Most Embarrasing Breastfeeding Moment!
Kirstenmumof3 wrote: When Claudia was born it took a long time for her to finally latch on (10 1/2 weeks)! I struggled everyday to get her latched on, then I would give her a bottle of breastmilk and then I would have to pump! One day I was so exhausted and I was trying so hard to get this little baby to latch on when my oldest DD came into the room and said "Mom your boob is bigger than her head! How do you expect her to latch onto that?"! My face went so red, but I had to laugh!
amynicole21 replied: LOL!! I haven't had too many that have been embarassing... Once I was nursing Sophia at her daycare in the back room. After we were done I came back out and was talking to all of her teachers for a while, and I notice them all glancing at me and there were a few whispers. Finally, one of them pulled me aside and said, "um, Mommy, you have some ummm" and pointed to my shirt. I had leaked all over my shirt - something I was very used to and didn't bother me a bit. But, I guess they were embarassed about it and wanted to let me know so that I wouldn't walk around like that! They were far more embarassed than me! Oh, and there was the time I was nursing her in the same room and my nose started to run badly... I couldn't get up to get a tissue while she was nursing so I blew my nose in my breast pad
Schnoogly replied: It's funny how other people are so much more embarassed--even doctors in the hospital would come by and see that I was BFing and get all red and say "um, you're nursing, I'll come back later." I'd say, it's OK, listen to his heart, whatever. He'll be more still if he's nursing!
And last night after we came home from the movies Iain was crying so I grabbed him and plopped down on the chair and started nursing, and my friend and her husband scooted out of there so fast! And left without coming in to say goodbye to me! They shouted at me from the other room...how weird. I really don't care, but I guess it is nice that they gave me privacy.
supermom replied: Yeah, it is pretty funny that even the doctors who are supposed to ENCOURAGE this are so embarassed.....
When Anders was smaller, we had to go and see our regular Family Practitoner's partner (our regular doc was on vacation and Anders was a bit stuffy, so we went to see the other doc in his building, who was covering for him). We waited for a bit in the exam room, and Anders was starting to get a little fussy, so I whipped it out and was feeding him when the doc walked in. He turned seven shades of red, then offered to leave; naturally I told him he didn't need to. Of course, he *claimed* to encourage BF, but how could he if he was that embarassed????? Sure glad our regular doc isn't like that at all....I don't think that anything will phase our regular doc - hehehehe
I am not very easily embarassed, so I can't say that I've ever had a truly embarassing moment. I've had a couple that have made me mad at other people's comments, but never made me embarassed.....
~CrazieMama~ replied: lol I wish I could say that I have that problem. But I have the opposite problem. My boobies are sooooo small that there wasn't enough for her to latch on to. lol Needless to say, I bottle fed.
catou_98 replied: Oh, how I wish I had that problem!
Kaitlin'smom replied: okay that just made me have a mommy/blonde moment. I never thought about women who have small bobbies and not being able to BF, I guess that could be a problem.
amynicole21 replied: Actually, any sized woman can breastfeed - size does not matter in this case. It's actually probably easier for a small chested mommy to bfeed - us bigger gals have to wield these suckers around and make sure nobody gets hurt!!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: My SIL's sister has man boobs. Meaning...she pretty much only has the nipple stick out... heh heh She had SOO much milk, she saoked through severla pads a day!! AND, her daughter latched on to those tiny nipples. I saw her do it!!
mckayleesmom replied: I switched mckaylee to formula recently cause my milk dried up ... and I have boobs you would think could feed a small village,,,,but my sister is really flat and she stopped nursing her daughter at 4 months,,but before she did, she had so much milk she froze a months worth of feedings for her.......not fair.
supermom replied: ROFLMBO!!! That is just TOO funny (from someone who has always been amply endowed)
And I second that - or third or whatever - size doesn't matter - even small chested women can breastfeed - the size of your breasts has no direct corelation to how much milk you produce or whether or not your child can suckle...
MommyToAshley replied: I don't have any funny or embarrasing BF stories, I pretty much BF her at home.
