Pics of our dog and serious dog questions!!!
coasterqueen wrote: Ok, I'm hyperventilating thinking of everything we need for Gavin. We have tonight and tonight only to get everything, because we pick up the kitties (Hayley and Minnie Hyatt) tomorrow and I want to spend the evening with them, not running around. SO......what do I need for a dog? Seriously, because I know I will just go in there buying everything and being super foolish about it. I also need to know what I'd need for him since we are going to be traveling with him this weekend (crossing my fingers traveling works out ). So tips/things there would be so appreciated as well.
I know I need a dog leash, dog collar, water bowl/food bowl for home, food, some chew toys, doggie bed (maybe), pet shampoo, dog treats.....a kennel to travel with. What else???
Pics of Gavin are below. I have 4 of him. Not the greatest since they were taken with my phone. They surely don't do him justice. The last one is of him getting his bath so he can get neutered tomorrow. Otherwise the ones before that he looks a little dirty.
P.S. sorry mods, these pics are big. I don't have anything on this computer to resize, so please do so if need be.

coasterqueen replied: I'm not going to post 3rd pic, looks much like 2nd. This one is the 4th one - Gavin getting a bath. Arggg. it's not letting me post the 4th one. Says the jpg format isn't the same, but it is. Oh well.
cameragirl21 replied: he's gorgeous and he looks so excited to be going home! Can't think of anything else you'll need...did they tell you what kind of food he likes? Make sure you take something of the yours and Ryan's and the girls', like an old piece of clothing and put it in his dog bed or give it to him to play with so he gets used to your smell. Besides that, I think you have it covered, congrats on your new furbabies.
cameragirl21 replied: if you want to email me the fourth pic, I'll post it, I can reformat it if necessary.
coasterqueen replied: Thanks, Jennifer. I sent it to you.
Calimama replied: He's adorable! And I love his name!
my2monkeyboys replied: He's gorgeous!!! He looks like a black version of DH's best friend's dog. His is brown with a white patch on his chest, but otherwise they look like twins. Sounds like you have everything covered... I also agree with Jennifer about taking something with your scents on it, too. Congrats!! I know he's going to be so happy!
My3LilMonkeys replied: He is a cutie!!!!
A dog brush and nail clippers if you will be doing any grooming at home.

3xsthefun replied: He looks just like the dog we adopted in April. I can't believe how much Gavin looks like our Jake. It is crazy!
He is a beautiful dog! Congrats!
mom21kid2dogs replied: I'd call the vet to make an appt for vax , heartworm & flea preventative. Are you going to do any border training with him so he can learn his new boundries? If so and you don't have an outdoor kennel or your training fence installed yet, you might need a lond tie and tie out to ensure his safety while he gets his bearings.
Avoid rawhide chews, especially in larger dogs, they can cause health issues like choking and intestinal rot. Go with natural bones. They love it when you put peanut butter in the end like a Kong!
Our trainer always encouraged us to stay away from retractible leads. We also use a Gentle Leader with our dog. They are great for big dogs that can pull you or your kids down. It eliminates their ability to pull as hard and they get a tightening or correction on their muzzle if they pull.
He is so adorable!!! He looks like a big old teddy bear!
Mommy2Isabella replied: adorable pup!!
youngmomofone replied: cute!
mckayleesmom replied: He is a cutie.....Don't buy a whicker dog bed...they will eat them...
CantWait replied: Karen he's adorable I've been lurking around the last couple days and reading your struggles and what not with finding the perfect pet, I'm glad you finally found a few new furbabies to add to your family. Enjoy.
coasterqueen replied: Thanks everyone. Going to the pet store was almost overwhelming last night. For ALL of us. We got lots of things, including a kennel. It should be here tonight to be assembled.
Cheryl - their vet is going to do the flea/tick/worm thing and he is current on all his vax. Thanks for the tips on the rest of the stuff. I had no idea on the rawhides. I guess I'll have to see if the bones we got are them before giving them to him.
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: He's very cute Karen!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Awww! Congratulations! He's beautiful
