PRAY SOMEWHERE ELSE PEOPLE

mckayleesmom wrote: Ok....I hate walmart anyways, but the last thing I want when I go there is a group of 15 people blocking an isle as they stop to pray......come on people...Out of my way.

They wouldn't even move so people could get by. Then...I go down a different isle and run into them again having a nice chit chat fest. What do I need a cattle prod??? growl.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied: Do you mean praying? Like Our Father type thing? huh.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
Ya...sorry....they weren't eating anybody..... laugh.gif

Anthony275 replied: wal-mart is always crowded in the evenings

Calimama replied: What did they say when people said, "excuse me"? That usually gets people to move for me. happy.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
They ignored them and continued to Pray.

Can a mod please correct my spelling in the title.

punkeemunkee'smom replied:
wink.gif Done

Why were they praying in an isle? That is just odd to me...

Calimama replied:
Ditto. unsure.gif

mckayleesmom replied:
It was odd to me too.

My3LilMonkeys replied:
I find when you say 'excuse me' most people at Walmart act like they didn't hear you. I don't know what it is about Walmart that seems to bring out the worst in people. rolleyes.gif

Anthony275 replied: uhhh i dont get it

Calimama replied:
Oh. That reminds me why I never go. emlaugh.gif

punkeemunkee'smom replied:
rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif I am sorry I just can't figure it out! I am all for praying but I am confused as to why they would do it in an asile and then be so rude as to not move when asked...I probably would have said 'Lord could you please ask these nice people to move before my ice cream melts....YOu know how much I like frozen ice cream Lord...' rolling_smile.gif emlaugh.gif

Calimama replied:
Oh goodness, you're too funny. rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

MoonMama replied: huh.gif Wal-Mart really is full of all "kinds" of people. laugh.gif

MoonMama replied:
How did I miss this. emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: OH MY GOSH!!! I have tears running down my face!!! laugh.gif rolling_smile.gif My husband thinks I've lost it.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: No offense to anyone, but I refuse to shop there anymore. It's my new years resolution. I used to love it for the prices, but the wierdness isn't worth it to me anymore. Those neon lights seriously put a number on some people!!

Celestrina replied:
Are you saying he'd be wrong? tongue.gif (j/k)

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
I'm refusing to shop there anymore too. Ours is always so disorganized, messy, the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. It doesn't help that a new Super Wal-Mart is going up now dry.gif . I KNOW DH is going to want to go there when it opens.

Target is MUCH better, even if the prices are a bit higher. It's worth it to me.

EDIT: I have NO IDEA why anyone would stop to pray in the middle of an aisle. I'm not religious to begin with, and that would seriously annoy the heck out of me mad.gif .

Hillbilly Housewife replied: were they facing east at least..... wacko.gif

I don't understand how religion can impact your life so much that you have to stop in a walmart to pray. I mean... postpone your trip half an hour, ya know?

sparkys2boys replied:
rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: how weird, I dont like shopping there at all, I advoid it as much as I can. I probable woudl have YELLED EXCUSE ME and if the did not move who knows what i might have said.

lisar replied:
LOL......

jcc64 replied: Maybe they're praying to be delivered from the heinous experience of shopping there.

mommy~to~a~bunch replied:
rolling_smile.gif Oh, probably!! Ugh, Wal-Mart sucks!!

Mommy2BAK replied: Maybe they weren't together and ran into someone who told them that they were facing losing a family member or something and they felt led to pray right then and there. I've prayed in Wal-Mart before, but I don't believe that you have to necisarily bow your head and close your eyes, the Lord hears your prayers no matter what the circumstance. But if someone is praying I definately wouldn't want to disrepect that.

Crystalina replied:
I always pray in Wal-Mart. More then in church actually. I pray that I can get out of their without strangling somebody.

TheOaf66 replied: were they muslim or something?

I have prayed in Walmart before for God to give me the strength to not kill someone who thinks the isle is a perfect place to walk 5 steps and stop with their cart and just stand there(slowly I might add)

BAC'sMom replied: Personally I think you should be able to pray anywhere you want. Rather it is in a field under a tree or in the toy section at Wal-Mart. I too have prayed at Wal-Mart I have prayed to get in the faster lane, prayed that I didn’t forget anything on my list, and I have prayed that the screaming kid 5 aisles over would just shut up.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Ditto. I pray a lot of places, but never have I thought to just stop in the middle of an aisle with a bunch of friends and do it. unsure.gif huh.gif Could you hear what they were saying? I'm just curious what would have them do this. I'm all for praying whenever you want, but I do think it's rude to just make a blockade of people in a store. They could have taken it outside or something, ya know?

Boo&BugsMom replied:
That's a good point. That is why I'm curious to know what they were saying. Hum...

