Need Advice on a Valentine's Dinner

Twelve Volt Man wrote: Hi all. My wife's pregnancy has been hard on her. She just hasn't felt up to do the things I've trained her to love: cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, rubbing my back, getting my beer, changing the oil in her car, bathing the dog, etc. Since she hasn't been able to enjoy herself, but instead has just been lying around relaxing, I figure I'm in charge of dinner tonight. wink.gif

She gets up early, so she never feels like going out for a nice dinner during the week. Therefore, I'm trying to decide what to make for a nice Valentine's Day dinner. Personally, I'd like a 6 pound T-Bone, but she's not a huge fan of steak. So, can you folks give me some suggestions on a nice dinner that I could prepare? I just can't decide.

P.S. After dinner, I may just surprise her with some dirty, dirty........ laundry for her to do!

gr33n3y3z replied: How about a nice roast of some kind
redskin potato with butter and herbs or mashed
veggies
Apple sauce
And her Fav. dessert
Sparkling cider

Our Lil' Family replied: I cooked dinner last night for my DH (we have a wedding to go to tonight) and I grilled shrimp, boiled baby carrots w/butter, parsley and salt & pepper and had some alfredo noodles. It was pretty good! If you decided to grill something you could have a steak and she could have chicken or shrimp....HTH!

lisar replied: How about her fav. meal. What does she like?

Twelve Volt Man replied:
She likes Italian food a lot, so I'm leaning in that direction. These are the ones I'm considering, thus far:

Shrimp is okay for pregnant women, isn't it? I'm still undecided, and won't be going to the store for a bit, so suggestions are still welcome! And thanks for the ideas already given!

lisar replied:
I say the creamy pesto. Shrimp is okay as long as she out of her first trimester. If she is still in her first trimester then she is isnt supposed to have it.

Good Luck. And let us know how it all turns out.

CantWait replied: I think shrimp is one of those things depending on the person. I say go for it, I ate it throughout mine.

I like alfredo (with Shrimp, extra yummy).

Our Lil' Family replied: I ate shrimp from beginning to end....it's fine!

C&K*s Mommie replied: What you have thought of so far, and what the other ideas are all sound delicious!! yummy.gif

Hope whatever you decide to do turns out well.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Depends on the person... I ate shrimp and sushi and all that so called stuff that's not good... i ate it before, i ate it during, and I eat it now. WHAT would the women whose diets consist of the things we're not supposed to have do? tongue.gif

Ps - my husband's still trying to train me to do those things... not working so well... tongue.gif

mummy2girls replied: for my Boyfriend I made parmesean chicken.... and he loved it!

take skinless chicken breast and shake in bake them. while the chicjken is cooking make some pasta. ( spagetti noodles are good) after the chicken is done take it out of the oven and put on top some spagetti sauce, shredded mozz cheese and sprinkle some parm cheese. and put back into oven until cheese melts. add remaining sauce on cooked pasta. take chicken out and place on the pasta. very yummy and easy to make

Calimama replied: Very sweet of you!

mom2my2cuties replied: Well what about making it easy on the both of you and doing nice takeout from a local italian resturant?

CantWait replied: What did you decide??

Twelve Volt Man replied: Thanks, everyone, for the help. In the end, I decided on a lemon-garlic shrimp scampi, since that's one of her favorite dishes at Carraba's. I added a green leaf salad with Greek vinagrette dressing, and Italian bread with a garlic butter parsley spread. Lot's of garlic, which didn't hamper the subsequent celebrations! wink.gif She LOVES dessert, so I made brownies and chocolate chip cookies topped with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce. I ended by giving her a bag of her favorite candy and a gift certificate for a prenatal massage, since she sure seems like she could use it. We then watched a movie. We both enjoyed the evening, so I think it was a success!

redchief replied: Congratulations on a winning evening. I assisted with dinner (unfortunately I had to do double duty with work today because one of the inspectors called out of work). I trimmed the roast (yes she took her advice above for us), I made the gravy (still need practice with that; it came out like brown water), then I made homemade bread pudding. The pudding was a huge success, the only problem being there wasn't enough. Anyway, I'm glad your dinner worked out well. smile.gif

CantWait replied: Sounds delisious. yummy.gif

TheOaf66 replied: good job buddy, glad it worked out well for ya, I can relate to your situation, my DW is almost 8 months so I try to do things to ease her load too thumb.gif

Calimama replied:
Sounds yummy!! thumb.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
emlaugh.gif OMG, did you and my hubby come from the same womb or what? Long lost brothers perhaps? All the sarcasm is much like him.

Patting you on the back on helping the wife out. I know how she feels. Hope all went well. Your wife sounds like me...I could live on Italian and the desserts!!!
