OMG, am I the only one?
MyBrownEyedBoy wrote: I've been reading responses to my monitor question and now I have to wonder if I am the only one who still has a two and a half year old in a crib. He's never tried to climb out. And he's small so he still fits fine. Anyone else keep them in a crib this long?
lisar replied: Raygen will be 2 next month. She is still in her crib. My plan is to get into the new house. Let her get comfortable with the new place and then turn her crib into the toddler bed. (it goes into one)
PrairieMom replied: I switched Ben over at 18 months. No reason except I set up the toddler bed in his room just so he could get used to it being there, and he was so pumped about it he slept in it that first night and never looked back. I read some where that you are supposed to keep them in a crib until 3 tho for some reason.
mummy2girls replied: Jenna was almost 3 when she got into one... and that was more for the fact ic ouldnt afford a toddler bed on my nanny salary so i had to wait till aron got her one...
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: My plan has been to keep him in a crib until he was 3 and then switch straight to a real bed, skipping the toddler bed phase. Now I just wonder if I'm doing it wrong or something. For pete's sake, I'm nearly 31. How can I be second guessing myself like this.
hoosier momma replied: We are switching to a twin bed at 16 months. For some reason John Robert has decided that he no longer wants to sleep in his crib. He will sleep in any other bed (with or without me), on the couch, in the playpen or just anywhere but his bed so we are switching. I think it is totally different with every family. Do what you feel is right.
grapfruit replied: You know what, you're the mom, you know your child better then anyone else. TBH it sounds like a good, money saving, plan to me. Go w/what's best for you and your family. If he's not climbing out and knows he shouldn't climb out then I say if it's not broken, don't fix it!
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Thanks, Casey. Motherhood should come with a manual.
coasterqueen replied: I plan to keep Megan in hers til she climbs out herself. This kid gets into EVERYTHING - there's no way I'm giving her free range to the house. She actually likes her crib, though, and it's a "safe" place for her when she has sensory issues. I hate to take that away from her at this point.
I say if he's fine with it, let him be.
hoosier momma replied: I totally agree.
coasterqueen replied: I don't see you doing anything wrong. Sleeping in a crib isn't a bad habit formed that I know of. When he's ready to sleep in a big boy bed he'll tell you .
moped replied: Nooooooooooo, that is great. I have heard that keeping them in til 3 is best - I just moved Jack a couple of months ago and it killed me!!!!!!
ZandersMama replied: zan was 16 months, but it wasn't my choice he just wouldnt stay in it. so i got him a bed and a gate for his bedroom door.
lisar replied: I second that.
lovemy2 replied: Olivia would STILL be in her crib if we hadn't moved and not put it back together for her....Dylan is in it now but she still fits perfectly in it....she LOVED her crib and I would have left her there had we not moved
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Mackenzie is 2.5 and still in her crib! I plan to keep her in as long as I can. It converts to a toddler bed, but I am afraid that when she knows she can get out of it she will want to play all night!
MommyToAshley replied: I moved Ashley to her bed the day before her third birthday. It sounds weird, but she even started preschool while she was in her crib. She never tried to climb out... if she had to go potty in the middle of the night she would just say,"Mom, come get me ... I have to go potty" LOL! I stressed about moving her to a big bed and thought that she would never stay in it, but it was such a smooth transition. I am glad I waited as long as I did.
I second guess myself all the time... I think it is part of being a parent.
Boo&BugsMom replied: We never had a toddler bed for Tanner either. Straight to a big twin bed. He was transitioned by 2, but if you are afraid of falling you can get those rails that go on the side. I always thought those toddler beds were a waste of money! If we had one for Tanner it would have only lasted him about 6 months because he's so big. I don't blame you for not wanting to get one.
Sam & Abby's Mom replied: Sammy is 2-1/2 and still in his crib. Unless he starts trying to climb out,,,we dont plan on putting him in a regular bed until 3ish.
My3LilMonkeys replied: We switched Brooke at 16 months because we needed the crib for Madison. I planned on keeping Madison in a crib for a lot longer but by 18 months she was climbing out of it and giving me a heart attack thinking she was going to break a leg. As long as he's happy with it, I think it's great that he'll stay in it.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Kelly-you are NOT doing anything wrong! My little brother has a BIG crib...I don't even know where my mom found it but it is HUGE and he still would rather sleep in it and he is 5! He fits fine and he gets himself into it my mom has converted it 2 or 3 times and he asks her to put it back with the rails on it....of course they play cap guns-cowboy sherrif and outlaws out the side of it too! So that may have somehting to do with it!

luvmykids replied: I would have gladly left mine in until they went to college if they would have stayed in....all mine came out around 18mos-2years but only because I was afraid of them hurting themselves trying to get out.
I say leave him in as long as he's happy there!
