Another thing, is it ok for Kayla to have it.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: I googled avocado and this is a recipe I found at cooks.com AVOCADO DIP
1 large or 2 small avocados 1 (8 oz.) cream cheese 1/2 c. diced fresh tomato 1/4 c. finely diced onion 1 tbsp. lemon juice
Mash avocado and cream cheese in a bowl and cream until smooth. Add tomatoes and onions and lemon juice, salt to taste. Stir in just as much hot sauce to suit your taste. Serve with chips or crackers.
Here's another webiste I found....I've never had an avocado before and wouldnt know what to do with it either! http://www.elise.com/recipes/archives/0017..._an_avocado.php
http://parenting.ivillage.com/tp/tpnutrition/0,,3vt3,00.html This may answer your question about them being okay for DD
Hope that was some help!
mckayleesmom replied: My kids love Avacado....cut up plain or in guacamole....you name it....They even like it sliced up on a hamburger.
kayla's mama replied: To be honest....I've never had avacado
Thanks for the suggestion so far
mckayleesmom replied: the kids also like them in tacos...They don't even really have that much flavor...but they like them.
paradisemommy replied: i LOVE avocados..
i cut them in half, take a spoonful of mayo and put it in the middle and either eat it like that or put some soy sauce on top of the mayo (just scoop it out with your spoon)..sounds pretty gross but that's how i grew up eating them and i love them!!!
or like brianne said - slice them up and put them on sandwiches, hamburgers
CantWait replied: or in a salad..
luvmykids replied: I love them and eat them on sandwiches, burgers, salads, plain, mushed up with chips, you name it.
I am allergic to them though, so if Kayla has shown any allergies towards melons, bananas or cucumbers you may want to proceed with caution. I eat them but my throat itches like crazy and if I really gorge, my throat swells and my hands start itching too.
jacobsmama replied: I don't like them But DH and Jacob loves them! they aren't so bad in avacodo dip ( i Use extra salsa) but never ate them on sandwiches before.
Cece00 replied: I dont care for them either....occasionally I will eat guacamole, but avocados have so much fat in them, I generally just dont eat them.
kayla's mama replied:
Hmmm.....I don't know that they have fat in them.
luvmykids replied: I could be wrong but I think it's the "good" fat, the kind you need.
ilovemybaby replied: Here...
Are avocados fattening and bad for cholesterol?
Avocados are high in fat, but contain no cholesterol - no plant foods do! Along with olives, they are the only high-fat fruits. Between 70-90% of the calories in avocados are from fat , of which 60% is made up of "mono-unsaturated" fat or the "good" fat. This type of fat may help lower bad LDL cholesterol and therefore benefit people with heart disease when substituted for saturated fats.
The Seven Countries Study and more recently the Multinational Monitoring of Trends and Determinants in Cardiovascular Disease (MONICA Project) have shown that a diet high in fat, but rich in mono-unsaturated fats can be associated with a low incidence of coronary heart disease. Avocados may also even help protect against certain kinds of cancer.
They are also free of sodium and have all the benefits of being a plant food. To put the fat in perspective, avocados contain just five grams of fat per serving - a level usually acceptable for inclusion in a low-fat diet. A serving size would be equal to about a quarter of an avocado. So, go right ahead and put some guacamole on your burrito!
IMO they are like Eggs... good for you but in moderation (at least that's what they say... just like Milk) You'd probably have to eat a few a day. Half or even one a day is probably alright. I read that Californian Avocados only contain 5 grams of fat. I like avocado on pizza and in salad.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: I read that they have "good" fat in them too
CantWait replied: They do have fat in them, but it's a good fat, much like that in yogart that isn't fat free.
huggybugboy replied: when i was making baby food for miles I put avocado in just about all of it. Supposedly theyre really good for vitamin A and potassium. I like them in salad or tacos. They are pretty tasteless.
