Not sure what to think - my step-bro rescued a baby seal pup

Apparently there was a baby seal wrapped in a fishing net in San Deigo, but the authorities couldn't figure out what to do for 3 days because they didn't want to venture onto the protected beach and scare off the rest of the seals. There was all sorts of public outcry, and my step-brother decided to go down there and free it. He met a stranger on the beach who was also disturbed, and the two of them crawled down there and cut the net away. Now they are facing an "investigation" into their actions which broke the law. While I am SO happy that these compassionate people did what they knew in their hearts had to be done to solve a problem created by man, the laws are there for a reason. My step-brother is interviewed in the video in the link.
stella6979 replied: Hmmmm....I actually give kudos to your Step-Brother. I know there are laws and we should all abide by them, but who knows how long that seal would have survived had someone not intervened. I guess I just don't understand why people didn't step in sooner. I know it's a protected beach, but I'm sure the seals would come back.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Wow that is your step-brother!?! We saw the story on the news...I do understand the laws and why they are there. I know it is to keep the colony as a whole safe. You can't have every person on the beach running out there on a 'mission of mercy' because it looks like a seal is in trouble. KWIM? That being said because the intent here was to help I hope they do not push this any futher and they do not file charges ( ) on your brother!
If it helps any please tell him that he was pronounced to be a 'very kind and loving man-who probably made that momma seal very happy helping her baby' by a 6 year old in Texas who saw the story too and was talking about it for several hours afterward!
Crystalina replied: I can't get the flippin' video to play. Hopefully nothing happens to your step-brother. Geesh, it's not like he freed a tank full of lobster from a tank in a restaurant.
MommyToAshley replied: Poor seal -- after seeing that pic, I can see why he stepped in to help. I don't understand why it would take the authorities so long to put into action "a plan" to cut a freakin' rope. I understand the reason for the laws, they can't have everyone just jumping in. But, I hope he isn't charged with anything since it was his intent to help. They should just let this story die out, no need to make an example of them.
A&A'smommy replied: I think he did the right thing!!!
Boys r us replied: OMG..I think it's ludacris to pursue legal action against someone who was 'doing the right thing'! When I see stuff like this, I have to think...what's this world coming to??
I truly feel like that he will have nearly the full support of the people!
Calimama replied: I saw that on the news!
Good for him for helping!
mckayleesmom replied: Doesn't the law have better things to do then go after a guy that was doing something humane?
Kirstenmumof3 replied: What a very loving and caring step-brother you have! What he did was so wonderful, I really hope that they don't press charges!
