No Sleep ... Crying all night - Isabella that is

Mommy2Isabella wrote: What is wrong with my baby ...

Her normal bedtime is 8:30 - 9 and she wakes up around 8:30 - 9 the next morning.

Last night, we put her down and she played for a bit, then fell asleep about an hour later she woke up screaming and wouldn't stop until 1 am. I couldn't figure out what was wrong ... no fever, no change in food, so i assumed it wasn't a belly ache.
She went back to sleep and about an hour later started screaming again for about 2 hours.

It has been like this all day today. During her nap and everything .. what could it be???

Calimama replied: Teething? Was she constipated? Those are usually the two that cause Bella to cry. With teeth though they typically have a fever, but maybe they are just starting. Good luck, I hope she's better tonight for you. hug.gif

gotoneson replied: My son was usually a great sleeper also, unless...

EAR INFECTION.

He did not change his eating or diapering habits, nor did he have a fever most of the time. But BOY did he scream.

I'd take him to the doctor and the doctor would tell me that after lying down for about an hour the pressure from the infection builds up, wakes him, and makes him cry.

It's worth a trip to the doc to have a look.

Let us know how it goes.

Mommy2Isabella replied: No she had a BM right before bed. So i know constipation isn't it. Teeth, I don't see or feel a thing ... today we are both exhausted and I take care of my niece and nephew during the day, so it is making for a long day today. ... BLAH

I guess this is what having kids is all about ... smile.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied: OH NO ...

I surely hope it isn't an ear infection ... that would be our 4th one within a couple months and we would be going to get tubes ... sad.gif ... I guess if it happens again tonight, I will be calling, HOWEVER I could get my dad to check it out today ... < he used to be a corpsman in the navy ... < AKA Dr. type!

Thanks for the help guys!

moped replied: If only they could tell you!

Could be teeth, could be she just isn't feeling great, could be just a bad day or two.......I have no clue. Constipated, hungry, growth spurt, too hot, too cold, uncomfortable clothing, overtired, I am out of ideas..................

Mommy2Isabella replied: Oh Geez Jen ... lol ...

I will try a remedy for each and see where that gets me. .... lol I may be very tired and cranky tomorrow!

Calimama replied:
Does she normally wake up crying like this when she's had her other ear infections? If so, than you've probably found the problem. hug.gif

Mommy2Isabella replied: Eh, not that I have noticed, but I don't think that could be it, she is still on the antibiotics for the ear infection we found about a week ago!

Our Lil' Family replied: If she is still on antibiotics I'd guess that it's not ear infection but teething instead. Try giving her some Motrin if she seems bothered.

Mommyof3 replied: Mackenzie use to do that and I talked the the dr about it and he said that it's called night terror.
Did she look like she was listening to you? Did she let you hold her to calm her down?
Mackenzie would wake up screaming but not really be awake. She rarely let me hold her and she didn't really look like she was listening to anything I was saying to her. I also taught a boy who had night terror and he grew out of it and so did Mackenzie. She started off doing it a little at a time and then it turned into an every night thing. All of a sudden one night, it was gone and it hasn't happened since.
I hope Isabella doesn't have that, but it could be a possibility if she doesn't have anything else wrong physically.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Night terrors is what popped into my head too. Is she consolable? Does she act like she's awake but really isn't? Tanner had them even before his first b-day and until after he turned 2. hug.gif

ETA: is she acting this way even when she's fully awake? Or is it just when she wakes up? If it's this way ALL the time, then it's not a night terror, but if it's just when she wakes up it def. could be that.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
You know, now that I read this again it really doesn't sound like a night terror. Usually night terrors happens after a sleep cycle, and two times within a night, both after only one hour isn't a sleep cycle. Humm...if it persists I would take her in just in case she is coming down with an ear infection. Remember too, kids always have off nights too for no apparent reason. I hope you can figure out what it is.

Swood75 replied: That sounds just like Kyleigh when she used to get ear infections ALL the time..She also was on an antibiotic for 1 of them and the antibiotic didn't work and she ended up having another on top of the one she already had..She had to have tubes and has only had a couple now in about 3 years..The tubes just fell out a couple months ago..and she was about 1 1/2 yrs old when she got them and is 4 now..

MommyToAshley replied: I would take her back to the doc... if she's had 4 ear infections, she may be immune to the same antibiotic and need a different med or dose.

I hope she feels better soon. hug.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: i was thinking if it was an ear infection that she might also be crying thru the day also in pain.
i sure hope she is feeling better..

Mommy2Isabella replied: WHEW .. The night terror thing had me worried ...

I don't think it is that. She is def. awake, she does her mamamamamamama thing ... smile.gif

However, the immunity to the antibiotic, sounds right on the head. I talked to my dad about it and he said it could be a possibility. He said to see what happens and if she starts a fever to call and take her in ...

She is napping right now and hasn't woken up yet, so , so far so good!

gotoneson replied: Please keep us posted.

My son is going for tubes next week. He's had seven ear infections so far this year. He just finished a new anti-biotic for yet another infection, because the first *two* anti-biotics weren't effective. The doc also added a steroid to control the inflammation.

Also...if your daughter gets ear infections often, ask about the prescription drops that numb their ears, if you haven't already. I didn't know about them until very recently and they work for my son really, really well. I forgot what they're called...there's also an OTC version that is all natural (and didn't work as well) called Similison. If memory serves, it's very expensive, too.

Good luck.

Mommy2Isabella replied: Thanks for all the advice guys.

We may be headed back to the dr. within a couple days!!

jem0622 replied: Well I am not sure if she is nursed or bottlefed. Either way, it could be the milk protein in the bm or formula. In either case, remove the milk/dairy aspect of it.

The other possibility is reflux.

Lots of HUGS!
