Phobias - Anyone have any??

mckayleesmom wrote: I mentioned this in another post, but I have a huge phobia with letting Mckaylee ride in a car without me in it. She has only rode with dh alone in the car I think 2 times and one of those days was yesterday and it was only 300 feet to the mall next door to the doctors office. The other time was when I was working and the truck broke down and he had to come get me with her. I seriously get anxiety attacks. Im still debating wether or not to let him bring her to the hospital after the baby is born. In one sence I want her to come see the baby, but it makes me sooo nervous...But I have also never been away from her overnight. I know she will be fine cause my sister will be here and she loves other people...so I don't think she will be to upset about mommy being gone. If its not snowing I will probably let him bring her, but if it is..she will just have to wait.

MomToMany replied: Well, I hate clowns. They scare the heck out of me.

5littleladies replied: Heights. Boring I know, but I get terrified going up a 4th story escalator at the mall. And elevators. Those things can be freaky!

As far as letting Mckaylee ride with your Dh. I'm sure you trust him and I know you know this, but he is going to protect her every bit as much as you would-Dad's are like that. wink.gif It would be a bummer if she didn't get to see her new sibling in the hospital, and I think you might want to see her too. smile.gif

favre4fan replied: Snakes, spiders, scares the heck out of me even the tiniest spider!!

mckayleesmom replied:
I know,,,but if the weather is still bad out Im not going to let him...lol....we live about 35-40 minutes away from the hospital and its in Duluth. I don't know if you have ever been to Duluth, but the roads there are horrible. Duluth is like San Francisco or New York...thats what it reminds me of, but a mini version. Plus they don't plow their roads here for anything.

jolene555 replied: The dark - I'm a total whimp.

As far as letting him drive your daughter - I was the same way! I had no problem with my mom or my dad driving her around w/o me, but NOT Barry. I think it was mainly due to knowing how well, or not so well he drives. Driving home from the hospital with her the first time I thought he'd kill us all, lol. I've given in a bit, since he (as well as others) told me I was being too protective and ignorant about it. So now he can drive her, but only in my car (it's a big suv, compared to his tiny 2 door pos). He still thinks I'm nuts.

5littleladies replied:
Yep-been there and the roads are ridiculous!!! I can understand your apprehension-especially if the weather were bad!

kimberley replied: i have the usual phobias... afraid of open heights, afraid of maggots, afraid of being in small spaces...

but have a million paranoias about the kids! i absolutely go nuts when they are in the car with their dad or away from me for more than a couple of hours (except at school). i don't like them eating other people's food, i worry about the cold and the heat, i worry, worry, worry....

it is not that i don't trust other people, it is more that i feel like *I* should always be there in case something happens. so i guess the bigger fear is of not being there for my kids if they need me.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: Being home alone at night... I carry the phone, a flashlight, and my pepper spray with me around the house. rolleyes.gif That and open heights. wink.gif

paradisemommy replied: ventriloquist dolls (sp?)..i watched that movie when i was younger and it warped me for life.. laugh.gif

billy_madison replied: I'm scared of swimming in oceans ( you never know what is in there), I'm scared of lightning, I'm scared of seeing a ghost ( I don't wanna, I don't wanna!!!) I'm scared of the car plunging into water with me and both kids ( How would I save them both) I'm scared if Billy and Phil go somewhere without me then they might have a car accident, I'm scared that the kids will stop breathing while they are sleeping, I am really scared that there will be an alligator under my car.
THere are a bunch more. I think I need medication!

Kila replied: I'm scared of spiders. I stast jumping around and actually breaking out in a mild sweat. My sister is too. We think it primarily stems from a pic in National Geographic that we saw when we were little. It was this close up of a wolf spider and you could see all of its eyes and her teeny tiny little babies that she carried on her back. I get a creepy feeling just thinking about it.

TeagansMom609 replied: Im scared to death of water. Not like swimming pools, but oceans, lakes, rivers, creeks, etc. And im really scared of sharp objects. Mostly knives, I have nightmares ALL the time that im being stabbed.

aspenblue1 replied: I am scared of height and close spaces.

ediep replied: well I am afraid of heights

but I am a very nervous person so I constantly worry about Jason...too hot, too cold, too tired, hungry, needing me when i can't be there...

party-of-six replied: Roaches.....I cannot handle roaches. Any other bug or situation.....but not a roach. ugh.

redchief replied: Camel crickets.... I've tackled black widow and brown recluse spiders with no real fear other than the obvious... glad I got her before she got me. I work in a lot of home crawl spaces, and generally have no trouble, but camel crickets give me the willies... They're harmless, being unable to bite a human, and blind as a bat, but they always come in the hundreds and when one jumps... the whole colony starts to jump.... *shudder*.

I've never heard of the fear of letting my kids be in the car with my spouse. I think if I were your DH, I'd be working with you on curing that one.

Clown phobias are actually quite common. I don't know why.

Funniest one I ever heard of was this... One of the guys in the firehouse is deathly afraid of fishhooks. The sight of one causes him to totally flip out. Of course it being a firehouse, the guys are totally unsympathetic.

Allyson&Patrick'sMom replied: ohmy.gif ohmy.gif Thuderstorms!

gr33n3y3z replied: closed in spaces

mammag replied: As far as the kids my biggest fears are:

*Being in the front yard without me....it only takes a second and they could be gone. (Even my 9 year old's not allowed)

*School buses - too many horror stories

*fevers - Kristen had Fibral Seizures when she was young and I'm worried each time that it will happen again.

*social issues - I don't want them to feel bad about themselves like I always did. It's the first thing I ask about at conferences "are they making friends".

For me:

*Getting carjacked - I always lock my door, never get close enough to the car in front of me that I couldn't speed away if someone tries to get in

*I can't walk up my stairs at night with the lights out, it feels like someone is behind me.

*bugs in the house - I don't mind them outside, just stay out of my house!!!

That's about it.... I'm really not that paranoid at all wink.gif

billy_madison replied: OMG how could I forget roaches *shudder* I will scream at my dh to kill it and I won't stop until he does. So he better not let it get away.

TANNER'S MOM replied: I am afraid of heights. It is awful I shake and get all weak kneed. I sweat and can start to throw up.

My oldest daught Brittany is deathly afraid of clowns. When she was 18 months old she was in the hosptial and was being catherized and a clown on the children's ward walked in the room, she has been so frightned every since. She screams and cry's. She is in 9th grade and will pass out at the sight of clowns. We used to go to rodeo's were my kids competed and she would freak out. Thank God most rodeo clowns stopped painting there faces. We have friends who used to be PRCA prof. bull fighters and have had them talk to her and nothing helps. She says mom I just need Montel or something. I have had to pick her up at night from friends homes if they have clowns etc,

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Water! I hate water! Same as Teagan'smom. Oceans, lakes, rivers. Everytime I go over a bridge I shudder from head to toe.

I'm also afraid of open heights. tongue.gif

I won't list all the phobias that involve my kids. wacko.gif

MomToJade&Jordan replied: Spiders *shudders* Oh I hate them. I lived in Florida for a good half of my life and they grow them big down there. Now I have never seen a big spider here in Hawaii UNTIL the other night. It was on my car. Right on the door handle and it moved when it saw me. I screamed like a little girl and made my friends son go get a big burly man to kill it for me. Oh I hate them.

I don't do well in closed in spaces and open heights as well.

danahas4monkeys replied: ewww water, and we are currently flooded in so that is really at me lol! but my numberl one fear is birds a bird gets near me and i will pass out ! dana
