Pads
mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: What brand do you use?? For nursing....
I wanted to try something new, so I bought a cheap brand from Walmart before Wesley was born, but they are sooooooo not worth saving money for! I forget the name of the brand, but they are thick round pads, with no adhesive, so they move around in your bra (or at least they do in mine). And because they have no cone shape, you can totally see them through just about anything! I always get wet when wearing them because when I wake up in the morning, they are literally in my armpits! Totally useless. So I'm sticking to the more expensive Medela brand, although they are pricey, they are worth it! I like how they form to your figure and you can tape them in your bra. They are also thin and absorb really well IMO.
A friend told me about a washable gel kind called Lily pads or something? Anyone heard of them? Are they worth trying? I go through a ton of pads so I'm always looking to save money...BUT they must work too!
moped replied: I have a freind that LOVES those lilypad things
Otherwise I think I used Gerber....but I can't remember
Kaitlin'smom replied: I have no idea the brand I used but I had washable one....LOVED them. I HATED the ones that were supposed to stick to the bra never stuck right. I will see if I can find a link to the ones I used.
Kaitlin'smom replied: here is what worked for me
nursing pads
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Thanks Di! I may try those...washing them would save money!
coasterqueen replied: Be very careful with Lilypads. If they are what I remember them to be those can cause thrush for some. And I stress some , not all. Aren't those the ones that basically stops the flow of leakage?
I was too scared of thrush to try them. Thrush for me was a very evil thing.
Anyways, I used Lansinoh disposables and LOVED them.
MyLuvBugs replied: I have 4 cotton ones....I don't think they're lillypads? There weren't tags on them b/c they cam in a box, so I don't remember the name. I do remember getting them at Rite Aid though. They are AMAZING. Granted I didn't leak much at all, so I could wear them a lot before having to wash them, but they saved soooo much money b/c we didn't have to buy new ones all the time, just threw them in the washer/dryer and good as new!
MyLuvBugs replied: Here's a couple links that I found with some washable pads:
Medela Washable pads
Organic Cotton Pads
Cotton 6 pack Pads
And here is a good site that offers advice to nursing moms that are trying to choose nursing pads. Thought it was interesting anyway. Pad Advice Site
ZandersMama replied: i used every kind made, and nothing worked. Eventually, I started buying no name brand maxi pads and cutting them in half. lol. They worked great
PrairieMom replied: ive got the Lansinoh ones, byt they are bunchy in my bra. are washables really bad for thrush? i think i would like to try them, but I'm worried about yeasty problems
coasterqueen replied: No, washables are fine, not a problem for thrush....as long as you change them often. As soon as they get damp they should be changed.
The lansinoh ones get bunchy on you? Do you use the little sticky stuff to attach it to your bra? I've never had that happen.
PrairieMom replied: yeah. i stick em, but they just look bunchy. you can see the bunchiness througj my shirt. Maybe it has to do with breast size? i'm a little smallish.
boyohboyohboy replied: I prefer the disposable ones, I use johnson and johnson, they are more comfortable. and stay in place. although you can see them thru white clothes.... I think they are thicker and just feel better, I have had no problems with them, they are about $6 a box.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I've never tried the Lanisoh brand, but the Medela disposables don't bunch on me unless I've scooted the pad down while nursing. But for the most part, they stay pretty smooth and I'm SMALL (although I'm wearing a 36C right now and that's BIG for ME... No one laugh! ). I think it depends on the bra you're wearing. I have a few nursing bras where the pads bunch more than they do in others. My favorite bra right now is one I bought at Mimi Maternity. It's lightly padded, or not really padded, but it has thick cotton so that it smooths things out and makes me feel nice and covered. It's the easiest to open too.
kit_kats_mom replied: I tried a ton of nursing pads and I only liked the lanisoh ones. Target used to carry them, Walmart too...I ordered them online most of the time though
amynicole21 replied: I liked Lansinoh also. HATED Evenflo. J&J were ok. Cloth never worked for me because I soaked right thru.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: Tara do you use the original Lansinoh ones or the ultra soft ones that are gathered at the top and bottom? The gathered ones bunched up for me a lot.
I tried a few different kinds and the only ones I liked were the regular Lansinoh. I did sometimes soak through them but I had so much milk I would have soaked through anything. I tried washable ones but I soaked through those too much and got sick of washing my bras. Oh and they did make my thrush hurt a lot worse - I'd leak a tiny bit onto them, not enough to have to change them, and the milk would dry and feel really scratchy. If I was going to change them as soon as they got wet I'd have to change them every 2 minutes.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I have cotton ones... the disposable ones irritated my nips. But I soaked through when I did leak with Zach... and when I ran out, I used a pad cut in two... worked really good, and that's what I used afterwards for the other kdis... pads...
kimberley replied: i like the Johnson & Johnson one's best but usually end up with Lanisoh because that is all our local drug store carries. i can't stand them. they do bunch and feel like wet diapers if you get a big letdown and i don't like the sticky things either. they never stay in the right spot.
i did use the washable one's with the boys and they were ok, but they wouldn't always hold in a big letdown all the time and they yellowed a bit and i didn't want to bleach something that touches my body. i have sensitive skin.
KingMom replied: I was given lots of samples of pads and had cotton ones, but the ones that I found I liked the most were the Johnson & Johnson, at Walmart for about $6/box. I leaked a lot and had an oversupply of milk so I needed something that could really absorb well and they did the trick for me. I plan on using them this time too and have already packed a few in my hospital bag just in case.
If I remember correctly, you could see them through a white shirt, so I avoided that.
I recommend them if leak a lot.
Our Lil' Family replied: I used the Gerber washable ones and loved them.
holley79 replied: I LOVED the Lanisoh nursing pads. Those have really worked well for me. I also have the Lily Padz and love those also. I haven't had any problem with thrush but I didn't start using them still after I returned back to work when I didn't have a serious soaking problem.
