Naptime

holley79 wrote: Ok I have been pondering this all day today. Annika usually falls asleep in her bouncer, swing or while she is nursing. Should I be making naptime in her crib? Could this maybe the reason it's so hard to get her to go nighters in her crib at night?

Any suggestions? help.gif help.gif help.gif

jacobsmama replied: wavey.gif Annika is so cute btw. Anyhow when Jacob was a baby he would do this too and I never really thought it was a big deal. I also had some trouble getting him to go to bed in his crib but I think this is normal for that age.

Now it has actually turned out really well for me because jacob is still in his crib. He only goes in it at night and that is it. So he has never tried to get out or fall out or throw fit in it or anything.

So I think it worked out better for me that he napped other places too. Just my opinion though. wub.gif HTH

kayla's mama replied: Kayla didn't start napping her crib until I started working in Sept. She had to at the sitters. There is nothing wrong with her napping in the bouncy or swing. I used to let Kayla, then so grew out of them sleep.gif

Thank you. Jacob is a doll also. hug.gif

I guess I will play with it. Annika is sleeping in her crib right now. It probably won't last long but at least I'm getting a break.

I'm just wondering if maybe she is sleeping better in bouncer because of vibrations and in the swing because of motion. Maybe I can look into one of the crib vibrators. I saw one at Target, maybe that will help her.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: It might be worth a shot. I never let Logan nap for too long in a bouncy or swing, I moved him to his crib. It just worked for me. Crib is for sleeping, other stuff for play. Just how I did things, and the crib vibrator might be a great idea.

kimberley replied: the motion helps wonders and when you haven't slept in forever, swings, bouncers and driving in a car seat are a life saver. none of my babies liked the crib and would only sleep in it for very short periods but would nap in their infant car seat for hours. never tried a crib vibrator tho.. that could work too. good luck and let us know how it goes.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I always tried to get Wil down for a nap in his crib or bassinette, because I agree with Kelly, I wanted him to know what was for sleep and what was for play, but I would never wake and move him if he fell asleep in the bouncy seat. Sometimes that nap in the bouncy seat was just what I needed to get a break. wink.gif She's still so young...you have plenty of time to have her get used to a crib. My sister would actually put the bouncy seat in the crib sometimes for naps because that was the only way her second child would sleep.

Have you tried soft music with her in the crib? We still turn on a lullaby CD for Wil. Also, his room has to be really dark.

My3LilMonkeys replied:
ITA!

luvmykids replied:
Ditto.

ediep replied:
yup, us too.....I always moved him to his crib because I didn't want himt o rely on the movemnt or the vibrations to fall asleep because I knew that eventually he'd outgrow the swing and the bouncy seat and thenwe'd be in trouble

jason likes soft music too

shelbysmom replied: Shelby would take naps in her swing, swaddled and all. Then, at about 3 months she kind of told me that she wanted to nap in her crib. She was fussing in her swing so, I laid her down in her crib, and she was out! I believe you should do what you feel is right for your baby.

holley79 replied: Thanks everyone. hug.gif I guess we will play it by ear. I guess I'm trying to do too many things before I go back to work. I bought a sound machine but it doesn't really seem to do much for her. One of the sounds is birds chirping and that just sets off the Lab. rolling_smile.gif

I just laid her down and I am hoping that is it for the night. I am so exhausted. Instead of napping when she did today I cleaned all the tubs. wacko.gif

myangels_parkerntaylor replied: I am having the same problem with my daughter. The only place she will sleep during the day is in the swing. I have tried putting her to sleep myself and then putting her in the pack n play bassinett thingy and that doesnt work cus she is up 10 minutes later or right when i put her down. She is 3 months old. She sleeps fine at night in her cradle it is just during the day. She usually sleeps for good amounts of time in the swing during the day but once 5 or 6 rolls around the longest she will sleep in the swing is like 30 minutes. I dont know how to get her to sleep longer.

CAMSMOM1 replied: Cameron only slept in his swing, until he was 4 months old. blush.gif Like Kimberly said, they love the motion of the swing, and it helps them to feel snug and secure. I asked our Ped. doctor if this was ok, and she said, "Do what works. And soon he'll grow out of it, and then you can try the crib. But there is no harm letting him sleep in his swing. Most newborns sleep best when they are in a swing or bouncer." So I felt better knowing I wasn't a bad Mom letting him sleep in the swing, he slept in it for his naps & at night.
Then around 4 months he outgrew it, so I was kinda worried how he would do in his crib. And actually, he did fine! I was worring for nothing. rolleyes.gif
If you are concerned, then just let her sleep in the swing for naps only. Usually they do better in their crib at night.
But I don't see a problem with it. I don't know what I would do w/out a swing those first few months. happy.gif

EDT: One thing I realized, was Cam had a problem falling asleep during the day because his room was to bright, there was to much light. So we put foil on the window, to make it darker. And that really worked! I know it sounds crazy, but a lot of babies need it to be dark to fall asleep. Just thought I'd throw my 2cents.gif
