Neat idea for E. basket

MommyToAshley wrote: I was in Walmart and they had these little planter kits for kids. It came with a rake, the soil, the seeds, and a pretty decent size pot (that would still fit in the window). It was called "My First ____ Garden" I got Ashley the sunflower one and the tomato one. She's been saying she wants to grow her own garden so she can get it started a little early in the house and then we'll move it outside in the spring.

Sam & Abby's Mom replied: That is a cute idea!

mckayleesmom replied: That is a cute idea....I will have to check and see if they have something like that around here.

Our Lil' Family replied: I saw something similar at Hobby Lobby. A pack of 4 small Veggie Tales planters...flowers I think though, not any veggies.

HuskerMom replied: How cute!

punkeemunkee'smom replied: I bet she will LOVE that. Let me know because I had to come up with an idea for the whole service unit (200 + Girl Scouts) for our March activity. I am planning a Mom and Me Garden Gala. Each girl and her mom will plant a window box of flowers (It is a 15 X 4 x 8 inch box so we will use a 6 pack of plants in each) and make a Plaster of Paris garden stone. I am getting excited and nervous that everyone enjoys it. I am glad to hear that Tay is not the only kid who likes to 'garden' laugh.gif

Calimama replied: So much cooler than the typical candy and barbie ones!! thumb.gif

Nina J replied: That is a good idea. I wonder if they have similar things for around Christmastime? I think I would be killed if I didn't give something to do with chocolate: "where is my chocolate?", lol. I can picture it now. Although I assume you would also give Ashley some chocolate as well.

How exciting when the tomatoes grow and are ready to eat.

msoulz replied: That is an awesome idea - thanks for sharing! Normally I put their new swimsuits in their baskets but I had to get input from Jake this year so I can't do that for him. But he does like to garden and that might just be perfect!! thumb.gif

sparkys2boys replied: Very cute!

coasterqueen replied: Yep, I did this too for the girls. I think the one I got was from Miracle Grow either from TRU or Amazon. They are so cute!

Kaitlin'smom replied: yep I am doing something simlar getting her some seeds to plant, she wants to grow her flowers again and wants to try some veggies. cute idea

Boys r us replied: that is neat..I'll have to pick up a couple for braedon!

A&A'smommy replied: oooo that is a good idea, alyssa has been saying that she wants to grow something tongue.gif

jcc64 replied: That is a cute idea- I'm looking to move beyond the typical girlie stuff I always get Corey. She likes to garden with dh in the summer- this would be a good thing b/c it would be HER plant from start to finish.
Karen- is this something you did in the past, and if so, how did they like it?

coasterqueen replied:
Jeanne, I have just always in the past bought pots and seeds and let them do it. With everything going on right now I needed to get their Easter baskets done and wanted to do the planting thing again so I ordered the sets online, like I stated above. You can't go wrong with Miracle Gro (most times) tongue.gif If you want to know the exact set, let me know and I can send you the link.

In past some of the sets we bought were cheap from Walmart, Target, Dollar Store, and for some reason we couldn't get them to grow - so that's why I went with the Miracle Gro one this year.

3xsthefun replied: That sounds like a cute idea! I might have get some for the girls.

holley79 replied: I picked a coupl eof those up last night. They also have a huge children's gardening tools in our children's section. It was really neat so I picked up a couple of those for A as well.