Hillbilly Housewife replied: NOTHING wrong with praying in walmart... just something wrong with standing in a group and blocking the path of others. I'm sure those of you who've prayed in walmart weren't oblivious to your surroundings and in other peoples' way.....

Cece00 replied:
hahahahahahaha. I love this.

Cece00 replied:
Sure ppl can pray wherever they want, but GTFO of the aisle, KWIM?? Some ppl have things to do & dont need to be held up for a couple of minutes if someone else wants to pray. Step off somewhere where you wont be in the way so ppl can continue on with their day.

BAC'sMom replied:
Not to worry Crystal I always GTFO of the aisle and leave a clear path wink.gif

Just out of curiosity do any of you get annoyed if you get behind someone who walks slower, are elderly or possibly handicapped? Do you have patience for them or do you want them to just get out of your way too?

Danalana replied: I agree with TAM...I highly doubt these people just go to wal-marts across the land and block up aisles while they pray. Personally, I'd rather see people praying than just standing there, having a family reunion and blocking the aisle. I think it's awesome they weren't ashamed to pray in public. Sure, it would annoy me if they didn't move but, as mentioned before, we have no idea what the situation was. Seriously, there's lots worse things they could have been doing besides praying. I do understand your frustration at them blocking the aisle, but I find lots of blocked aisles, period. Some people just run into people they haven't seen in 100 years and wanna chat and they don't move either.

Anthony275 replied: next time im in wal-mart im going to run through the isles with my arms sticking out biggrin.gif

Danalana replied: Oooooooh, that's a good idea!

HuskerMom replied: I have nothing against people praying at walmart or wherever but I agree they shouldn't hold up traffic in the aisle. It also irritates me when people just stand there and chat in the aisle. If I run into someone I know and stop to talk then I at least get out of the way.

I was at walmart the other day and there was a lady talking on her cell phone pushing her cart and turned right in front of me. She came so close to hitting me, I was so mad. I wanted to grab her stupid cell phone and stick it where the sun don't shine. mad.gif

Danalana replied:
You wanted to stick her cell phone in Seattle?

Anthony275 replied:
i do it in school in the freshman hallway...i never get in trouble wink.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Yeah - really this isn't about praying - it's about standing in the aisle blocking everyone else WHILE praying. It's just as irritating to see people (usually woman) stop in the middle of the aisle and catch up on diapers, boogers and who got fat.

I do... I mean... to an extent. I get annoyed, but it's my problem to deal with, not theirs... at least they're moving and not just standing there. What really wigs me out is the people that are walking on the wrong side and expect you to move. It's just like on the road... stay on your side. I know it's not "really" like that... but still... people are all going one way, then you have this one twit coming on the same side as you all, and EVERYONE has to move to let her by, instead of her just going on the OTHER side of the aisle, where the people are all moving in HER direction...

grapfruit replied: Wal-Mart annoys me in general.

Tim's youngest brother, Scott works there (for now). It's seriously awful. He has horrible eye problems. Every 6 weeks or so he has to go to Lexington KY (that's like over a 3 hr drive) to have a 3 hour IV drip of Remicade for his eye condition. They TRY and schedule it to not interfere w/his job. But sometimes he's a bit late (about an hour has been the worst). Reason being is you can NEVER predict Cincinnati AND Dayton traffic...He ALWAYS calls from Cincinnati to give them a heads up. If he doesn't have these treatments he could go blind. He still might. ANYWAY, the point. They knew about this condition when they hired him. He told them straight out. BUT if he's late, he gets in trouble. Get in trouble enough and you have to WRITE AN ESSAY to tell them how you're sorry, and you're going to change and do better. blink.gif

He let Tim use his discount (he was standing there) for his monitor. Well they didn't tell him that HE is the ONLY one able to use the discount (no matter that they're BROTHERS). He almost got fired for it. He had to write a page essay....Is that not strange??

stella6979 replied:
An essay? WTH is that about??!!??
This may be off topic but I have to share since you brought that up. I worked for a contractor a while back and this guy seriously treated me like a personal slave. I actually left for lunch one day and when I came back he asked me why I didn't ask him if he wanted anything. He continued to hand me a piece of paper and on it was written something like "when you work for a man, than work for him" and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah....Anyways, after he handed it to me he told me he wanted a written response as to what I thought it meant. Well my response was "F#@& Off" and that's exactly what was written on the piece of paper I threw on his desk before walking out and never coming back.
I know my story had absolutely no point, but I guess I just don't understand how some people can treat others the way they do. I mean really, Walmart is going to ask for their employees to write an essay???? How absurd!!

grapfruit replied:
Yeah I can't believe he hasn't told them where to stick his job yet...BUT he DOES have a baby. So he's sucking it up, for now. Neither of them have a license, or a car. So they have to rely on other people for transportation.

