Our TV free challenge
PrairieMom wrote: Well, I decided to go TV free for my kids this summer. So, No TV while they are awake. After bed time, its fair game. Thank goodness for DVR.
So, Day one: It went really really well. the kids never even missed it. We got dressed after breakfast, went out to the yard to play, ran to the grocery store, ate lunch out on the back deck, Al went down for her nap, and Ben did a little home summer school work, then played a while, and helped me in the garden. After Al's nap we visited grandma and grandpa, came home, ate dinner, and I am about to throw them in the tub. Sucess!
lovemy2 replied: Its a good thing your kids won't remember all the trauma you are putting them through - no meat, no TV, what's next no toys
HA HA - only kidding - I give you all the credit in the world...but now I am scared all this started after you took the Dave Ramsey thing and I am starting tomorrow
WTG Tara - you are super Mommy
Boo&BugsMom replied: We were tv free for two weeks (aside from a few dvd's) when we got rid of our satellite. It really wasn't so bad. It was actually nice...for them, that is. I think it did the kids some good.

CantWait replied: Tara I plan on doing this somewhat once school is out. Right now I know Anthony has a hard time in school so when he gets home I allow it, but there's too much time in the day and it's just too nice to spend it in front of tube. I give kudos to you.
mom21kid2dogs replied: I have a few friends that haven't had a TV for decades. Nobody died Good luck with it!!!

PrairieMom replied: dave had nothing to do with this one. I just got to thinking one day about how precious our short time with our children is. It is REALLY what life is all about. I hate the idea that I am wasting all this time watching things that don't even matter on TV.
So, its off during the hours when the kids are awake. They don't need it.
lovemy2 replied: You are so right Tara and I have to say you have motivated me to "turn off the tube" I have to say I won't be doing it 100% but we are going to have designated NO TV TIMES - starting tomorrow - it is much easier this time of year since we are outside alot -
luvmykids replied: Christine, we have designated no tv times too, and it works really well for us We've gone without tv at all for periods too, but we get too cranky to do it for good
PrairieMom replied: yeah!!!! i just keep thinking that is it such a waste of precious life time. It scares me to look back and realize that I never lived life when I had the chance.
PrairieMom replied: DAY 2
those stinkers never even asked about tv. This is just proving that they don't really want it either. We spent the day running some errands, and then we went to the zoo. A little Home summer school in the afternoon, and then playing in the yard while I worked in the garden.
