Mold and Mildew @ daycare - venting

JP&KJMOM wrote: Background:
About 3 weeks ago I was dropping off Karlee at daycare and as I rounded the corner to take her to the room I was hit in the face with the horrible smell of mildew. puke.gif Anyway I complained to the teacher she starts out with in the am and she said I needed to tell the director. So the next day I talked to the director and she said she would look into it. About a week later she said that they have done this and that but have found nothing but they are going to keep checking. OK well this morning I walked into the same thing but worse than ever. Actually it has been all week. So I have the number to the Regional Director and I am going to call her today and file another complaint.

Here is my question:
Do I use my name or do it anonomus?

I am afraid of how Karlee will be treated if they know it was me. She loves her teacher there and I do not want to move her I just want them to fix the problem. With Jason and I being in the construction industry I know how dangerous and even deadly this stuff can be if not removed but the director is acting like it is no big deal. growl.gif

mckayleesmom replied: Chances are that they will know it was you anyways unless other parents have complained.

1lilpeanut2love replied: JMHO-- If you are worried about the treatment of your daughter I say you should remain annoymous[sp]! You wouldn't want them to treat her differently because you repeated something so gross!! UGHH!! I am sorry you are dealing with this. I hope they can correct/fix the problem! GOOD LUCK with whatever you decide to do!! smile.gif

BAC'sMom replied:

Ditto! I would withhold my name if I were you.

kayla's mama replied:

ITA, I hope you get somewhere with the regional director!!!!!

C&K*s Mommie replied: iagree.gif Anonymous or not, if you are the only one to have noticed and said something then they will know it is you. But since you say that it has about knocked you over in the last week, and the smell has progressively become worse-- I would imagine other parents have said something, too. Whatever you do don't back down. Anonymous or not. Have you noticed any respiratory problems with your DD?? That would be another issue to bring to the forefront, that way they know that this mold problem is becoming worse.

amynicole21 replied: I'm glad you're calling - it's important that something is done. I don't think it matters whether you complain anonymously or not, but it wouldn't hurt to withhold your name just in case. Good luck!

mckayleesmom replied: You can also call the health department to investigate can't you?

MommyToAshley replied:
thumb.gif I agree. I am glad you are calling, you are doing the best thing for all the kids there.

If you are the only parent that was vocal about the situation, then they will probably know you had called. But, you need to call...this is a very serious health hazard and needs to be taken care of.

JP&KJMOM replied: Thanks guys. Well I have tried to call the Regional Director and she is out visiting centers all day today. I will be calling first thing on Monday though. thumb.gif

MommyToAshley replied: Maybe you can recommend that she buys some of those mold detectors. If the daycare providers are saying there is no mold, this will convince them otherwise. Although I can't believe they can't smell it.

luvmykids replied:
Keep us posted, and I hope the regional director is a lot more concerned than the others you've dealt with seem to be!
