I've never had one but....wont' be getting one ever! My DH swears by them and I refuse to take them or have the kids vaccinated with them as well.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: wink.gif

mckayleesmom replied: I don't get it for me or the kids either.

AlexsPajamaMama replied: we dont get them either

anti-freeze wacko.gif no thanks!

A&A'smommy replied: thats why we DON'T get the flu shot

punkeemunkee'smom replied: Unfortunately that list of ingredients can be found in most of the vaccines available. unsure.gif huh.gif wacko.gif

Nina J replied: I get the flu shot every year, and the pnuemonia shot every 5 years. I don't want to get influenza, lol.

The way I see it, we breathe in fumes from cars, trucks, etc and probably eat a lot of food with bad stuff in it. So, I don't really have any concerns getting the flu shot. This actually made me remember I have to make an appointment to go get it in a few weeks emlaugh.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Are all of those ingredients really still used? I thought that they had stopped putting thimerosal in vaccines but that was on the list. unsure.gif I wonder how recently that article was written?

We don't get the flu shot, and our kids have never gotten it, but we are seriously considering it for next year after getting close to it this past week. We always hear so much about how bad it can be, but no one we know has ever gotten it until Alyssa and Brianna got it this week. Andrew had a touch of it too, and we're still waiting to see if Allie will get it. It is TERRIFYING to think of one of my kids getting a really bad case of influenza ~ I actually just saw on the news that a 5 year old girl just died from it. I don't like the idea of putting any of those things into my kids bodies, but I'd rather have that than lose one of them, no matter how slim the chances might be. sleep.gif

If you are worried about the ingredients in any of your vaccines, you can ask your doctor for a list of ingredients before you agree to get the shots. I haven't ever done this, but I want to the next time the kids get their shots because i want to know if this stuff is still in there or not.

Nina J replied: I am sure there are ingredients in flu shots that don’t sound to appealing to anyone, but if a doctor will get the flu shot, I am happy to get it myself. Doctors and health care workers are required to have all of there vaccinations, with documented proof, before they can work. At least, that is the way it is here. So if someone who has been educated about all of these things for 6+ years to allow them to be injected in to there bodies, then I won’t say no. Plus, the article was written by someone who is obviously anti-flu shot, and as far as I can see, there is no evidence that they have any higher education in regards to pharmacology or medicine. Until I read an article written by a doctor or a health care worker telling me not to get the flu shot or any other vaccination, then I will keep getting them. But I don’t see why these people would object, considering that they have to have these immunisations to be allowed to work.

I have no qualms about parents objecting to vaccinations, it doesn’t bother me. It is their prerogative. But I always wonder, when I meet a parents who don’t vaccinate there kids, what will happen when those children are grown up and perhaps want to be a nurse? They will have to be vaccinated then. And believe me, it is expensive. The government has all of the free schemes for childhood vaccinations, but if you want to be vaccinated as an adult against Hepatitis A and B, it will cost you at least $60 for each needle, and you need 3 of them. I know because I recently discovered I had no immunity to the Hepatitis’, I found a chemist who charged $65 for a prescription of twinrix, while others charge $90. I went with the $65 one, obviously... Of course it is not possible to see in to a child’s future but I did wonder this since I am currently getting some of my own vaccinations done. I just assume of course that the child, who would actually be an adult, would get the vaccinations when they’re older if they needed them for their field of work. I guess at least then, they are able to make there own choice regarding chemicals being put in to there body. I wasn’t to pleased to have to pay so much money though, so I wish I wasn’t given the choice so I didn't have to pay emlaugh.gif

Influenza can kill you, and even if it doesn’t, it makes you seriously ill and it does take a while to recover. I would rather get a quick needle than be ill for a week and spend several more weeks recovering to my full health. I don’t have the time to be able to be that ill; I’d rather get something with anti-freeze injected in to me, lol. And I will have it injected in to me until the year I die.

mommy~to~a~bunch replied: The ingredients are scary, and I for one do not want that injected into MY body, let alone my children's. I'll take the risk of getting the flu.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
There are still a few shots that thermisol is used in, the flu being one. Most don't, but some still do contain the ingredient.

