OMG My poor little Colt man
luvmykids wrote: A little while ago I heard the worst scream I've ever heard out of one of my kids It's ok, he's not hurt, but there was a TARANTULA in his bedroom Do not ask me how or why because we have no idea, and THANK GOD DH is here and not in GA or we would be at a hotel right now. But poor Colt was shaking like a leaf and telling me even his legs were frightened
On a funny note, he asked if there are spiders in army barracks and I said yes, especially in Iraq, and he said "Oh man, we have GOT to send those guys some bug spray"
Danalana replied: Oh man, I can't handle it...you have to move!!
luvmykids replied: We ARE moving but I'm afraid to see how big they are in TX
I do feel a little better after a little googling, apparantly their bites can sting a little but they rarely bite, and they feed on crickets, scorpions, and even rodents. But STILL, just not a sight you want to see
MoonMama replied: A TARANTULA?!?!?!?!?!
As in giant spider that would have me running FAR, FAR, FAR, FAR AWAY?!?
How big was it?
Calimama replied: Omg. I would be at a hotel anyway.. caught or not. It may have a friend.
luvmykids replied: ROFL at both of you
Ally, I said THE SAME THING to DH, "THANK GOD you are here or we would all be on our way to a hotel" and Denise, that was one of the google facts I relayed to DH, that the ones you see are usually males looking for their mates
It wasn't THAT big, I didn't get that close but DH said the body was about two inches around.
Oh, and apparently they are mostly nocturnal, which gives me hope that in the future we will sleep through the whole ordeal
Calimama replied: You are a trooper. You inspire me to be.. less... wussy-ish. I didn't say it was gonna happen.. just that I'm inspired.
luvmykids replied: I am still full a full blown wuss, don't get me wrong
MoonMama replied: I know right.
2 inches is still WAAAAAAYYYYYYYY too big for me!
MommyToAshley replied: YIKES!!!!! And, poor Colt.
I saw a few REALLY big ones when I lived in Louisiana. I was only 7 at the time and I still remember the experience like it was yesterday. I'm glad we were only there for two years.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: O M G!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would be freaking out! Don't worry about seeing a bunch of them here-you will be in the wrong part of the stte for that-mostly
lisar replied: OMG.... Its kinda funny, but not really. I wouldnt have even went into the room. And if dh wasnt there I would have been staying somewhere else. Not there.
At least he wants to send those guys some bug spray though. Thats sweet
Crystalina replied: I can handle anything but anything with a beetle body and hairy spiders!!!!!
Our Lil' Family replied: Not if they start crawling all over your sleeping body!
DillsMommy replied: Uhhh--I would no longer be able to sleep. I'd probably just give up the whole sleeping thing altogether. A chance one could be crawling across me without me knowing! Colt is my hero! I would have cried like a baby.
Danalana replied: Monica, I don't care if they don't normally sting people--or that they feed on rodents and scorpions and whatever...RUN!!!!! They are big spiders with HAIR!! I seriously would have trouble staying there anymore. Can't you just take off for Texas later today?
redchief replied: Heheh... the tarantulas in TX are too busy fighting the scorpions to bother with you.
Sorry.
The only place I've ever seen a tarantula was in a terrarium.
A&A'smommy replied: OMG I would have FREAKED!!!! What a sweet little guy
stella6979 replied: Ahhhhh, I would have screamed like a little girl! Colt is so funny though.
luvmykids replied: See, scorpions I can handle, I've already been bit by one so at least I know what I'm up against....It's the unknown I can't handle
Macie's teacher gave me a whole lecture on tarants this morning. Apparantly we are in a key spot in their migration pattern to Mexico. She asked me to catch the next one, I said "Uh, I was hoping that was a freak thing and there won't be a next one"
bawoodsmall replied: exactly!!!!!!! Thats why I hate them the most. They crawl around on you while you are sleeping. Nasty.....
Crystalina replied: Oh H*** No!!!
luvmykids replied: Are you SERIOUS?
HuskerMom replied: If I'm asleep then I don't care, as long as I don't know their there. Unless they're really big, then they can just stay away from me.
I've killed a bunch of wolf spiders in our basement. Most have been small, but a couple have been about 3 inches wide. Then I have to get Dh to kill them. But he just lets them loose outside.
