Need help quickly please - Will is sick
my2monkeyboys wrote: This morning Will didn't want anything to eat, and he said his neck was kind of sore. I thought maybe he'd slept on it wrong bc he said he felt fine. Then lunch rolled around and he didn't want anything then, either. We were swimming for a birthday party so I just thought he was too excited about that. About 5 this afternoon I realized he was warm - he was running a temp of 100.5. So far he's only eaten a popsicle and had a couple of drinks today. Just a few minutes ago I noticed that his jaws look puffy - like they're swollen. Naturally I think of the mumps, but he's been vaccinated. Other than the slight fever, a little soreness in his neck, and the swollen jaw, he's tired and has no appetite. Any ideas about this or if I should call the dr. tonight or wait until Monday? Thanks!!
Insanemomof3 replied: I would call the doc, if for nothing else just to put YOUR mind at ease as well. Hope he feels better!!!
redchief replied: The swelling might be his glands fighting whatever bug he's got. I'm a little bit concerned about the neck pain. I would definitely call the doc.
my2monkeyboys replied: Well, I finally got to talk the drs. nurse and after going through everything she was just like, well, I'm not sure what it is since he's been immunized against mumps, but according to the guide I'm looking at for his symptoms he probably should be seen in the ER just to make sure his breathing passage isn't swelling. If they refer you to see a doctor for treatment, then the after-hours clinic is open tomorrow from 12 -2:30.
So, I guess we have to make a trip to the ER.
MoonMama replied: Poor little guy! Please KUP, I hope he feels better asap!
Danalana replied: I'm praying everything is ok!
amymom replied: KUP I hope you are all home resting by now.
boyohboyohboy replied: HOw is wil?
my2monkeyboys replied: Luckily my aunt was on duty at the ER last night, so she was able to see Will. She said she thought it was just a virus and that I just needed to watch him through the night; if he got worse or wasn't better today then I should take him to the clinic. So, about 5 this morning he got up and got himself some yogurt. Shortly after that his fever broke and now, other than being tired, he seems fine. Even the swelling in his jaws went down. I am going to keep a close eye on him over the next couple of days, just to be sure it isn't playing possum, but for now at least he seems much better. Weird... Thanks for everyone's help!!!
redchief replied: I'm glad to hear he's feeling better.
My3LilMonkeys replied: Glad to hear it's not serious.
Crystalina replied: My first thought was Mono. http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/infecti...leosis-symptoms
I'd keep a close eye on him and if the fever, swelling and loss of appetite return I would insist he be tested.
youngmomofone replied: glad that everything seems to be OK with Will, and that it wasn't serious.
my2monkeyboys replied: It seems it was too good to be true -- Will's fever has returned. It is very low, only 100.3, but it's here none-the-less. So far he says he still feels normal - no more swelling, no sore neck. I guess we'll see what happens.
luvmykids replied: Oh yuck, poor guy! As long as the swelling/neck pain don't return, I'd say it does sound like a virus running it's course. KUP and I hope he feels better soon!
my2monkeyboys replied: I'm thinking it's a cold now. He woke up last night with a sore throat, a little cough and a stuffy nose. He says he feels pressure in his ears when he burps, too. So, for now I'm going to treat him for a cold and hope it doesn't progress to anything else. His swollen jaws still confuse me, but maybe it was just what Ed said.
jcc64 replied: Sometimes it takes more than one office visit to get to the bottom of weird virus-y things. If the swelling doesn't go down, if it was me, I'd take him back in. Good luck and KUP.
A&A'smommy replied: yuck I'm sorry it sounds like a little virus to me I would just watch him and let him rest!!! I hate having sick kids I hope it goes away QUICKLY!!!
coasterqueen replied: I hope he feels better soon.
my2monkeyboys replied: Thanks ladies. Thankfully the swelling is gone in his jaws - I'm not sure what caused it or why it went away so quickly. Hopefully it was just part of this virus thing he has. He is eating ok and drinking plenty today, so I feel good about that. I'll let you know if it turns into something else, of course!
youngmomofone replied: That's so weird he had swelling in his jaws and especially for a short amount of time, but glad that it was short and he's feeling better.
Swood75 replied: I'm glad Will is feeling better
MommyToAshley replied: I am glad that swelling in his jaw and the sore neck went away, thats'what concerned me most about your post.
Hope he is on the mend and feels better soon, poor guy.
