OMG you would die if you - could see what they cancelled school for
mckayleesmom wrote: Last night they said school would be delayed 2 hours because we were suppose to get 3-4 inches of snow. This morning I woke up and got Mckaylee dressed at regular time because it was only slightly raining and I figured they would cancell the delay. Then right about the time her bus was suppose to come it started flurrying....Her bus never showed so I checked to see if they had kept the delay...NOPE..they cancelled school...This state is hillarious.
Mommy2Isabella replied: Too funny! It was supposed to snow a little here today (SC) well of course it didn't its just FREEZING cold and wet out . But school I think is delayed!
mummy2girls replied: here in Edmonton if it dropped 25 inches buses would still be running and school still on. even if it was 40 below zero it would still be on school would not be cancelled and buses still running. They would just have inside recess
PrairieMom replied: yup. Inside recess for us too. If we canceled school every time we got a flurry or it was below zero, we would never have school! on the flip side, in the spring and early fall if it gets to hot out, a lot of the smaller schools will cancel because the older buildings don't have air conditioning. it has to be HOT tho, like, high 90's. Gotta love SD. We get the best of both worlds. I just wish we would have a longer summer, 9 months of winter sucks!
MommyToAshley replied: I wonder if they were afraid of the rain turning to ice and making for bad road conditions? We've had school cancelled here more for ice than for snow. Things can change quickly and the roads can become very hazardous almost instantly with freezing rain.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Wow it has to be a heavy snowstorm before they will cancel school here. Even when it's -40 c with the windchill the kids still have to go to school. They have indoor recess, so I guess that's good.
lisar replied: If it was to snow 1inch here it would shut everything down. EVERYTHING!!! Its Florida we dont drive in snow. (atleast I dont)
Mommy2Isabella replied: I had a Dr. appt. this morning and I stopped at Chik Fil A for a sandwhich and it was "snowing" some white flakes were coming down, some being like 4. HAHAH! The people inside CFA were like OMGOSH ITS SNOWING! HAHAHAHA
I have family in Indy, so I know SNOW! It is just funny because we don't have weather like this EVER!!
luvmykids replied: Same here, the twins' first day of school here they let out early because of freezing rain.
Celestrina replied: That's the way it was in MD. They would call for the slightest flake and schools would be scheduled two hours late or even cancelled. Today (we're in PA now) there were a lot of schools opening two hours late because of snow from yesterday/last night. We got more than was expected; they had been calling for flurries and we got three inches and just weren't prepared. Our school opened on time - the same one that opened two hours late because it was cold out.
Boo&BugsMom replied: I don't know if there is anyone who lives in South Carolina here, but an old friend of mine lives there (is from Wisconsin originally) and she said school was cancelled today because of the 1-2 inches of snow on the ground. The roads were fine too, but nobody wanted to drive on the snow. She showed me a picture of it too, and I still can't believe they closed.
Boo&BugsMom replied: This is the pic from my friend whose schools were cancelled in SC. Seriously...
mckayleesmom replied: It did finally start to snow, but it was almost 1:30 before it built up and the kids could play in it. They kept asking to play in it and there wasn't enough till then.
There was no freezing ice today...it was fluffy snow. This state needs to man up.
It now kind of looks like that SC picture outside, but its now almost 6. They could have went to school and been back with no problems.
moped replied: Looks like an ideal winter day to me!
PrairieMom replied: winter? it looks like an ideal FALL day to me!
moped replied: Ha, actually yeah you are right - A perfect Fall day!~
PrairieMom replied: yup. sad but true. Around here we have 3 months of summer, 8 1/2 months of winter, and about a week each of spring and fall in between.
A&A'smommy replied: WHAT???? they never canceled school for us when I lived there the only time they did we had a LITERAL snow storm and you couldn't see two feet in front of you. It use to snow like crazy when I lived there every year probably not more than 4 inches at a time (of course that was good for my parents because before that we had lived in germany where they got for real snow). But anyway I saw on one of my friends FB that it had snowed in Sumter, Sc
Boo&BugsMom replied: I know. Kind of crazy how the roads are perfectly CLEAR.
