Near freak accident with DH's dog. - Dog injury mentioned.
Crystalina wrote: Background Info DH has this beagle that escaped from the dog pound. We felt bad so we picked it up on the side of the road, took it home and found a home for it. I called to check up on the dog and the woman said she gave it away. I had a "feeling" so we called the pound and she had taken it there. So DH felt bad for it (because he likes beagles, me not so much ), he goes and pays the fee and adopts the darn thing. We name it Lucky. Right away DH takes the dog to a rabbit hunting place. They had a 6 ft fence and we were to leave him for a week. The darn dog was at the car before we were. So he's a fence jumper (more then likely how he escaped from the pound) so we just let him run on the farm. If we ever tie him up he's on a stake and not in a kennel.
Fast forward 2 years to last night Evan and Izabella go outside to play and they start screaming that Lucky is hanging from the kennel! DH and I run outside not knowing what they could be meaning because Lucky was never in the kennel. Sure enough we go out there and DH darts to the dog and un-clips the chain. He was coughing so much and so hard he sounded like he was barking. His toes were all bloody from trying to free himself. We then get the story from Evan. He took Lucky into the empty kennel and when Lucky kept jumping out he decided to tie him in there. We have no idea how long had been there but I'm sure it wasn't too long or he would have never survived. Evan did not realize what would happen if Lucky jumped the fence with a leash on and he felt very bad but I told DH we can't blame him no matter what the outcome would have been. His 4-yr old brain can not comprehend cause and effect in all circumstances. Now he knows.
Lucky took about 20 minutes to calm down. We put peroxide on this toes and he's really living up to his name.
And Evan is never touch a leash or tie a dog up again.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: yikes, poor doggy, glad to hear he is okay though. Im sure Evan felt so bad, I know how 4yr old boys are.
mckayleesmom replied: Oh my...that was scary. Poor Evan and Lucky.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Awwww poor Lucky! I'm glad to hear that he is doing okay!
Teesa®© replied: I'm not quite sure whom I feel more sorry for: poor Lucky or poor Evan
to both of them
Calimama replied: Poor lucky and Evan!!
luvmykids replied: Oh gosh, that could have been terrible, lots of 's to everyone
Bogie (our bigger lab) jumped a fence and got caught on his collar....it was totally lucky how we even realized it before we were both leaving for the day
cameragirl21 replied: OMG, Crystal. Lucky sure is living up to his name, he has more lives than a cat.
HuskerMom replied: Glad he's ok!
MoonMama replied: Poor Evan and Lucky. I'm so glad Lucky is ok.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Omg! Poor thing. Poor Evan, too. I'm glad Lucky is ok!
Crystalina replied: They both faired well and both are snoring as I type. DH is the one who almost had a stroke. He found a dog dead like that when he was a child and I think it shook him up.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: I'm glad Lucky is o.k. for Evan
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I am sorry Crystal. I had a border collie that did that when I was growing up and Koscuisko just tried to the other day. Luckily they wee both found before they hurt themselves and I hate to tell you but it doesn't break them from jumping the fence with a leash on I hope Lucky heals fast! to Evan
A&A'smommy replied: oh poor puppy, I'm so glad he is ok!!! WOW I would have FREAKED
