Ok..I'm trying REALLY hard Not to freak..

I don't understand. Last dr apt the doctor told me everything looked fine. He did say I would have to have another u/s b/c the way the baby was positioned they couldn't get ALL of the measurements that they needed, but that everything looked good. He also said of course that I have placenta previa and would have to continue having u/s anyhow to make sure my placenta moves.
Okay so my DH just now got the mail and I opened my statement from the dr's office. normally I don't even look at them, but I knew something got screwed up with my insurance last time and the dr's office had me with a balance of $300 which I knew was wrong b/c my insurance should cover everything at 100%..so they told me at the dr's office not to pay it and to call my insurance company..I did and so when I got this statement tonight I just HAPPENED to look at it to make sure the insurance company had paid the doctor...and they had..but I reviewed it closely. Okay..on to the part that is FREAKING ME OUT.....
Listed on the invoice from the doctor is says:
ultrasound screening for malformation (okay I know what that is..just the 20 wk u/s)
then it says:
POS: 11 additional diagnosis DX: Pregnancy poor fetal Growth
Okay...THAT FLIPS ME THE HECK OUT...I wish I'd opened this tomorrow so I could call..I'm never going to go to sleep tonight! I'm hoping that this is the doc's way of setting up a reason for the additional u/s needed in the future or something since my insurance company only pays for 2/pregnancy unless medically necessary. I completely trust my dr and would like to think that if something was wrong he would have told me..but then my mind races and thinks..well..maybe he wants to wait a month and remeasure to make sure before he says anything to upset me..I don't know!!! I mean, you'd think there would be a code for everything..so why not use the code for placenta previa?
My3LilMonkeys replied: Oh I would be freaking out too - how scary! I hope you get it all straightened out when you call tomorrow.
MyLuvBugs replied: Nichole it's going to be ok. Just calm down a little, and remember it's just a silly piece of paper, ok? I'm sure the baby is just fine. Call first thing in the morning, and talk with your DR. I'm sure it's just a stupid way to allow you to get another U/S like you said.
Jamison'smama replied: Oh my goodness, I'm sure it is just a diagnosis to get more tests or even a mistake when they wrote down the diagnosis code. There is no reason the doctor would have kept that from you. I know I would be stressing too ---pregnancy brings out all the worries! Hang in there and try to relax--sending loads of hugs and positive thoughts.
MommyToAshley replied: I am pretty sure a doctor would be obligated to tell you if something was wrong. I don't think he would have the choice of keeping it from you.
Try to relax, and call your doc's office tomorrow. Let us know how it goes.
3_call_me_mama replied: Hugs and hang in there. If it is really buggin you, go online and look up 20 week fetal development and see what weight adn length should be and compare it to what you were told at teh appt your baby girl weighed and measured. (if you remember) generally it should be somewhat close to what it says in teh fetal development. If it is greatly different then it might mean somethings up but otherwise it's fine. Let us knwo what teh dr says.
ediep replied: I am sure that it is just the papwer, not the real diagonis
Praying for you!!!
Keep us posted
gr33n3y3z replied: Its prolly worded that way so he can get more US done on you with out having to fight with the Insurance company so everything is covered But he should have told you Let us know what the office says
coasterqueen replied: Calm down and just call your doctor. I'm really suprised they put that kind of information on there anyways. I've never gotten a doc bill or an insurance statement with a a diagnosis, etc written that way. They are usually all in code.
KUP.
Kaitlin'smom replied: Okay I would freek also, but call them before you freek to much. maybe just a typo or a way for them to get more of them payed for. either way try and RELAX to you have all the information.
luvmykids replied: I agree completely. Insurance companies can be tricky, even if there is a code for placenta previa your insurance may not see that as cause for regular ultrasounds. Let us know what you find out.
DVFlyer replied: I would be freaking out too, but I'm sure it will be straightened out.
My guess is that those are "codes" that are preprogrammed into the computer. When they have to pick reasons for more tests and such, they have to use a code for billing. If they can't take a measurement because of positioning or whatever, perhaps the closest code is "poor fetal growth".
Good luck.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: ITA...I'm sure it's because they had to pick something from the computer so that you could get another US.
Any updates?? P&PTs!!!!!
jcc64 replied: Try to stay calm, Nichole. Drs do not withhold bad news to "protect" you- that's lawsuit material, hon. I'm sure it's a generic dx that ob's use all the time to avoid the hassles involved with ordering extra ultrasounds and/or insurance reimbursements or something like that. If there was a problem, they'd tell you. They told you about the placenta, didn't they?
redchief replied:
Exactly what I was going to say. We've had quite a few tests for.... on our insurance statements that turned out to be how the docs get approvals for additional testing they want to do even if they suspect no problems.
kimberley replied: hang in there. i am sure it is just fine.
A&A'smommy replied: hey girl goodness did you get ahold of your doctor today??? I'm sure everything is fine!!
Boys r us replied: They called me back...and said that it's nothing to worry about it was just a code he selected as another reason for a follow-up u/s so insurance would pay. They apologized for upsetting me and reassured me that if there was EVER the slightest cause for concern about anything that the dr would tell me immed. & she also said she gets at least 5 calls a day from people like me who see this on their statement!
Boys r us replied: Karen these have codes on them like 645.3 then out beside the # I am guessing it's a description of the code., which is where it said poor fetal growth.
amynicole21 replied: Well good. I'm glad they put your mind at ease!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Nichole I'm glad everything turned out to be okay. That's so scary.
coasterqueen replied: I'm glad everything is ok.
Yeah, our statements have codes on them and then doctor type terms, but never lamen terms. That's why I was shocked that they had something like that on there. IMO if they are getting that many calls they should change it Why would they worry pregnant women like that? That's just plain awful.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I'm so glad it turned out to be nothing ~ what a scary thing to see! I would have been freaking out too.
