My little guy is very little... - Not gaining weight.

PoppaDom wrote: I am concerned about my son...he is 22 months old and weighs a little over 20 pounds. He is very active, extremely smart, happy, and strong. He only gained 2 ounces in the last 2 months. My wife and I are taking him to a gastro specialist on Monday and I am worried.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: He may just be small. My son Logan is 23 months old and weighs about 21 pounds. His 11 month old cousin weighs nearly that much now. Some kids are just meant to be small. And their growth rate slows down as toddlers. If he's eating and has energy, he may just be a small fry. Try not to worry too much, I hope you get the answers from the GI specialist.

redchief replied: iagree.gif I would continue with your appointment though, just to make sure all is well. Welcome aboard. smile.gif

my2monkeyboys replied: Just to let you know, my son Will is about to be 4 in about 6 weeks. He weighs 28 pounds. that's right... 28 pounds. When he was a baby the dr. ran all sorts of blood work on him and found that nothing is wrong. He's always developed on/before schedule and is an very active outgoing child.
It sounds like yours is the same. I'm sure they'll find that he's perfectly healthy, but I understand that you want to take him in just in case. For the peace of mind it will give you alone makes it worth it. Hope everything is just great and welcome to the boards!

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Yep, he's probably just small. wink.gif My 2.5 y.o. son weighs 24 pounds. He has gained 2 pounds in a year. ohmy.gif

hawkshoe replied: That is small. What does your pediatrician say? Both of my children are on the small side too, but they weighed 20 at 12 months. My oldest is 12 and weighs only 59 pounds and my youngest is 4 and weighs in at 36. Since they have been staying on their growth curves my Dr. says they are doing just fine.

DansMom replied: Daniel's the same way. I've stopped worrying, since he's active and healthy and does grow in height while weight stays steady for long, long periods (he's only 30 pounds at almost 4). Always worth discussing with a ped., but I'm hoping they'll tell you he's just a little guy.

CantWait replied: My 3.2 year old is 29 lbs, hasn't gained weight in probably 6 months, but is healthy otherwise.

Try not to worry about it.

C&K*s Mommie replied: Our 29mo old is about the same as the other members children. She is about 23/24lbs. She is active, and otherwise healthy.

mommyofpremitwins replied: This is a topic that I seem to know way too much about. My three year old twins are 20 and 23 lbs. Weight has always been an issue for us (I wish it was an issue for me) They were born at 25 weeks and weighed 1lb 6oz. The last appointment we had with the dietician was positive though. The doctors were talking a feeding tube for my son but they said that because his weight and height are proportioned then they are not worried. The DR. said that if he was tall and thin then he would worry but because his height and weight are on the same growth line then he is ok.

CantWait replied:
I think it's important to mention also, that because your boys were born so premie, that they're going to be on the lower end of the chart for quite some time.

PrairieMom replied: I thought The Boy was small, he is 3 1/2 and 31 pounds. After listening you you guys we sound pretty normal!

CantWait replied:
You're right Tara. I think doctors just up those charts by a few pounds or something. Anthony finally made it to 33 lbs at 3.2 years.
