which is a very nice neighborhood with a mix of older & newer homes) it would buy a pretty nice house with a little land. In this new subdivision right down the road $300k would buy you a condo or a small house. The average houses in there are about $5-600k, with very little yard space. I live in LOUISIANA, so its weird to see houses that expensive here.

amymom replied: My brother sent me this website awhile ago. It shows home values in different areas. It is interesting to look at. (not always accurate but interesting still)

home values

~Roo'sMama~ replied: OMG Mel... you might end up with a lot of new neighbors from PC from this! rolling_smile.gif Around here it is almost $200,000 for just your run of the mill nothing special 2-3 bedroom, 1 bathroom house! We paid $83,000 for our 3 bedroom house with a tiny yard, but it was barely livable when we moved in. Actually by most people's standards it wasn't even close to livable, we just lived in it anyways. rolleyes.gif And we had to get appliances and fix the plumbing before we could even move in. The only thing it came with was a dishwasher and the furnace. We had to get a stove, fridge and washer and dryer. We've been slowly trying to make improvements since then - it's been almost 2 years and so far we've painted the 3 main rooms downstairs, put woodwork on the downstairs windows and tiled the mudroom floor. dry.gif

luvbug00 replied: WOW!! I need to move!!

Here 200,000 will get you a 1 bedroom condo at best!
300,00 will garentee a 2 bedroom but a towhouse your looking at 4 hundred and a full single family home ( not pool or land ) will set you back a half a million at least! lovely dry.gif

luvmykids replied: The town we just moved from is a resort/ski town, $300k will get you just about nada, maybe a condo somewhere or an old run down house, which they call "historic" so you don't feel like you bent over. Any kind of land is outrageous, starting around $70 an acre, up to $200k.

The city we live in now a basic 3bd2ba in a decent neighborhood is $175, very basic. Average home price right now is $260k, and an awesome house in the best neighborhoods or foothills is $500k and up.

A&A'smommy replied:
That is exactly how things are here.. aggravates me to know end.. I'm going to tell my dh yet again to look in arkansas for a place to work tongue.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: I guess we are in the same boat after all Mel, the homes in your state are nice & the $300k homes in our state are nice too. I loved your houses in your state they are beautiful.

user posted image this is in the $140,000 range- a 3/2 1250 sq ft home-- not HUGE, but nice

user posted image this is a 4/2 home for about $300k. It is just shy of 2400sq ft.

Coming from a place where my parents bought their home for $40 some odd thousand dollars, $300k is alot of money. When you consider the lots are usually smaller than theirs, and the homes are about the same size just shaped differently.

CAMSMOM1 replied: Well since I live in California, you can buy a cardboard box for $300,000! rolling_smile.gif

It's ridiculous here! Honestly, why do I live in California? dunno.gif

CAMSMOM1 replied: Oopps! Double post! Well since I have a 2nd post.......

We were looking at house with some land, and all of them are at least $500,000 or higher! ohmy.gif In our dreams!

The house we live in is a 4 bedroom, 2 bath. (we own it) But it was built in the 1970's. rolleyes.gif Thank God the people really did a lot to it before we bought it. But our neighborhood isn't the best. Right now we could probably get $280,000 for it. But if we ever want to upgrade to a new home, or a place in the country, we'd have to be millionaires! wacko.gif

PrairieMom replied: Y-all need to move here. We have a 4 bed 3 bath house with fenced in yard and we payed 136,000. Property value has gone up, I could sell this place for 170,000 easy. Makes me glad I live here!

3_call_me_mama replied: Here 4 years ago we paid about $118,000 for a 3 bedroom 2 bath log home with 1.5 acres on the lake. It's abotu 2900 sq ft total. Now today I could sell it for abotu $205,000. We have remodeled abit, put on a new roof adn added a water softner system. Houses are crazy around here right now compared to what you got 3 years ago. Honestly a house liek Anne's is going for abotu 250,000 easy and some of those fanciers ones liek Nicol posted are goign for about 500K. No one can afford it so peopel from out of state are buying and moving here . It appears though that the market is taking a down ward turn.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
Yep, coming from CA here, so I relate...my parents small 3bed track, built in the 70's, was purchased for about $70K then, but it's now going for $1mill! You can't buy a condo for $300k, let alone $500k out there, not even an apartment. My MIL is building a home for about $3mill! Now you all know why I can't move back to CA where my parents are?? Colorado price range is around $200k-$500k+, depending on how close you are to the city.

coasterqueen replied: You all have to remember that places like California and anywhere for that matter that homes might be more expensive but salaries are comparable. It's like this EVERYWHERE.

Like if I moved to Chicago I'd be renting an apartment for $1800 but the same type of apartment here I could get for less than a grand. BUT my salary would be $10-$20K more, maybe even higher.

So it's all pretty relative.

coasterqueen replied: I just think you all need to build your own home! tongue.gif That saved us a T O N of money building our own home. Course depending on where you build it land can be expensive.
