Minority

holley79 wrote: I was listening to Blue Collar on my Sirius radio this morning. There is a comedian on there who was talking about the most sought against minority there is, Left handed people. I can't think of his name right now but it brought back so many memories from my childhood. It was taboo to be left handed so we were schooled to learn to write right handed. I remember my grandfather always complaining about EVERYTHING being for right handed people and how the manufacturers of can openers were prejudice. To this day we still laugh about it. emlaugh.gif

luvmykids replied: We give my dad a hard time about it constantly and manage to find him some kind of gag gift for every holiday.....he even has a coffee mug for lefties rolling_smile.gif

holley79 replied:
That is hilarious. For my 1ka pa's 50th birthday I bought him this fancy dancey left handed can opener. emlaugh.gif

TheOaf66 replied:
AMEN to that, even hand tools if you can believe it

momtoMegan&Alyxandria replied: A friend of mine is left handed and she has told me stories of how her dad started to be a lefty and his parents tied his left arm down so he couldn't use it to make him a righty. I was kinda hoping that Alyx would turn out to be a lefty. I'm not, but I thought it would be cool.

Our Lil' Family replied: Tim's a lefty and I thank God that Thomas is right handed because I had no idea how I'd teach him to write left handed!

A&A'smommy replied: My brother is left handed, he has had a really hard time with his handwriting for someone reason but he is definitely a lefty wink.gif

hoosier momma replied:
I think my son might be a lefty and teaching him to write scares me to death. We are both right handed so I am clueless. Of course, I have a few years to go.

holley79 replied:
I think it has to do with being in a hurry. My grandfather has really neat hand writing when he takes his time.

Calimama replied: I'm a lefty!! thumb.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied: Both of my parents and all of my siblings are left handed ...

reason number 5,257 why I don't think my father is my father! EITHER WAY, in my house I was the MINORITY!!

Calimama replied:
All of my siblings are right handed as well as my parents. wink.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied:

Does it make you wonder?? LOL

I don't look like my siblings either, I think that makes a big difference with me ... lol

stella6979 replied: A friend of mine is left handed as well as both of her sisters, but both their Parents are right handed.

Calimama replied:
LOL not really, I'm a younger, tanner version of my sister. So I figure I have to at least be related to her. emlaugh.gif

MoonMama replied: Lefty here! wavey.gif

MoonMama replied:
Ditto thumb.gif

Calimama replied:
I always knew you were super cool. cool.gif emlaugh.gif

TheOaf66 replied: wow I guess us lefty's are quite a minority in here

MoonMama replied:
rolling_smile.gif Ditto. emlaugh.gif

Calimama replied:
Wow, no kidding! blink.gif

holley79 replied:
See the comedian and my grandpa are right. You are a member of the biggest minority. emlaugh.gif

HuskerMom replied:
That's what they did to my FIL in school. He now can write with both hands.

Kaitlin'smom replied:
why? its easy actually, I am a lefty Kaitlin is a righty and when she needs help I stand next to her insead of behind her and guide her right with my left.

my dad is also a lefty, we are the only 2 in that part of the family.

reminds me of when I was going to start K they asked each child to pick up the pencil I picked it up with my left and one teacher yelled at me for picking it up wrong, well the PE teacher yelled at her and said I was fine, he was always my favorite teacher after that. He stood up for me.

I have a couple great lefty t-shirts.

momofone replied: Another Lefty here thumb.gif

lovemy2 replied: My Dad was a lefty - DH is a lefty for most stuff - writing and some sports but alot of other stuff he does right handed - he is I guess what do they call it ambidextrious - no clue if that spelling is right emlaugh.gif

cameragirl21 replied: I voted left handed but I write with my right hand because I was switched as a baby...there are superstitions in Eastern Europe about being left handed so my parents quickly took care of that. laugh.gif
The thing is, I'm still biologically left handed and use my left hand for other things but for the most part I only write with my right hand.
I don't think it's genetic, no one in my family is left handed, it just means you are right brained, whereas if you're right handed you're left brained.
If you're right brained, you're mostly creative and artistic and if you're left brained, you're more technically inclined and scientific.
I'm definitely very right brained, that doesn't change just because you are forced to use your right hand. wink.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: I am a lefty, as is Brooke. DH is right handed and so is Madison. My parents and sisters are all right handed, but I have a left handed cousin.

I played T Ball when I was younger and couldn't hit the ball - ever. It only took 3/4 of the season before my mom told them I was left handed and they turned me around. emlaugh.gif

my2monkeyboys replied: Will and I both are lefties. In school I finally convinced my mom that buying notebooks that had the spiral at the top made it much easier for me to write! biggrin.gif
The funny thing is that I do any "heavy" stuff with my right hand... anytime I grab a jug of milk, throw a ball, bat... all right handed. One of my double-first cousins is the same. (Unfortunately he probably uses his right hand to pick up his crack pipe!!! sad.gif laugh.gif )

I thought it was so cool when I realized Will was a lefty, too! He's so much like his dad at least I got some part of him! tongue.gif

coasterqueen replied: I am left-handed and so is DH. We both got major grief in school for being LH. It worries me a bit if Kylie and Megan will have that problem, since they both appear to be LH, but I also think times have changed a bit and it's not so taboo. I hope.

TheOaf66 replied:
I am that way too, some things I do right handed like golfing for instance and bow hunting, I had to learn that way becauase my dad wouldn't buy me left handed equipment when I was a kid

Anthony275 replied: im all left handed except writing (and the computer trackpoint)

Calimama replied:
I never realized it was taboo. huh.gif I had NEVER had one single problem in school with being left-handed.
