Need thoughts and prayers - DH's cousin's toddler drowned
My2Beauties wrote: We got a call on Sunday from my MIL letting us know DH's little cousin, who is only 5 yeard old drowned on Sunday morning at a public pool. There was no lifeguard on duty it was a swim at your own risk pool in Indiana (they live near Bloomington), we don't have those here so I had never heard of a public pool being swim at your own risk. They had a video camera and the grandmother was laying out on the lawnchair suntanning and the little boy's mom was talking to some guy not paying any attention and the little boy got out of the 3 foot and went over to the 12 foot deep end and jumped in. They said the videotape showed him struggling and eventually succumbing to the water and just floating and finally he went all the way under. Literally like minutes went by before anyone noticed. His grandfather whom we are closes to (he is DH's cousin as well but is really close to DH's older brother, he comes in town frequently and spends a lot of time at our house as well) said that it was the hardest thing he had to watch. They drug-tested both the grandmother (his ex-wife) and the mother (his daughter obviously) but no one has heard those results. The grandmother stated that she told her daughter she was going to lay out and was making sure she was watching the baby (which I honestly believe) but then she just didn't watch him and this is what happened. We also cannot believe how no one noticed, the grandfather said that there were a lot of people just walking around. I am baffled at how no one noticed a 5 year old toddler in the 12 foot deep side of the pool. I am going to try to find a story in their local paper on it, I think they are from Edinburgh, IN, which I know is near Bloomington, but I might be wrong about the name of the town. Say a prayer for the little guy.
MommyToAshley replied: Oh my gosh, how terribly awful. I'm so sorry!!! I don't think I could watch the video, let alone being related and having to watch the video.
Prayers said.
BAC'sMom replied: How horrible
I will keep everyone in my thoughts & prayers
coasterqueen replied: I'm speechless.
P&pt's go out to them all.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Sending my thoughts and prayers.
Danalana replied: I can't even imagine! I'm praying for the family An 18-month old girl drowned very near here a few days ago...wandered out of the house and climbed into the above-ground pool next door where her family often swam. Her parents never even knew she had gone outside can you imagine living with that for the rest of your life? Poor baby
My2Beauties replied: That breaks my heart This is why I just do not want a pool, DH and I have talked about it and I'm not saying you can't take precautions and if it were just Hanna I would because she isn't mischievious but Aubrey gets into EVERYTHING and she loves to play with the locks on the doors and she scares me to death, I'd die if she got out at night or something. I just don't even want to take the chance even though I know we'd take every precaution. If we did, she'd have to take swimming lessons, Hanna already knows how to swim.
Danalana replied: Richard and I were talking about it. If we got an above-ground pool, we would move the steps out of the pool every single day. It scares the crap out of me.
coasterqueen replied: Yep, we do that, too. You can also put a fenced in area around it. There are pool alarms you can buy, etc, etc, etc for safety.
My2Beauties replied: I'm not positive I think this may be the story, MIL said he was 4 but later on my SIL said she thought he was 5, the story says 4, this is the exact story and MIL called around 6:30 I'm assuming he probably drowned a few hours before we heard the news

Mommy2BAK replied: so so sad! I am sorry for your family loss
luvmykids replied: OMG So tragic, poor little baby Many thoughts and prayers for the whole family
I love our public pool, kids who haven't passed a swimming test regardless of age have to wear a neon wrist band and be within arms reach of a parent at all times. They enforce it, too.
luvbug00 replied: how sad, I'm soo sorry
MoonMama replied: That is so incredibly sad! I am so sorry, your family will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers!
my2monkeyboys replied: This is one of my biggest fears. I'm so sorry for their loss. Prayers being said.
TLCDad replied: Oh I am so sorry for their loss. Prayers said.
How terrible. And a swim at your risk public pool? Something is just not right about that.
mckayleesmom replied: So sad. I pray for you all.
BTW...don't think that just taking the ladder out of an above ground pool will always work...My mom did that when we were little and our sister managed to get in somehow anyways when she was 2...luckily we found her in time.
cameragirl21 replied: I'm so sorry, LeaAnn, prayers said.