But, I can relate to being on the large side, at least while BF.
MomToJade&Jordan replied: That would be the day I decided to bf Jade outside in the Hawaiian trade winds. I was sitting in the courtyard with the nursing cover over the baby. Well this big gust of wind came and blew that thing right up. Needless to say I didn't try that again.
MomToMany replied: LOL, I know what you mean (size 44H here)!! I've never really had an embarrassing moment, so I've got nothing to share . I mainly feed her at home, and if we DO go out, I'll feed her in the van wherever we stop. DH is SO paranoid that someone might see, he parks WAAAY at the very end, as far away from any other cars as possible. Me, I try to get as close to the doors as possible !
Schnoogly replied: Actually there is a condition called hypoplastic breasts where the breast tissue is underdeveloped--they are also called "tubular breasts"--and women with this condition do have trouble nursing. They can usually do it with a lot of help, but some can't EBF. I came across this when I was researching my own supply problems.
This, however, is not my problem! My boobs were definitely bigger than his head, and nipples are huge too! (42F here)
Mckaylee's mom, I'm sorry BF didn't work out for you! You did stick it out for a while though!
Steph
Kaitlin'smom replied: humm okay well size in this case does not matter, that was an excues I was given by a smal cested woman who did not breast feed or even try with any 3 of her kids. How sad, the only reason I say this is she might have gotten bigger by doing so, and now she would like to have a boob job!
paradisemommy replied: ok for real - size doesn't matter because i have always been an AA..got all the little jabs growing up (mosquito bites/flat as a board/blah blah blah)..well, after being pregnant and bf - my boobs are just a little bit bigger now - i think i graduated to a B!!! hip hip hooray..now that i have them i look at myself in the mirror and think - ok if i had to pick the perfect size, i'd have to say these are them.. i'm gonna be totally sad to see them go when i stop
but don't get me wrong - i'm not complaining about being small - i love my little boobies. i love being able to go braless anytime i want, not having back aches, etc. but every now and then i like to dream!!! course all guys LOVE them..
mckayleesmom replied: I am kind of upset about not being able to breastfeed her, I tried everything,,vitamins,,,even drinking a beer like my doctor suggested,,,didn't work,,,,,so I stopped,,,but then the other day I noticed I was leaking all the sudden so I tried to breastfeed her,,,she will for a couple minutes,,but then gets angry and hits me...but Im thinking about starting to pump so I can at least freeze it and when she is able to eat cerial in a month or so I can mix it with breastmilk.....is that a bad idea?
supermom replied: I certainly don't see what would be bad about it - I think it's great - and if you can pump enough maybe you could even give her a BM bottle or so.....
She probably got frustrated because after the inital letdown, she had to really work to get anything else - don't take it personally, for sure, but maybe also if you pump some, you'll help bring back your supply.
Have you tried the goat's rue that Schoongly tried? Just wondering, she had said she had tried everything and until this, there hadn't been anything else she tried that had worked.
mckayleesmom replied: Well I had stopped because I couldn't get anything at all, so I just gave her formula,,,then all the sudden it decided to come back,,,maybe I just have wierd boobs. Maybe they know they are going under the knife..lol.....there getting even while they can.
amynicole21 replied: I would definitly give it a shot!! And I agree, she was probably a little frustrated about the let down. Just keep at it! CJ'SMOM2002 could probably give you lots of info - she didn't start to bfeed until a while after Claudia was born, if I remember correctly... I think the best thing you could do is to go see a lactation consultant - they would be able to guide you on the subject. Good Luck!!
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Absolutely! I saw a Lactation Consultant weekly for 11 weeks before Claudia would latch on! I would try to latch her on and then I would give her a bottle of EBM and then I had to pump to keep my supply up! It was a very stressful time, but when she finally latched on I was so rewarding! I still get all teary when I think about it! Also Claudia and I were seperated for 2 weeks while I was in the hospital! No one thought she would breastfeed again and all the nurses were preparing me for this! But when we came home she latched on as if we had never been apart! I would definately go and see an LC!
