Schnoogly replied: It must be so hard for you to be PG and know everything that can go wrong! That's a wonderful job you have though I am so grateful to the NICU nurses who took care of my son (he was born with a congenital heart defect and spent 2.5 weeks in NICU, then cardiac ICU after surgery, then another surgery at 3 months old) Some of them (not all, I must confess) were so wonderful and caring. They even taught me how to take care of him--I had no idea how to feed a bottle (was planning on BF), or change a diaper or give medicine.

Maybe you can give me your thoughts on something too--my son was born on Christmas eve last year and this year for his birthday we were planning to go visit the NICUs of both hospitals where he stayed to show them how healthy he is now. Do you think this is something they would appreciate? I'm sure they will remember us at his birth hospital, not sure about the second, larger one where he had his surgery though. I just thought they might want to have some good news on Christmas eve and see a healthy toddler instead of so many tiny, sick babies.

I hope you have a very healthy PG, birth, and especially healthy baby. Welcome!!

I am seeing alot of babies sick and dieing in my care and other nurses cares also...and too see a baby i took care of a year later much healthier and doing wonderful would lift my spirits and make me feel i am doing a good job.Because sometimes you think what your doing isnt enough... Alot of N.I.C.U's have a bullitine board of pics of kids and babies that were born very premature and sick and they post them when they are older and healthier.

I am glad your son is doing well..heart defects and such are very scarey things to have to face. let me know how it goes
