Online Classes!?!

A&A'smommy wrote: What do ya'll think about online classes? Would you actually do the work or would you forget about it? My dh is going to try it next semester. I am happy about it because he will be home more to help out with the baby plus he wont have to worry about not getting any sleep and then having to get up early to go to school. I really want to go to school...i dont want to stay at home because i dont think i would get the work done! But the only schools that i would want to go to are an hour from here and i dont know if i would be able to do that with a one year old and a husband that has school and works full time. I would probably leave her with my mom and SIL that is dying to keep her (she keeps kids at her house) but that would still be a hand full...i dont know what to do...

maestra replied: I have taken two other classes online, am taking one now, and have two more planned (at least). I will probably get my whole master's degree online. It's much easier for me than regular classes, because deadlines are usually set at midnight, and I can turn in and finish things when Jaci's asleep. There's usually a lot of discussion forums, much like the one we have here. I rather like the online classes. I take mine through

kit_kats_mom replied: I received my BA via distance learning from FSU in Library & Information Studies. My DH got his Masters in the same program via distance learning.

I worked full time the entire time I was taking classes and the most classes I ever took at one time was 3. You just have to be organized and make sure to not miss chats/discussion board postings and assignments. I found that it is great if you have good writing skills. I can't imagine how it would be if you didn't have those skills though. Since the profs can't see if you are paying attention, most of the work involves writing. Lots of essay questions etc so that you can't just open the book and cheat, you actually have to know the stuff. It was hard & honestly I can't say that I learned as much as I would have if I was in class but it worked for me.

A&A'smommy replied: my MIL does it through AIU and she likes it, but she is ALL the time having dh and my SIL help her with her homework because she doesnt have good writing skills LOL but she is doing pretty good or so she says. My BIL is also doing it but LOL LOL he FORGOT to do a test LOL. And he NEVER does homework well at first anyways he is getting a LOT better at it now. I dont think i would ever want to do it, i want to experience the classroom and have other people around or at least i want to try going to classes but if that doesnt work out i guess i could always take online classes....maybe i dont think you can learn theater online nor would i want to try okay now im just babbling so im going to go. Im going to watch "Armageddon" the whole thing i have only seen bits a pieces okay ttyl love ya'll!!!

aspenblue1 replied: I was thinking of switching to online classes. I take classes in the class room now. I hate fighting through the traffic to get to class. I have to go about 40 minutes not including traffice jams to get to class.

MommyToAshley replied: My brother takes online classes through his college and loves them. When I went to college, they didn't have the online courses, but they had video courses. You really have to have self-discipline and organization. (which I did not possess when I took the course) I was up the entire night before the final exam watching all 16 videos! Plus, I kind of missed having the class discussions, just a personal preference.

You might try taking one online class along with your other classes and see how you like it. If you like it, you can always switch to online classes the following quarter.

Birdy replied: My dd is taking a forensic course online with barnes and noble university.. she's enjoying it so far. Only in to it a week though.

coasterqueen replied: I did some online classes in college! They were great because you didn't have to go sit in a classroom. I was lucky and could do most of the work at work, lol. I would say go for them!

asharene replied: I did about half of my associate degree and all of my bachelor degree online - Baker College of Flint. I am now looking at a master's degree program through Depaul University in Chicago. I loved it. My daughter hated when I had to leave her with Nana to go to class (don't get me wrong, she LOVES her Nana). I would not have finished without the online. I tried to start a Master's Degree on campus at night, but it is too hard with a kid in first grade, everyone's cranky by the time the semester is over. I highly recommend online classes.

MommyToAshley replied:
Thanks for sharing your experience. I think the online classes are great too. I don't think my brother would be able to attend full time, so these work out perfect for him. He's able to work them into his schedule a lot easier.

I also wanted to take a moment and say Hello and welcome you to parenting club! So, how many children do you have? How old?

I am Dee Dee, btw... I have a DD named Ashley that is almost 18 months old. It's nice to meet you!

asharene replied: Asha Renee wub.gif is a newly-minted 7 year old, with all of the sass and spunk required of a first grader. She is my only child, I am a single mom. She is beautiful and fun and smart, I can't believe I had a hand in creating this wonderful person!

She just started ballet this year, she seems to like that, but I think she would rather be playing basketball or soccer, she's quite a tomboy!

Mechelle73 replied: I am taking an online Medical Transcription course through www.mtacc.net
I absolutely love it. It's so nice to be able to do the work in my own home, rather
than having to sit in a class room. I am learning so much doing it on my own.
