My Birth Story - Isaia Michael 1.2.2008

Mommy2Isabella wrote: OK!! Here it is guys ...

Monday December 31st, I went to Manning to be approved to have the home birth. On the way to the appointment I started having contractions about 7 minutes apart lasting a minute. I called the midwife and she said we were headed to the right place just let them know I was contracting and they would probably want to check me. They did, I was 1cm and SOFT! So they approved me for a home birth and we were on our way home. The contractions started coming about 4-5 minutes apart on the way home and it was an hour and half drive!

We arrive home and our good friends meet us here and have lots of goodies that we hadn't yet gotten because we weren't expecting this just yet!! Either way, our midwife showed up about 30 minutes later and assed me, took blood pressure and all that jazz. Listened to the baby through a couple contractions and told Sal and our friend Mike they may want to start filling up the birth pool. So everyone starts getting stuff ready and our midwife ran home to change clothes and grab a few things.

I labored through the night, the midwife checked me at around midnight and I was 4cm and my cervix was "like butter" . My labored kind of slowed down for awhile and I got a few hours sleep only to wake up to very INTENSE contractions. They were about 2 minutes apart and this is around 6 am. Labored through the first part of the day which it is now Jan. 1st. she checked me around 12pm and I was STILL only 4cm dialated sad.gif and the contractions had started to die down again. My midwife and her apprentice, leave for awhile to let us kind of have some "alone" time. So thats what we did, we showered and kind of spent some time together and the contractions picked back up. The midwife came back. She checked me and tried to figure out the babys position, and found that he was coming down sideways, his head was sideways and he had his arm on the side of his face which was the EXACT reason my labor had been so up and down for the past day and a half, so we did some things to help him move and that worked for a few hours, around 9pm my labor had slowed again. We tired to get him to change positions again did all kinds of fun things, switching positions and everything else, it didn't work, it is now about 4:30am on Jan. 3rd and the midwife checked me again and I was 6cm same as I was around 9 the previous night. She then told me it is no longer safe to have him at home, my body was tired and the dangers of bleeding were a serious risk for us at this point because of how worn out my body was.

So off to the hospital we went, I was admitted of course they gave me nubain< SP) so I could rest and pitocin to get the contractions regulated, around 12:30 I woke up and told them the baby was coming out, they checked me I was 8cm so they started to get things ready, about 3:15 I told sal ITS COMING OUT... lol they got the dr. and my water was bulging out and they could see the baby right behind it ... My water broke at 3:19, and he was born at 3:21.

The Midwife that was on call at the hospital was AMAZING. They did everything they could to make our experience what we wanted it to be, Sal caught the baby and they delayed cord cutting, and the eye ointment ... it was an AMAZING experience. It wasn't the home birth that we wanted but it really was the next best thing. Our son was with us for about 30 minutes when MY midwife noticed he was grunting and having trouble breathing, they then took him to the nursery, and of course MOMENTS after being in the nursery they transferred him to the NICU.

He comes home today around 12 ... and we couldn't be more excited!!
