PS2 or PS3

Does anyone know the difference in the PS2 and PS3, other than price? I guess I just would like to know if the PS2 would be okay for them to "start out on." As far as games go, are there a lot of kids' games to choose from?
TIA!
Nina J replied: Go for the PS3. DH had a PS2, and has a PS3 now. I'm not big in to gaming, but the graphics are better, it has blu-ray, I can really notice the difference and I am in no way a gamer, lol.
Plus, the PS2 is going to probably just get slowly fased out. Better to get the latest, and have it for years, rather than get the PS2, which is the old one. I mean, you never see PS1 games around, the same thing will happen with PS2. At least with the PS3, you know you've got games available for years.
Also, as far as looks, I like the look of the PS3 more. It looks much nicer with the tv and the tv unit
Basically, the difference is that the PS3 is more up to date, it's got improvements on the last one.
kimberley replied: the problem i find with PS and XBOX is that there are not a lot of games geared towards younger kids.
PS2 is going to be difficult to find games for but if that is the way you are heading, i'll mail you dh's. he got it a couple of years ago for christmas and i think it left the box 3 times lol.
what about a nintendo ds or a PSP? then they can play in the car.

punkeemunkee'smom replied: We have a PS2 and it did have lots of kids games available but honestly nobody touches it except to play DVDs on it!
AlexsPajamaMama replied: We had a dora game for our ps2 so I know there are some kid games. We have xbox 360 now and there are alot of kid games!
jem0622 replied: They are making more games for that console than the PS2. Also, some games will not play on the PS2 (e.g. if it has a purple/blue hued back instead of the standard).
We have a PS2. DH wants a Wii. However, I have told the kids that...if we do the Wii...there will be no other gifts. That isn't sitting too well here! LOL.
I am happy that they are still releasing things not geared to just little ones (Star Wars the Force Unleashed, Guitar Hero series, etc.) so that DH can enjoy it too. I think they know a lot of folks have not picked up the PS3 or the Wii due to availability or price...so they need to keep the PS2 versions available to consumers.
jcc64 replied: PS 2 is yesterday's news, Aimee. That might not matter to you, but soon enough, it will to your kids, especially since they will stop making games for that platform, if they haven't already. The other thing about PS 3 is that they can connect to the internet and play games against their friends, another thing that probably seems insignificant to you right now, but believe me, later on it becomes HUGE--my kids have tournaments that go on for days. You can even buy a headset that allows them to talk to each other while playing. It's really pretty cool. I know your kids are younger, but if you're only planning on buying one, you'll get more mileage out of the PS3. Graphics are also FAR superior.
MommyToAshley replied: I wouldn't get the PS2. You should always get the latest system for the mere fact that they eventaully stop making games for the older systems and you won't be able to buy any new games titles that come out.
Personally, I would get an Xbox 360 rather than the PS3. Xbox seems to be beating out the PS3 mainly because of their online features. And, there are a lot of kids games for the Xbox 360. In fact, Ashley bought Rod a game for his birthday -- of course it was one that they like to play together.

ps3 plays blueray and they are pulling those from the stores soon whcih make buying to play on just dandy but to use as a movie player bad as blue rays also cost 20-30 per movie.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: They both have Gameboys that are about to be upgraded to the DS.
It says the PS2 can be used for online gaming as well. I didn't want to spend too much money, but you guys are right, the initial investment might be worth it if it lasts longer.
I'll check out the xbox 360, too. I really love SingStar. Can you get that on the xbox?
MommyToAshley replied: I'm not sure what SingStar is? Is it like a karaokee thing? If so, we have American Idol for the Xbox360. Everyone has a blast with that. It's sort of like Guitar Hero in that it lets you know if you get off-key. The comments by the judges are pretty funny too.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Dee Dee--AI sounds like SingStar. It lets you know when you are off key and it keeps score. You can compete against other singers, etc. It's so much fun!!
TheOaf66 replied: sadly I still only have PS2, if you have games you wanna get rid of let me know
MommyToAshley replied: It sounds pretty similar.. you can do both on AI too. I don't know if SingStar is on the Xbox360, but you could probably do a search and find out pretty quickly.
danahas4monkeys replied: Aimee we have the PS3 and Rockband to go with it the kids LOVE it lol!
A&A'smommy replied: OH yes get a ps3 they are SOOO cool and they play blue ray and can also be a "media center"
