Ok, I'm not just irresponsible - There really is a reason
luvmykids wrote: I don't wake up in the mornings!!!! I think I told you guys I can't wake up to an alarm clock, never have....so my mom had been calling to wake me up in the mornings but for the last few days I haven't even heard the phone (although she called 16 times yesterday )
Anyway, I really really hate this about myself, I feel like a flake and a loser because it affects so much (like getting the kids to school on time, or in the past lots of trouble at work) but MIL had to go to a sleep clinic and she mentioned it to the dr....there are some sleep disorders where your cycles are backwards so you are in the deepest stages in the morning, or where your body doesn't produce enough of the sleep/wake hormones to regulate your sleep cycles.
I don't know if I do in fact have any of these, but I can't tell you how relieved I am to find out that it could be a real, genuine sleep disorder rather than me just being lazy or something
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Monica, I think the issue is that you're online at 1am... with me...
i can't wake up in the morning either. Dh has to literally kick me out of bed... or have the kids jump on me.
luvmykids replied: LOL no thats a different problem
This has been going on since I was a teenager, and it doesn't matter if I go to bed at 8pm or 1am, I flat out don't hear a thing from alarm clocks to phones...the only thing that wakes me up is the kids (thank God) but unfortunately they don't wake up early enough for us to get anywhere on time
lisar replied: Well its nice to know your not just lazy.... I never thought you were. I have the hardest time waking up. I hit the snooze button for an hour before I actually get out of bed.
CantWait replied: Monica, I don't think it's laziness at all. You wouldn't be admitting to a problem if that were the case.
I didn't realize there were so many reasons behind sleep disorders, makes me think I should get checked for my insomnia.
mckayleesmom replied: I think we fall into sleep patterns that are hard to break. When I was in highschool....I was a better day sleeper then a night sleeper....Now Im not good at either.
luvmykids replied: There was one I saw online, it said it's commonly mistaken for insomnia but is actually called Delayed Cycle Disorder or something....I'll see if I can find that link for you.
Mommy2Isabella replied: Sal has some kind of sleep deal too, we have a special alarm clock, it VIBRATES and has a flashing red light that goes off until you turn it off ... URGH ... scares the CRAP out of me every morning !!! Maybe you would benefit from one of those, I call it a mini daily heart attack ...
mckayleesmom replied: My sister and bil wouldn't wake up if a bomb went off...They don't even hear their own daughter crying when she is in a crib in their room. One night I heard the baby and went in....she was drenched from head to toe..practically floating away in pee. They were both within feet of her sound asleep....It would be impossible to wake them up so I just took her and changed her myself...I have no clue how long she had been crying before I heard her...the kids had the tv on and it drowned her out. She was mighty ticked off though. In the morning my sister asked my mom if she changed the baby and my mom told her it was probably me.
They are just dead sleepers.
A&A'smommy replied: Monica I don't think your lazy but it does sound like your sleep paterns are messed up Are you going to talk to someone about it?
Calimama replied: I was going to suggest that too. They make other (besides sound) alarms that go off for the deaf. Maybe that would wake you up?
luvmykids replied: Yes, now that I know there are so many reasons it could be....this has seriously been a problem as long as I can remember, and really bothered me for years and years.
sparkys2boys replied: yup I am thinking this could be the problem..lol
luvmykids replied: Marie, here is the link that talks about one that is commonly thought of as insomnia Sleep info
Boo&BugsMom replied: Monica, laziness is hearing the alarm, turning it off 10 times, and going back to sleep. Laziness has nothing to do with an inability to hear something in your sleep.
DillsMommy replied: Could your DH wake you up when he gets up. Or maybe have the kids get up to an alarm and they could come in and wake you up? Just a thought. I have the opposite problem, I'm such a light sleeper--everything wakes me up. So annoying! You're not lazy.
luvmykids replied: He's out of town and I always ask him to call and wake me up, which he does, but he doesn't have the patience my mom does He calls and if I don't answer, he goes about his business but my mom will call over and over and over until I answer
I think I've passed it on to my kids, they wanted alarm clocks and got them for Christmas....they sleep right through them too, and they go to bed between 8-8:30
Sometimes I do sort of wake up....the other day I woke up enough to look at the tv and SWEAR I saw that we were on a two hour snow delay. We weren't
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I shouldn't laugh, but that was pretty funny! Did the kids keep sleeping too?
I'm reading a book right now which talks a lot about natural herbs you can take to help you sleep better, also things to give you a natural "high" instead of coffee. Things that have no side affects. I wonder if there is something to take that will help you wake up, but also sleep at night. I will let you know. I don't think you are lazy!!!
luvmykids replied: Yes, that was about 6am (I think ) and when they came down I said we could be late b/c of the snow (which we really did get, just not enough for a delay) so they all got in bed with me and we all fell back asleep
My kids are the same way, I'm pretty sure they get plenty of sleep but boy are they hard to wake up
I'd love to hear if you find anything in that book, I might try melatonin again just to see if it puts me in the deeper phases earlier in the night.
Brias3 replied: Wow! That's interesting to know- I had no idea there could be a sleep disorder associated with that.
msoulz replied: Perhaps you just live in the wrong time zone! That's my official diagnosis anyway.
I have the same issue, I am SO not a morning person, but if I lived in the pacific time zone instead of the eastern it would be perfect. So a little move across the country or to another country could be just what you need!!
Yeah, easier said than done, but it does make some sense!!
