My living room has color!
coasterqueen wrote: DH finished painting my living room Monday night. I LOVE the color. I think it's called Kilim beige (?). Dh describes it as the color of coffee w/cream and sugar in it. It isn't that much of a change from the eggshell color in the rest of the house, so when you see it it doesn't give you that WOW factor and really stand out. I didn't really want that, though, but it looks sorta classy to me. A soft, different shade than the rest of the house. I did buy a WOW shade, one shade darker than what I have now, but after Dh painted a small area of it I didn't like it so we went one shade lighter.
I think we are going to repaint Kylie's room next when we've recovered from spending so many nights doing the living room. Kylie decided she wanted a different border and since we hate the color of the room now, Dh decided we'd paint it a lighter shade pink and she'll get her new border too.
I am tossing up the idea of painting my kitchen a sage color. When Dh redesigned the office of his company the used a sage color he fell in love with. I can't believe he suggested to do it because he swears he hates color.
Actually I think my next task will be to tear off all the wallpaper in the girls/guest bathroom. I never liked it even when I put it up the 1st time, so I'm going to rip it off and just paint the bathroom. I think this project will take me a LONG time.
luvmykids replied: That color sounds like what I'm thinking of doing in my living room I'm holding off because it's so open to the dining room and kitchen and I haven't figured out how to have something different in the kitchen without it being like I drew a line down the middle of a wall
I actually want to paint just about every room in the house, the only colors I've decided on are a butter yellow in my office and a sage in the poker room.
CantWait replied: Sounds great. I'm still trying to decide what to do with my living room. I think I'm closer to making a decision though. Gotta get a pic for us.
sparkys2boys replied: sounds very nice!! I am a color person to the max.. it has to be deep and rich for me!!
gr33n3y3z replied: That sounds nice Karen show us some pics when you can
coasterqueen replied: Yeah, I guess I need to take some pics. I'll try to remember to do that tonight. I really wanted to change the whole room going with the more earthy tones and black n' white pics in black frames, etc, but I decided not to waste my money on doing that and just put everything back up on the walls for now. I did get rid of the valiances above my windows and the cloth vertical blinds we had on the patio door. I will replace that stuff some day when I figure out what I want. We also rearranged the living room, which is VERY hard to do with all the openings to the room. We aren't for sure yet whether we like it or not this way. If we decide to leave it this way we are going to buy a corner desk for the corner that is empty right now and put a computer on it for Kylie to use. I'm just not sure I want a computer in there.
coasterqueen replied: That's the problem I'm having with my foyer. I wanted to paint it the same color as the living room as the foyer really needs color to kind of POP it out a bit, but there's this wall that is in the foyer but also leads down the hall and there's really no way to paint it unless I paint the hallway too and I don't want to do that.
booey2 replied: Sounds great and we do really need pics to make an accurate decision. Go for the sage in the kitchen, kinda sounds like the colour we put in our bedroom. Now we are going to paint Thomas's room soon because we promised him he could choose the colour once he stopped wetting through the night and wearing pullups. Well we have been pullup free since Christmas or about a week before and have only had 2 accidents. Hubby needs to pickup the latest swatches from our paint store soon(sorry to hijack here).
Can't wait to see your new colourfull home.
coasterqueen replied: Ok, here are what I have of pics. It's so hard to tell the difference with them, as we didn't go too crazy with the color.
Excuse the mess in these 1st two, this is when Dh was painting, but you get the best idea of the change in color from them:

The rest of these are of them now. The one corner with the tall lamp is my "empty" corner now that we've rearranged the room and is where I guess we'll put the desk for Kylie at.

PrairieMom replied: Wow! looks nice! you can deffinately tell you are a neat freak! Where do your kids live? (J/K)
CantWait replied: Omgosh Karen. You're freaking couch is almost like mine, except I have a sectional, and it's a wee bit lighter. You've given me an idea I think maybe as to what my house will look like, I just need a matching colour so that I don't have to do the living room, hallway, and foyer, and hallway leading downstairs the same colour.
gr33n3y3z replied: Wow that looks great The color is perfect
coasterqueen replied: What kids? j/k. No, after dinner, baths, kids bedtimes, etc we then pick up the house before ever sitting down and relaxing. Or at least we try to every night, so that is why it looks neat. Course I also have a rule now that no toys stay in the living room on a permanent basis. This just became a rule probably in the last year. That is what the playroom is for.
booey2 replied: Looks great Karen, we too have a no toy rule in our living room, it got to the point at one time where we weren't sure if we had a living room or not. Awesome job on colour choice.
coasterqueen replied: Glad I could help. Unfortunately the pictures do not do the new color justice, but o h well. Yeah our living room set-up before the paint job was the one couch was where it was at but the other one going longways toward the tv, it was against the wall that has nothing on it now. Then each couch had it's own coffee table. But you couldn't see the tv very well from that one couch so we brought it out in the middle. It really closed the room in, instead of making it feel wide open like it was before, but oh well. *We* personally know the room is huge, so we don't care if it does or not to others.
I can't wait to see pics when you are done
BTW, got any ideas of color of curtains for my room? Before I had burgundy and white drapes that just hung more like valances. So they only went 1/4 way down the window. This time around I want floor length drapes, but I just can't decide on a color. Like I said before I was going to change the whole room to earth tones (taupes, and such) with black as an accent (like accent furniture, accessories, frames) but decided against spending the money. One day I want to replace those couches. They are comfortable, but the don't hold their shape well. We've had them seven years and they look a bit saggy in the places we always sit. I think I want to go with leather next time.
CantWait replied: I would put a chocolate brown or darker tan curtain to make it pop, but like I said, I suck at this sort of thing.
