OMG!!! - epi-pen bill for pa

boyohboyohboy wrote: I just got a call from the senator Orie who is the one who wrote the epi-pen bill currently being considered for the pa senate, and it is going to be introduced NEXT WEEK! due to all the attention it has received lately!
I am working now on writing emails to over 100 people who have emailed these senators offices, but now am asking them to call this week and keep the interest going..

isnt that amazing! I truely feel for the first time little people do matter!
does anyone know how long it can sit on the house floor?
I will have a bill number at the beginning of next week to offer if anyone is interested in watching this bill I hope pass!!!

coasterqueen replied: Well, it usually is introduced before introduction deadline, then goes to Rules committee. If you are lucky, and it sounds like this bill is a big enough one that it would, it will come out of Rules and be assigned to a committee. May be a health committee, insurance committee, not sure. A lot of times bills get introduced and then never see the light of day past Rules committee. In committee it will either get read and favorably reported, read and amended/favorably reported, or tabled, or pushed to be read again. The bill will go through floor action of 3 readings and if it makes it through the 3 readings then it will be sent on to the next house (Senate if it's in the House now). The Senate has to go through the same process, then it gets sent back to it's original house to be re-read/voted on, etc, then sent to the Governor to be signed. That's the quickest jist of it. tongue.gif

coasterqueen replied: BTW, congrats!!!! How exciting!!!! I would set up a gathering of all those who are for the bill and head to the legislature the day it's voted on in the original house. Maybe even set up meetings with any legislator that is in opposition that day to discuss your position - have a position paper (i.e. white paper) with you for them to look at.

boyohboyohboy replied: I get a copy of everything that is discussed in the house and senate emailed to me daily..it is just like what you wrote..really boring and hard to sift thru, but thanks for telling me what headings to look thru.

do you know how to find out karen where it is that this is being discussed? I thought about what you said yesterday about going there the day it passes, how optimistic am I!?! but I would like to go there...

coasterqueen replied:
Stacy - does your state have a website for the legislature?

Like our state legislature website is www.ilga.gov On the page they have a daily calendar for each house. I print those out daily and look through the bills to see what is in committee, on the floor, etc, etc. So you can use those once you get a bill number. You can also search the site by the bill number once you get it and get all the information on that particular bill. We also have audio/video on our state website and I listen to the legislature daily when they are in session. So you have live feed of what is going on, when the bill gets read, etc. I mainly listen to the House, but listen to the Senate when House isn't on.

I know that's impossible for you to do with kids around all day, but maybe listen to them once if your state has that capability. The experience is awesome, but moreso if you were actually there.

lisar replied: I hope it gets thru for you and jake. Let me know if you need me to e-mail anyone. I cant call them as I am at work all day but will be happy to e-mail anyone you would like

coasterqueen replied: Stacy, Here is PA's legislature website, if you don't already have it, but I'm sure you do. http://www.legis.state.pa.us/

They do have live feed, which is awesome. thumb.gif

If you don't mind letting me know the bill number when you get it. I'd love to keep an eye on it myself as well.

boyohboyohboy replied:
Karen, I will absolutely get that number to you as soon as they call me with it.
I might need your help wading thru the political mumbo jumbo!

coasterqueen replied:
No problem, I will do the best I can do. That legal jargon is deafening to me.

Luckily we have a (paid) service in our office that at least gives a short synopsis of each bill.

Just curious, are there other states with laws on the books regarding the epi-pen? Or are there some that have a bill in the legislature now?

lisar replied: Here in florida they are allowed to carry them. Here are some links that might help you.

Read this story and try to contact them if you can, I am sure they can help. These are the people who got it passed here in Florida.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I missed it what is the bill about?

My3LilMonkeys replied: Stacy, if you email or PM me that phone number, I would be glad to call them and keep the interest going - this whole process is very exciting!

boyohboyohboy replied:
This is the website that I use. It has a place to find any of the pa legislatures you are interested in as well as their email and phone numbers.
thank you for helping me.
