It's a speech Obama gave yesterday about fathers. I think it says alot about who he is. Yes, I know he's a politician, yes I know you can't believe everything politicians say, yes, I know he's not perfect, yada yada yada. The reason I'm posting this is b/c I've heard alot of people on this board refer to him as "scary", which sort of left me scratching my head. I am quite certain nothing I say will change anyone's mind in the long run. My intention is simply to provide a primary source of information- these are his own words concerning his personal history as it relates to the larger picture of American fatherhood. For once, it's not some talking head or pundit twisting things around to serve their own dogmatic agendas. Make of it what you will.

MommyToAshley replied: I saw the speech on Fox News yesterday. It was a great speech... He is a very charismatic speaker and you don't quite get the same feel from reading it as you do hearing him speak. I don't think this speech will sway me one way or another, but it was a good message to get out.

I like to listen to all the candidates, not just the ones from my own political party. Thanks for the link for anyone that missed it.

This is not true.

That was a great speech. thumb.gif

stella6979 replied:
Hmmm....I've seen a photo that shows him not placing his hand over his heart and snopes confirms it's a real photo. dunno.gif

Crystalina replied:
No, that is very true. I watched the video on that one. It explains why he didn't (not that there is a real good explanation unless your missing your arm happy.gif ) but I'm pretty sure that was the only time and everyone jumped on it and now says he "never" does.

stella6979 replied:
Exactly. wink.gif

MommyToAshley replied: Here's the snopes page: http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp

At the bottom it talks about the pledge, and the incident was actually the National Anthem.

Crystalina replied:
Yes! Thank you. I knew it was something that he had an excuse for. There is no "rule" saying you have to hold your hand on your heard during the National Anthem. Some do, some don't. It *is* respectful to take off your hat and that's when some men hold it over their chest/heart area.

My2Beauties replied: That was a very moving speech! smile.gif

Danalana replied: I saw the speech and it was a good one. It doesn't make me like him more, but he was very right about what he said. I wonder if they were his words or if somebody wrote it for him...I know there are speech writers for the president, but I don't know about senators/presidential candidates.

stella6979 replied:
Ya, I know there is no rule, it's just something that urks me.

I'm currently letting it load so it doesn't buffer 1/2 way through. So I haven't listened to it yet tongue.gif

Crystalina replied:
Oh I'm sure someone writes their speeches for them. I'm sure they have a lot of say so as to what is written but I'm also sure they have a few people helping them. I think they would have to unless they just said the same speech over and over again.
