Plumbing question - Ed? Or anyone else?

luvmykids wrote: My kitchen sink, even at full blast, is just giving me a little tiny stream of water and after I turn it off, the little tiny stream continues for a minute. Not having any trouble anywhere else, all other faucets and appliances are working fine. I really don't want to call a plumber if it's something I (or my dad LOL) could fix.

BAC'sMom replied: Maybe the little strainer thing needs to be cleaned or maybe a new gasket.

Oh man Ed is going to LOVE that WOMEN answer! Right ED? tongue.gif

luvmykids replied: Where does a gasket go? I mean, where would I look to check a gasket?

Brias3 replied: Not that I really know anything about this area but have you tried some Drano yet? I've thrown some in a few times when the water pressure isn't up to its usual and I think I was able to take care of a few smaller blockages that way. If not, I'm sure its something fairly easy to fix if you can find someone to help you with the pipes.

Good luck! As you can tell through my silly reply, we probably still need Ed to cover this one wink.gif

BAC'sMom replied: Ok are we talking about the water coming out of the faucet or the water going down the drain?

I am confused. wacko.gif

Ed where are you?

TheOaf66 replied: if you're talking about coming out of the faucet then right where the water comes out _____
l <----- right there that piece should unscrew to the Left

inside that piece is a screen and then a gasket check those

if it is not going down the drain real well then try using a plunger on the drain to clear out the obstruction

hope this helps thumb.gif

BAC'sMom replied:

Thanks Troy I could've said it better myself. rolling_smile.gif

luvmykids replied: I'm talking about water coming out, when I move the lever, even to full force, I just get a little stream that keeps streaming even after I turn it back off. I'll try checking the little screen and gasket thingy emlaugh.gif

redchief replied: If the little screen part at the end of the spout (called an aerator) is clear, let me know. I suspect this is not your problem, but I need more information on the type and style of faucet to be sure.
If you could get me the model number of the faucet, or even a picture, it would help.

luvmykids replied: I checked the aerator, looks fine. Worked perfectly fine, out of the blue the next time I turned it on the problem started. I think it's a Moen faucet but not sure, can't see the name blush.gif This pic is the most water that comes out. It's one that has the sprayer or regular faucet combo if you needed that info too. (But the spray setting is even more pathetic now)

If that's not a good enough pic let me know

redchief replied: Yep, that's what I was afraid of. That faucet converts to spray or straight streams doesn't it?

luvmykids replied:
Tru dat emlaugh.gif

So what does that mean, that I need a plumber?

btw-when I push the faucet thingy hard (that thing you move to control temp/flow) it sounds like water is trying to come out but doesn't.

redchief replied:
That depends on how handy you are.

There's a part inside the head called a diverter. It's either hanging up or clogged (usually clogged with dirt) It switches the streams from spray to stream and is attached inside to the button that makes the streams switch. If you can look at it and figure out how to get into the head, you may be able to fix it yourself, otherwise you're going to need a pro.

Unfortunately the pic wasn't clear enough for me to positively ID the faucet or I might be able to get more info to you.

redchief replied: ...if I could get a closeup of the handle.... wink.gif

luvmykids replied: Ok, handle. And do you mean disconnect it from this silver hose thing, and get in the head? I think I see how to do that. Thanks for your help.

luvmykids replied: I GOT IT thumb.gif thumb.gif thumb.gif

I undid the head from the hose and just ran super hot/fast water through it (from the tub) and put it back on, now it's good thumb.gif

Thanks so much Ed for your help thumb.gif

BAC'sMom replied: Now that is technology a virtual plumber. (Via the Internet)

How much does she owe you Ed? rolling_smile.gif

redchief replied:

luvmykids replied:

Virtual plumber, laugh.gif.... and a free one at that! Ed, you may just put all the other plumbers out of busineess.

redchief replied: Never... there are too many children in the world for plumbers to become obsolete. wink.gif emlaugh.gif

luvmykids replied: I can't take any credit but I do think Ed should start an online plumbing consulting business thumb.gif Just make sure you get their credit card number first emlaugh.gif
