Ok...lawn mowing experts
mckayleesmom wrote: Whenever I mow it looks like the lawn has stripes....How do I stop that?
PrairieMom replied: I think its supposed to have stripes. Ours always does. doesn't yours? we mow on the diagonal, its supposed to make the grass look greener.
coasterqueen replied: Hmmm, are you mowing in a big circle (square) type pattern or up, down, up,down? That last one is hard to explain. I see less stripes when I mow in a square pattern than if I go diagonal up, down, up, down. I dunno. I don't pay attention to them - I just mow and be glad it's done. Especially after having to mow for SEVERAL hours at a time.
mckayleesmom replied: I mow up and down.....back and forth....
coasterqueen replied: Yeah, that's what I meant. I guess I say up, down, up, down because most areas I mow are hilly. Try mowing in a square pattern - I think it has less stripes that way. I have so much to mow that I break up the areas of our land in squares (or what I call "lots").
My3LilMonkeys replied: It's because you're mowing in 2 different directions (up and down). To eliminate the stripes, you'd have to mow up, come back to the beginning, mow up, etc. Or if you mow around the perimeter, working your way in, they won't be as noticeable.
TheOaf66 replied: when you go back and forth, it cuts the blades of the grass in the opposite direction
luvmykids replied: Ditto....Same thing as when you vacuum, the rows where you go one direction look a little different than the ones you go the other direction.
MommyToAshley replied: what she said.
I always thought you were supposed to alternate how you cut the grass, up-down one time, diagonal the next time. Anyways, I think the grass looks better with the stripes.
Of course, I shouldn't be answering this thread, I am by no means an expert... I've only cut the grass one time in my entire life.
Our Lil' Family replied: I love stripes in the lawn! I beg DH to cut it this way, but he normally does a square....I'd probably be ecstatic if he did diagonal. Reminds me of a baseball field!!!
My2Beauties replied: I think it looks better this way.
But what do I know, I've never ever mowed a lawn in my life
redchief replied: You have the wrong blade on your mower. You have to exchange the striped blade for whatever one you like best. We prefer the polka-dot blade.
Just kidding... What Troy said.
msoulz replied: LOL!! Now THAT would be cool!!
