OMG! who watched dateline?

Some ran and some stayed. and almost 90 percent of them said ive never done this before! EWWWWW!!!! Online chatting is just so freaky! i dont think i will ever let jenna chat online!

my2monkeyboys replied: Scary and freaky! I didn't see it, but just what you've told me makes my skin crawl. I guess the only way to let kids do anything anymore is to be right there with them.

Stories like this or even the senseless child abuse occuring in Africa every day. Has anyone heard of the men in some of those countries (?) brutally abusing infants as young as (3) mos!!!!-- just to "cleanse" themselves of the AIDS virus??

I cannot believe these sick freaks are out there and can just walk around like its nothing and get away with it time and time again it literally makes me want to I just cant stand it ! holley79 replied: I did watch Dateline. DH recorded it for me. We do sting ops like that at our Sheriff's office. It is horrible. It's not your scum of the Earth that are preying on our youth online it is successful high powered men/ women. It's absolutely sickening. I told DH Annika was NEVER using the computer will she was 50. Parents just need to be more aware of where their kids are online. It's not safe.

amymom replied: I have a 14 year old and it bugs him when I am reading his online chats. It is mostly him and his friends that I know IRL saying "whassup, lol and brb" But I do not care. I want to know who he is talking to and what they are saying. I cannot believe that some kids are allowed to talk freely to these pervs.

I saw only the last 15 mis or so of dateline and it just made me sick. And I am glad some people are working on stopping it. but it is hard to monitor our kids, they have access to the computer at school, the library and friends homes. My son knows what the rules are and (as far as I know) he follows them.

redchief replied: Be sickened, but be educated!!! Scumbags come in all sorts of colors and social flavors. Teach your kids young what is appropriate and what is not. Teach your kids how to avoid these people. Give your children the love and attention they need so that they won't feel the need to go find it on their own.

ITA! If these people looked like the monsters that they ARE they would never get near a child! This issue is something that as a mother scares me and as a person outrages me! It is not just online that these children are preyed upon.It can be at scool,at the local park,and even church. I think it is time for parents,aunts,uncles,grandparents,etc... to stand up and unite and tell our local,state,and federal officials that we are not going to allow molesters to walk out of court or jail with minimal sentences any longer!!! A low risk offerder in my neighborhood-someone who has already proven their worth(lessness) in society-is TOO HIGH a risk for my daughter! Second changes should not be given to pedaphiles!!! IMO!

I whole heartedly agree. Unfortunately we live in a bleeding heart society. Everyone always screams, "Give them another chance, they can change." I'm sorry I do not agree with this. Once a pedophile always one in my book. They are never to be trusted. It is an illness and they are not rehabilitated.

The only thing that we can do as parents, grandparents, etc is to make sure that we watch our children and protect them to the best of our ability. You never know who is sitting/ standing next to you or your child until it's too late at times. Yes, there are tons of lists out there with convicted sex offenders/ predetors on the list. What many don't know is there are plenty that the evidence is stacked against (just as it was 16 years ago in my case) and the ***holes walk away scott free. It is still considered a child's word against an adult's. It's not always strangers either. Someone that is part of the family can also be doing it to someone and no one ever know about it.

Bottom line is everyone needs to be aware. We all know why our parents asked the Who, what, where and when will you be home questions. It wasn't to invade our privacy it was to protect us. All I can hope is that Annika understands the same thing. My stepson is on restriction from the computer. He was "chatting" online and gave out our home number. Plus when I walked into the computer room, which I do ramdomly, he closed out his chat window real quick. What he didn't realize it was all archived.

Ok getting off my now. This is just always a touchy subject for me. I feel like I all the time about it.

Most of the time the child knows them very well thats where the trust comes in with the child and the sicko. Sad but very true

most ppl. dont realize that logs run on IM but only if you choose to do it. that will be in the IM folder and I think its called logs or archives click on that then logs or something like that.

Now there is also programs out there that you can get that will allow you to see where your kids go and if they are chatting you see everything that is being said also wether they are running chat logs or not.
