Not happy with Brother....

And that io was scared his mom may not return with him....Anyways i went to my nephews birthday party this afternoon for a bit as my brother was there and wanted me to come along...so i was talking to my bros ex and she tells me that my nephew is going to be gone for 10 months! 10 months...HUH?? I said to her..i thought you guys were only going for 3 months. She said no...he is going for 8 months by himself with his grandma(the grandma is visiting from kenya) and she is staying here till july. Then she is going down to kenya. Then in october they are both coming back.HUH!!! I am so upset my brother is letting his son be gone that much. And being a mom how can u be away from your child for 8 months? God i hope she returns with him....

Kirstenmumof3 replied: OMG I would be worried too! You hear to many horror stories about the parent just taking the child and never returning! I can't believe she would let him go for 8mths without her though. I'm having a hard enough time with Daycare! I hope all goes well and he returns safe and sound!

kimberley replied: i am sorry to hear about this. didn't your brother only give her permission to leave for 3 months and with his ex?! is he going to do anything to stop this? i don't think it is fair to the child to send him to a foreign country for so long without at least one parent with him. i pray they come back too. keep us posted.

Heather replied: OH WOW that is really bizarre...why would she just send him over there for 8 months? By himself? I hope nothing sneaky is going on. Poor little guy.

jem0622 replied: I would be concerned also...but remember that different countries have different ways of doing things and it is not uncommon to spend lots of time with extended family. Do you have a reason to think she would take him away? Do they have a bad relationship?

I would agree with that but this kind of thing has been cinstantly happening...when he was 3 months old she took him to kenya for 1.5 years, then she took him when he was 2 for 4 months, then at 3 she took him for 6 months and now he is 4 and she is taking him for a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like i understand if her family hasnt see n= him for a long time. but every 6 months he is gone to kenya for a at least 4 month visit!

Could be that his family can't afford to come here and they can afford that expense. Maybe she wants for him to be exposed to both sides of the family and cultures. And maybe your brother wants to respect that.

I would flip if my son was gone for that long and I certainly would never do that myself. I could understand yearly visits. But nothing that is more than a month or so.

If she is doing this yearly then it really doesn't sound like it is a situation where she is trying to take him away. But maybe she is just taking it all to an extreme I guess.

yes her family can afford to come here they come to canada also to see my nephew also. And the grandmother has been here for 6 months now. Anyways...I know they want him exposed to different cultures and such and i have no problems with that.

Im just scared because when she was in kenya that first time with my nephew she wasnt going to come back. but she did after stalling the process for 8 months. Oh well. im sure she will be back just a little part of me is scared!