We do vac's, but we do not do the flu, and our doctor's office uses mercury free vacs as well.

MommyToAshley replied:
The flue nasal mist does not contain Thimerosal or many of the other items listed in the article. I agree with the person that said to get a list of ingredients from your doc if you are concerned what's in the shot.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
I think that's a good idea. I always ask our doc if the shots are mercury free, and he says yes, they do not use any that contain the ingredient because of the risks. smile.gif Anyone know how old the article is? The Chiro I work for has articles dating back to the 70's that he has hanging up in his office. rolleyes.gif Although they are informative, it's really important to keep our information up to date.

Jackie012007 replied: I got a flu shot, and I got sick anyways. What a waste! wacko.gif

mckayleesmom replied: My reasons really haven't a whole lot to do with the ingredients......Mine have to do with always getting the worst case of the flu the day after the vaccine.....No thanks....I will take my chances on getting it naturally.

A&A'smommy replied:
unfortuantly getting to flu shot does not guarentee that you aren't going to get the flu because there is a different strain every year and they usually use the strain from the year before.

We do NOT get the flu shot because I don't want to put that stuff in my baby or myself. When i go next week to get my 4D ultrasound i'm going by the peds office and getting their information on their shots and their normal shot routine so that I can create my own and refuse what I don't want put into her little body.

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
Good for you Jessica! You can refuse any and all shots, but you can never take them out of their body.

Nina J replied: I have never gotton the flu, whether or not it is because I get the shot I don't know. Probably I am never even exposed to anyone with actual influenza. The flu shot is not 100% but since I have had it for as long as I can recall, and never had flu, I guess I will continue to get it.

I have probably jinxed myself now and will get flu this year emlaugh.gif

You can't take them out of your body, you are right Mollie. But they do not last forever, in most cases. Or if you don't follow schedules, like I am getting hepatitis vaccines at the moment but if you don't get all 3 of them, then you immunity will drop to nothing after like, a year or two years.

But like I said, I don't mind if people chose not to vaccinate themselves or there children, because you have every right to make that choice. And really, it is good that you stand for what you believe in. How is your doctor about it? Have they ever tried to talk you in to vaccinating?

My2Beauties replied:
I'm not anti-vaccination for diseases such as polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis etc...but the flu....I just think the flu vaccine is not needed, JMO.

Cece00 replied: We all got them this yr thumb.gif So far, no flu.

redchief replied: I've gotten the flu shot the last two years running.

BTW, flu shots are usually contraindicated for healthy children.

Influenza is responsible for more deaths globally than cancer.

Influenza is a major cause of pneumonia, a prolific killer of geriatric patients.

Flu shots are recommended for most adults over the age of 18, but are only strongly recommended for those adults who are most susceptible to infection, such as those in health care fields and other high risk fields.

The Influenza Pandemic of 1918 killed more people in one year than Bubonic Plague did at it's height in four years between 1347 and 1351.

Flu isn't nasty? Think again.

Our Lil' Family replied:
Be careful with the nasal mist one though, it has live viral strands (probably not proper terminology) instead of dead ones. I wanted to get that for Thomas instead of the shot thinking it would be less of a struggle and DH said absolutely not!

I get one for Thomas and DH obviously gets one but I don't....not any real reason that I don't though.

Jamison'smama replied: Right now, Jack is the only one who gets the flu shots. They are still cultured with eggs and since Jama has an egg allergy, she can't get one. Jack got the shot this year and was the only one in the family that didn't get the flu--we all had it after our Disney trip and we were out for over a week. Jack got a runny nose, then he was fine. He gets the shot because he has asthma that is brought on by viruses.. if he got the flu, he would be in the hospital.

It is important to understand that influenza can be dangerous to those with compromised respiratory systems.

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
thumb.gif No flu shots here at all, and no flu! Imagine that!