*sigh*

They're really crappy to him. Why do people have to be crappy to their employees???

And good for you for telling that a-hole to f-off. smile.gif

Celestrina replied:
The two cannot be compared. If you are praying in the middle of the isle, you are there by choice and have no reason to block others. If someone walks slower, are elderly or possibly handicapped they are not blocking others by choice.

Cece00 replied:
For the elderly or handicapped, no. That is fine, I understand.

But stopping in the aisle to stop to talk to your friend for a couple of min when you could do that at home or a cell, and you are each blocking up a side so no one can get through? Thats a problem. MOVE.

Praying in the aisle? Cool. Blocking it b/c you are praying? Problem.

I am very careful about this. Personally, I feel if I watch what *I* am doing so I am not blocking others, then other ppl need to take the consideration to do it too.

Crystalina replied: I agree it's not the praying or gossiping or whatever causes a hold up *but* IMO there should be no hold up. They need to scoot their booties off to the side if doing that. Not only that if I were praying I would want to get out of the way anyway so as not to be interrupted. You would think they would want a peaceful prayer rather then one filled with huffs and puffs and "excuse mes". rolleyes.gif

Danalana replied: Casey, i don't know which Wal-Mart Scott works at, but they have been very good to me (I've worked at 2). Sure, I'm tired of it, but that's because I'm tired of PEOPLE laugh.gif AND I"M ON LEAVE, WOOOOOHOOOOOO!
Seriously though, they really helped me when my mother had her cancer surgery, and I was able to take a leave. They always work around whatever my schedule is, especially with OB appointments and stuff. It's sad if they treat him that way...I've honestly never seen any associate treated like that in the 7 years I've worked for them.
As far as the discount card and terms of use go, I was training coordinator at the walmart I was at before this one. I had to do orientation for all the new-hires (as well as actually hiring them rolleyes.gif ), and I made sure they knew who could use it and who could not. I know it seems dumb...Tim is his brother and all. I think the rule is there to prevent abuse of the discount. If my BIL or SIL want something and I can use my discount, I bring it to the register and I pay for it with cash or my debit card. That's the big thing. The cashier might not even know that Tim isn't Scott, but if he uses a check or card, his name will come up on the discount and that is the major no no. I don't know how they work at his store...maybe they never told him the terms, but I know it is gone over at orientation. Unless they have some funky training coordinator who doesn't go over it.
But yeah, I'm tired of working there. of course, I would be tired of working anywhere after 7 years, I guess.

Twelve Volt Man replied: I'm in favor of prayer, as long as it doesn't impose on others. When I pray, it's highly unlikely anyone else will be affected. That said, this scenario is the reason why, whenever I shop at Walmart, I immediately try on some open-fly boxer shorts, head for the beer aisle and crack open a cold one, then begin to make laps around the store. Oddly enough, I seldom run into crowds.

luvmykids replied:
I run into people all the time at Walmart, and usually its someone I haven't seen for awhile so we do get caught up in catching up. Yeah we could get each others numbers and talk on the phone later but that just isn't the same. I'm considerate to move if need be but I also don't have a problem turning around and just going out the aisle the way I came in....maybe the aisles at my walmart are just shorter so its not such a big deal laugh.gif

grapfruit replied:
Honestly, I think it's just THIS store. Everything was fine until he moved to 3rd shift, then the trouble started.

He says he didn't know Tim couldn't use it (and actually he was there w/us). He swears they never went over that with him. And after this they told him HE is the ONLY person able to use it. Not even his fiance that lives w/him.

They said they knew b/c my debit card rang up a red flag, BUT his mom has purchased groceries for them w/a check many times and has had no problems.

I don't know if I'm hearing 1/2 the story (could be), but I know that he's has an absurd about of problems, and strange "punishments" (like writing an essay). Needless to say he's looking for another job... dunno.gif

DVFlyer replied:
It's because they don't speak english.... at least in our case.

mckayleesmom replied: Ok...just to clarify...Im all about Prayer...but if you have so many people in a prayer session that you are taking up half of walmart....then you need to take it somewhere else, or at least be considerate of others.

coasterqueen replied:
laugh.gif We make a point of not shopping there either, unless we couldn't find it at Target. We had to do that this weekend, wasn't a fun experience. rolleyes.gif If I wasn't wanting to get the project done I was working on I would have waited. happy.gif

TheOaf66 replied:
depends

are they walking single file--no problem I am sure I will be that way some day

are they walking side by side and not taking into account other people and that you are only allowed a certain amount of space in narrow aisles and shouldn't take more than your share--yes I have a problem with that then

If everyone would just be aware of other people around them things would not be getting out of hand (I am excluded of course because I believe the world revolves around my needs rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif )
