Mother vent!

My mother just called to tell me my aunt just had her baby tonight and they named her Sara Elizabeth. I was was like "cool! pretty name" (even though she gave her the same name as Kylie's middle name, not a real biggie though). Anyways so then my mom says "you know I've always liked the name Carrie Ann" and then there was silence. I said "that's nice, was that the other name Susie was thinking of naming the baby?". She said "no, I've just always liked that name."

I know why she's saying that. Over the weekend my parents came over to see Kylie and we mentioned to them we were going to name the baby Megan Nicole. My dad just kinda nodded his head and didn't say anything. My mother immediately said "so she's going to be called Meggie" with a very sarcastic look on her face. I said "no her name is Megan and that is what she will be called". So my mom says "do you realize how that name sounds when you yell down the hall for her?" I said "yes, it's a beautiful name, I've already hollered it in practice many times to see if I like it ". She replied "well it's going to be very hard to say Kylie and Megan when talking to people, the names just don't go together.".

I was so peeved at her. I just can't believe she'd say such things and such STUPID things to me. Grrrrr.

A&A'smommy replied: OMG how riddiculous!!!!! I think they are BOTH beautiful name and I said them to myself a couple times and I think they sound great together!! Some moms just don't know when to stop (dad tends to say stuff too though) (((HUGS)))) just ignore her because she is COMPLETLY wrong!

We knew going in my in laws would hate Olivia Kathryn so we were prepared for their reaction (which was "Well, Kathryn is nice" ) but I know it still hurt my husband's feeling. On a positive note, now that she's here they are perfectly fine with the name!

I think mother's think it's their right to say whatever is on their mind, regardless of if it might offend you. Every time I talk to my mom right now I get pretty agitated! Her opinion of everything I ask about is negative.

Btw, I really love the names you've picked out.

If it's any consulation, when Vincent and Kelton were born, people told me "but their names don't match... They don't go together. They don't flow" But 5 years later, I can't think of Vincent without Kelton.... and screaming their names when they won't come inside - it works, no matter what name you pick out.

and btw, isn't Carrie Ann that psycho girl in a horror movie ("Carrie") who was covered in pig blood or something and killed people?! and i think that is the name used for the little girl in poltergeist too! you know... the one that died!

I know hwat your going threw.... my mom did the same thing to me.... She said, "Mason means stone worker"..... she just didn't get it... I wasn't caring what the name ment to everyone else... to me it ment my son..... and my grandma did something like it too... told me, " what about Victor Ray"...... I have an uncle (her son) named Victor, and her other son Ray... so I don't know what she was thinking.....

if it makes you feel any better, I had someone tell me that they hated the name Jason when I was preg...... who says that?!?!?!?!

guess you could be thankfuly you dont have people who steel your names I have learned I will NEVER share name choices.

Yep, mine too. I'm sorry about this Karen. i know what its like to have a mother like this! how dare she say that about Megan's name? She's had her chance to name children - her own - goodness me! I love the name Megan, and it goes fine with Kylie. Honestly. It make me so annoyed. we had this with my mum when Cassie was born, except she wanted a more Italian name, and she point blank refused to cal her Cassie. She said that Cassie was a dog's name! xx
