My Aunts dog tried to attack Teagan today!

TeagansMom609 wrote: Today we went to my cousins graduation party. Well my Aunt's dog which is this little miniature collie/mut thing flipped out and went after Teagan barking, growling and trying to bite her. Just because Teagan was walking by the stupid thing. I pushed the dog away and scooped Teagan up. Teagan was screaming. She was soooo scared. My heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest. Poor baby!! Then later after they put the dog on a chain I was walking by it with Teagan in her stroller and the dog started showing its teeth and growling at her! She is going to be petrified of dogs now. dry.gif

Later it was funny, Shawn made a joke out of it and said to my Aunt, "You know Aunt Cher, we would hate to have to sue family". And I said, "Yea my Dad is a lawyer you know". wink.gif

redchief replied: That's traumatic for poor Teagan! I'm sorry that happened. Had the dog ever exhibited aggressive tendancies before?

Be careful around that pooch!

MM'sMama replied: OMG ohmy.gif poor Teagan I am so sorry that happened but I'm really glad she didn't get bit but how horrible bawling.gif. grouphug.gif

Josie83 replied: O my gosh, poor Teagen! I'm so pleased that it didn't get to her grouphug.gif xx

kit_kats_mom replied: I got bit by a mini pinscher when I was around 2. It happened at a laundromat. I was scared of dogs for the longest time...still don't really like them enough to ever own one. tongue.gif I'm sure Teagan was freaked. Poor girl.

You never know about animals. A family I used to babysit for had a cocker spaniel. Sweetest dog on the planet...never agressive. One day she just attacked the son, who was 9. Wierd. sad.gif

mizraim replied: sad.gif sad.gif bawling.gif poor teagan..

TeagansMom609 replied:
No, that was the weird thing. Its a sweet dog. I think it was freaked out about her being small. Shes used to adults. I swear I will never buy a dog, you just never know when their going to snap.

Jamielou replied: Awww poor baby i hope this dont make her afraid of dogs for the rest of her life... happy.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied: I doubt I'd be visiting Aunt Cher again in her home unless she agrees to keep her pooch outside during the time you are there. The great thing about Tegan being young is it will likely be forgotten by her, especially if she knows/interacts with other, more appropriate dogs!

ediep replied: awww, poor thing!!! I am not a dog lover and it is definately because they are so unpredictable! Be careful around that dog!

gr33n3y3z replied: maybe it was bc there were so many ppl. there and the dog felt threatend

A&A'smommy replied: Oh I hate that! A couple of weeks ago my brother was dog sitting for my aunts dog she was chow and black lab mix and you know chows are mean! Anyway Alyssa stepped on the dog by accident and she (the dog) bit her thank goodness Alyssa moved or would have broke skin I was a nervous wreck after that!! Poor Teagan maybe she won't be affraid, I hope not anyway!! sad.gif

k_j_mommy replied: Hello, I am new here but just wanted to respond. When my son who is 5 now was about 18 months old the in laws little puppy jumped up on him and knocked him down. Up until about the last year every time he saw a dog (big or little) he would scream and cry. Finally some friends of ours got a new puppy and let him play with it when it was too little to do any harm and he is so much better. He still runs from real big dogs but not like he use to. If she does get scared be sure to try to make her comfortable around dogs because you don't want her to be scared forever. Good luck.

JessC replied: OMG! ohmy.gif Some dogs just freak out like that! Its like weird, I dont know some dogs dont like little kids, which is just weird. wacko.gif

DVFlyer replied: I'm sorry this dog scared her. I'm glad it wasn't a big dog, though, as there seems to be a (not here, btw) stereotype of "big scary attack dogs". This just shows you that it can happen with any dog, large or small.

Please take her to a pet store or other place where she can see that not ALL dogs are bad.

There is quite a bit of talk in the dog world about this type of thing. Bad breeding makes bad dogs. Of course, there is always the exception, but the typical backyard breeder (BYB) or puppy mill does not care about the temperament of the dog, they only care about the money to be made by selling them. And even some seemingly respectable breeders will bend to the mighty $$.

A dog can see a small child in a couple of ways. Either as prey or a littermate (among others, I'm sure.). They do not know and need to be taught that a child is neither of these and is above them in the "pack". It's the owner's responsibility to train the dog to understand this.

Josie83 replied: Very informative DV!! Or should I say Micahel Scott. How did you learn all this stuff? I never thought of that thing about dogs seeing kids in two ways before! xx

DerbyCityGrl replied: your poor baby how scarey

DVFlyer replied: Remember, Josie, only my mom calls me Michael Scott.... and only when I'm in trouble. wink.gif

Oh, I'm full of useless information. Just ask. I've got an answer for EVERYTHING! biggrin.gif rolling_smile.gif

moped replied: That truly is one of my biggest fears - dogs attacking children!

I am sorry that dog scared her!
