Need help/advise - No cats..

paradisemommy wrote: I apologize in advance to all you cat lovers out there, but does anyone know how to keep cats out of your yard? I chose not to have pets so that I don't have to deal with caring for them, mainly their doo doo.. I have neighbors who let their cats have the roam of the land and they climb our fence, come in our yard and take a crap - now it majorly reaks, not to mention is unsanitary for our kids to be out playing there when i don't know what they are going to run into..i'm majorly po'ed..is there anything i can do to hinder these darn creatures from using our yard as their litter box??? tia..

Nina J replied: I found this website:

I googled how to keep cats out of your yards, and just clicked on one of the first websites. There is probably lots more wink.gif

Jackie012007 replied: I know most cats hate peppermint... you could either plant peppermint plants where you don't want them to go, or sprinkle peppermint oil into the grass... it's non toxic so it is safe if other critters get into it. I know my friend has cats but doesn't like them getting all over the counters and kitchen table so she got this recipe to make pappermint spray that she sprays on the surfaces and wipes off... also dogs and cats do not like strong citrus smells. I know lemon juice can be used but if left under the sun it might burn out your grass... that's all I can tell you about that! blush.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied: THey make a spray to keep pets away that my SIL uses to keep the cats out of her yard. I'm not sure what it's called but she bought it at PetSmart and it works great. She sprayed it all around the perimeter of her yard and hen I walk my dog past her house the dog won't even walk next to the grass. It's safe around kids, too.

gr33n3y3z replied: We just call the police station and then they call the animal control they come out and set traps
But mind you these for the most part are unclaimed cats that ppl. have left behind sad.gif but all cats and dogs have to have ID's here.

I hope the other ideas work before this has to be done.

kimberley replied: i have heard that peppermint works also. or you could be like my friend and just put all the poop in a bag and leave it on the offenders front porch laugh.gif they get the hint real fast to keep an eye on their pets.

good luck. hug.gif

coasterqueen replied: I'd talk to the owners and tell them you are going to call animal control if they don't keep their pets in their own yards wink.gif.

Kaitlin'smom replied: also you can use moth balls to keep them away. We had a few strays peeing in our flower beds I burried some moth balls (I actually found ones that smelled ok) and that was the end of them doing that.

hummm pepermint wonder if that would work on funiture to keep them off.

amynicole21 replied:
Moth balls are toxic to pets and children - I'd avoid using them if possible wink.gif

There are tons of sprays you can buy at Petsmart (or other pet stores) that bother cats but are not toxic. You can have your pick tongue.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied:
yes your right they can be the ones I found a few years ago when it was a HUGE problem (way before Kait came along) it was espically to keep cats away and it said non-toxic. I also burryed them in the mulch.

paradisemommy replied: thanks everyone for the input..heading to the store for some peppermint and sprays!! thumb.gif

holley79 replied:
