POLL: Family tradition - has anyone heard of this?
jaytrevjax wrote: Well, yesterday was my sisters 21st birthday. Ever since we were kids we have done this thing with birthday gifts. You say:
Heavy heavy hangover Thy poor head What do you wish with a bump on the head?
(Wow, I've never really noticed how strange those words are for a childs game until now! LOL!)
Then you take your gift and bump them on the head and they have to make you a wish before they open it.
We have always done it (even now that we are older) but all of our husbands (3 of the 6 of us are married) think it is the funniest thing they have ever seen! I have to admit, it is kind of funny, but we were talking, and we can't think of any one else who does it! Am I crazy! Thanks for the input!
my2monkeyboys replied: That's funny... I've never heard of that.
luvbug00 replied: Hilarious~!
CantWait replied: I'd be surprised if you got one yes answer. That is one of the strangest and funniest things I've ever heard
3xsthefun replied: That is pretty funny! No, I have never heard of that one before.
kit_kats_mom replied: sorry. you are a freak-o! And so is your family! J/K but that is funny
AlexsPajamaMama replied: That's part of a child's game?!
I must agree, it is a very wierd tradition! I have never heard of it before.
kayla's mama replied: Well that sure is different...I have never heard of that one!!!!
amymom replied: Can you ask your parents where it came from?
Nope I never heard of it.
huggybugboy replied: Never heard of it but I think its kind of cute! I love quirky family traditions. DHs family has a tradition where on a childs 3rd birthday the family gets together and draws tattoos all over the kid. I've got some really cute pics of Josh in a diaper with sailor tattoos.
Ashlynn's Mommy replied: I've never heard of that. But it is nice to make your own traditions.
Amanda replied: I don't say it, but my friend from elementary did. Her family moved from England when she was in 2nd grade. They said that phrase, but the words were a little different.
"Heavy heavy hangs over thy head. What do you wish for this person with a bump on the head?"
She talked about it at show-and-tell once, but I can't remember anything more than the words.
CantWait replied: That's interesting also. How did his family come up with that?
ashtonsmama replied: Ummm...I'm going with no!
CantWait replied: That sounds a little more normal. Sorta.
C&K*s Mommie replied:
I had not heard of either before this.
huggybugboy replied: no idea
MommyToAshley replied: HAHA! Nope...never heard of it.
That sounds a little better for a kids game. But still pretty funny.
holley79 replied: Funny but no.
lesliesmom replied: We used to do something like that but ours went
Heavy, heavy hang over your head What are you going to do with it?
And then you were supposed to try and guess what was in the package...
I always knew my family was a little odd but I guess this just proves it, huh
coasterqueen replied: Nope.
