Once a gap, always a gap? - kids teeth

amynicole21 wrote: Nora has a rather sizeable gap between her two front teeth. Her teeth aren't all the way in yet, but Sophia's never had a gap at this age. Several of DH's family members have had to get help for the gaps in their teeth - and some of them left it the way it was... blink.gif Not pretty. unsure.gif

Is it possible that when her adult teeth come in that she won't have such a big gap there?

TheOaf66 replied: absolutely, it can go either way you just have to kind of wait it out.

Liz_Kaitlyns_Mama replied: Growing up I had a pretty good sized gap...I was so embarressed by it but after 20 years, it's finally almost closed. My two front teeth are slightly larger than the rest but you can't tell. The gap is about - big now, literally. I'll see if I can find a pic of me and my gap.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Everyone on DH's side of the family (well at least his mom's side) has a gap, so when I saw it on Wil too, I freaked a bit. But I've noticed that his little teeth are starting to push together the more they grow in. If family has it, yes, I imagine our kids will have it too, but you never know for sure. Start saving for braces I guess...I know I am! dry.gif

Jamison'smama replied: Jamison had a gap....no gap now smile.gif

ediep replied: all of Jasons teeth are pretty spaced apart but my cousin, who is a dentist, said that gaps in baby teeth are ok, because it leaves room for the big teeth to come in.

MyLuvBugs replied: Yes it's very plausible that the gap will close when the adult teeth come in. Until then, I wouldn't worry too much about it. And if it doesn't, you can always get braces to pul the teeth closed.

JP&KJMOM replied: Amy I tihnk it depends on the kid. I always had a gap growing up but by the time I hit about 16 it started growing together. I think it is just a waiting game for awhile.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: I had perfect teeth until my wisdom teeth came in. Then they got all bunched up, and now my two middle teeth are fine, the two next to them are crooked, and my two middle bottom teeth are a little over the other.

Zach has a decent gap in his front teeth - Emilie has perfectly straight teeth.

DH had horrible teeth as a child - they were very very crooked, almost straight out. Needless to say, he got braces.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I hope so! Andrew has a big gap between his top front teeth too. I'm hoping that when he gets his permanent teeth it won't be there. wacko.gif

I agree

coasterqueen replied: Hmm, not sure. Kylie has a huge gap but it's because she has a ton of room in her mouth like her father. Megan doesn't have enough room for all her teeth to come in, like I did. I suspect both of them will have to have lots of orthodonics so I'm not even thinking about it anymore. happy.gif

kimberley replied: i agree with the others. what their baby teeth look like gives you zero indication of what their adult teeth will be like. jacob had gaps and a couple of crooked teeth as a baby and now has perfectly straight adult teeth. (of the ones he has)

CantWait replied: Actually having a gap in their teeth as children is actually better for their development.

Robbie doesn't have a gap in his teeth and he's had to get his teeth shaved many times and have space maintainers put in so that the rest of his teeth have enough room to grow in.

b&bsmom replied: My dd has a gap, she has had it since her baby teeth fell out. the dentist wanted to wait and see what happened when her baby teeth fell out and the new ones grew in. Unfortnately it looks like she is going to need some work done to close the gap. Her teeth are not coming in the way we would have hoped.

My sister had the gum hanging down between her teeth in the front to make her gap so they cut it and then did work to close the gap.

Hope that helps.

~~*Missi*~~ replied: I had a HUGE gap like laura hutton or madonna big and mine closed sorta.... its still there and noticeable but nothing like it was when i was 15 or even 5

Honestly leave it and see how it goes that is what my mom did cause you or she can always have caps or veneers put on later in life if its that big of a issue... I love mine cause its different
