Need opinions on beds for the boys...

redplaydoh wrote: We're still bed shopping... we found these two bed types this weekend. We're looking to conserve a little space since they both share the big bedroom (master bedroom). Both would do it for us and Lucas' favorite is the fold down version. Bryan's is the other one. We would like to re-do their rooms for their big Christmas present.

Here's the fold down version.

Here's Bryan's favorite, it has a writing desk and a small closet with shelves on one end.

Which do you like?

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: I like Bryan's favorite. It maximizes floor space and gives you added storage.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: so would you need two of the second one???

I would probably say the first. they will outgrow both of them in a few years but the first will give them more play room until that point.

redplaydoh replied:

Yes, we would need two of the second one.

Calimama replied: The first one would probably be better in terms of space wise, but it looks kind of.. scary. I'm sure it's sturdy it just doesn't look AS sturdy as the other one. I guess I would get the brown one, the first one scares me. unsure.gif

CantWait replied: Well seeing on how I think they'll outgrow both of them within a few years anyway (well a little more then that), I say the second one. It's got the cool desk, the storage, but it has the height and feel of the bunkbed that the first one has.

My3LilMonkeys replied: I think the first one is really neat, but I know in my house there would be a constant battle over who gets the top bunk, so I would probably have to go with the 2nd option to avoid the headaches.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I'd go for the second one, just to avoid nasty accidents like the beds falling out on someone's head, or the pain in the butt of having to clear out a space in order to bring the beds down at night when the kids have been playing all day and I'm too lazy to fiht with them about picking up their toys.

Plus, the desk one is practical and can be used a little longer than just a bed that can be put away, in my opinion.

Anthony275 replied: yeah, the railing in the first looks like anybody can roll over that.

second one is good. ive seen those types with another bed leading out vertically, still with the desk.

Sam & Abby's Mom replied: They're both pretty cool. Tough decision....................................

A&A'smommy replied: Well personally i don't think I would go with either even though they are both really cool.. so i don't know.. I think they second one is better and looks a little safer. Good luck and have fun!!

redplaydoh replied: Ok, here's my thoughts...

I'll explain a few things on the first one first. The beds can't fall on your head they have a controlled hinge that lowers them slowly. The bedrail in the picture Lucas was playing with moving it up and down so in the picture it's pretty much in the down position. The unit has to be bolted to the wall and the top bunk can support the weight of two adults, so it is very sturdy.

The pros and cons of the first one for me is that it would really open a lot of space up but it is expensive, more than what I want to spend on a bed but I will get a lot of space for them opened up. I also thought it looked a little like berth beds on a ship... Lucas likes the top bunk and Bryan wants the bottom so maybe we wouldn't have issues, but if we did I thought one month B gets it and next month L.

The second one reminds me of a crib. A giant crib... and getting two of them would take up a LOT of room. But I liked the desk and storage area...

We have seriously considered a bed with a top bunk and the lower bed that angles out in an L shape but when we were looking at it at the store it took Lucas about 30 seconds to realize that when Bryan is laying on the bottom bed he can drop things off the top to land on top of Bryan. So I think that is out for now....
