My latest appointment

my2monkeyboys wrote: I passed my glucose test with flying colors, and I've officially gained one pound over my pre-pregnancy weight. I had originally lost about 16 from morning sickness, but I've since gained it back (most within the first month of feeling better tongue.gif ) and am now up 1 pound. The doc was very happy about that. I did have to get the rhogam shot, but that wasn't a big deal.
I also registered at the hospital ---- and guess what! It's going to cost us $9,000 for a regular, 2-day-stay delivery and $18,000 for a c-section/4-day-stay delivery!!!!
I am really hoping I can get the dr. to induce me, and then find a reason for the c-section so the insurance will pick up most of it. Otherwise, if we schedule a c-section for no real reason we'll have to pay the whole tab.
The dr. recommends the c-section due to the odds of uterine rupture, but I'm starting to think it wouldn't be too bad to at least try a VBAC, if for the cost if nothing else.
Anyway, the hospital said we can work out some sort of payment plan either way, I just hope they don't expect $500 a month for the next 3 years!
Overall the day went good though. baby.gif

Swood75 replied: Glad to hear that your appt went good!! I have gained 5 lbs over 4 1/2 months...Everybody just looks at me like I am crazy when I tell them that...LOL...Hopefully the ins will pick up the tab on that..That is CRAZY!! I sent in my pre-registration form today as it has to be done by 20 weeks and I am already 18 and 2 days so figured I might as well do it.. tongue.gif I hope I get lucky and pass the glucose test the 1st time this time..I have had a problem with my blood sugar dropping lately though(but it is just if I go a while between eating) blush.gif

youngmomofone replied: I cant believe your insurance wont pay for delivery??

Glad that overall your appt went well smile.gif

A&A'smommy replied: yay I'm glad everything is going well.. good luck with everything that happens insurance and delievery wise!! hug.gif

my2monkeyboys replied: Well, we don't have maternity insurance. That's why it'll only cover the hospital room and "complications" of pregnancy. We're self-employed so the only maternity coverage available to us is that kind where you pay $100+ a month, have a year waiting period and then it only pays out $2-4000 total, depending on your monthly premium. Just not worth anything! rolleyes.gif
I'm sure we'll figure it all out - I just can't believe how much it costs!!!
Thanks for the well wishes!

gr33n3y3z replied: I'm glad everything went well for your appointment smile.gif

mammag replied: Glad it went well! That sucks about the financial part. Why is the dr. worried about uterine rupture? How risky is that?

my2monkeyboys replied: I honestly don't know - he just said he'd recommend another c-section bc the risk is higher since I've never had a vaginal birth before.

Calimama replied: Glad everything is going well. hug.gif

cameragirl21 replied: the rhogam shot? do you have rh negative blood? or is your baby's blood type simply different from yours?
if you have negative blood and the baby's is positive, this can't be an easy pg for you and you sure have all my sympathy.
glad all is well, hopefully the bills won't be too ridiculous. I can't believe somebody would have to pay upwards of 9k to have a baby, sorry but that is just ridiculous. when did medicine become a business?! wacko.gif

Crystalina replied: We're dealing with the same thing being self employed. We get a discount for being private pay!!!

Although it's still a lot of money and we don't really notice a discount. rolleyes.gif dry.gif

my2monkeyboys replied: I have negative blood type - not sure what the baby's is until he's born I think. If it's different from mine I'll need another shot, if I'm not mistaken.
We did get a discount from our dr. - 15%. I'm not sure what the hospital will do, yet.
As for medicine being a business ---- isn't everything!?!? wacko.gif tongue.gif
