Poll: Kids and Soda - how often....

Brias3 wrote: Just curious, all. Although I try to keep them away from it as much as possible, my kids DO have it every once in awhile as a special occasion-type thing but only caffeine-free choices.

Edward's Mommy replied: I said never, but Edward is only 8 months old laugh.gif tongue.gif ! But when he gets older, I will control it and it won't be a lot, if any.

luvmykids replied: I have a don't ask don't tell policy with the grandparents, so I know they get a little there, and DH is a Dr Pepper addict so they manage to beg some off him here and there. I don't personally give it to them other than once in a while they get Sprite if we go play at McDonalds.

C&K*s Mommie replied: Kinda in between always and sometimes. Like Monica, Chris gives up his Pepsi to the girls often. I give in too, but not as much. And I will buy Sprite for them at fast food rest, or when we are out and about and I do not have any juice for them to drink. Neither are big water drinkers, (I wish Kellie still was though) so stopping at a water fountain to get more than a few sips is all we do.

ilovemybaby replied: Only once or twice a month but only Sprite and I only give her half sprite and half water.

CAMSMOM1 replied: I voted "sometimes". My sister always gives her son soda, and when I'm over there, I see she puts some in Cam's sippy cup. rolleyes.gif And then he's so hyper he wont' sleep! emlaugh.gif But I don't give him soda at home. If I do give him soda, it's maybe once a month, and I try to give him Sprite. But I do give him Capri-Suns or Mininute Maid drinks once a day. blush.gif

Momof3inMe replied: My boys us to drink lots of soda and now we only drink it when we are out to eat or if DH wants to be super nice and gets them one when we are out for a long day. As for Em she has never had soda. She is a big water drinker so if you get a bottle of water she thinks your the best.

AlexsPajamaMama replied:
My Nana drinks diet sierra mist and she lets Alex drink some while he is there. We have Pepsi at home for DH, but Alex never even asks to have soda here. He knows its a special thing with Nana.

mom89 replied: Um,the option I wanted to use wasn't there.
my dd is getting into her teens so I let her have it everyday at lunch at school.
I don't really like it but, she's in junior high now,so.

My3LilMonkeys replied: I didn't vote because the answer is: I have no idea! rolling_smile.gif

I give Brooke soda very rarely - maybe a few sips once a month (I'm trying not to drink soda myself anyway).

As for DH and the grandparents, I'm sure they do but I don't know how often or how much.

Here's a soda related funny though:

The other day I was at IL's house and I had a glass of Pepsi. Brooke came up to me and said, "Me need something to drink Mom." So I asked her if she wanted juice or milk and she said, "Soda!" I told her she can't have soda and she said, "Daddy gives me soda." I said when does Daddy give you soda? She gave me a HUGE smile and said, "Every day!"

I know that's not true because we don't have soda in our house every day but it had me rolling_smile.gif !

Kaitlin'smom replied: I said rarley even given the choise of sprite or 7up she prefers milk. I know she had had some with the sitter here and there and recently I found out she had let her have coke-a-cola a few times and I put a stop to that and said if she is going to have pop NO Caffeene!

luvbug00 replied: Mya isn't a big soda drinker. she has a lemonade habit LOL.. So it's not an issue. She does get shirly temples on special occacions.

PrairieMom replied: The boy had his first sip at 12 months. (thanks Grandma dry.gif ) she thought it was so funny, and gave him a bunch when my back was turned. even after I asked her not to. Her famous words? " Oh! she caught us!" I was beyond livid. growl.gif
Now he gets a few sips if I leave my cup down where he can reach it, (sneeky little devil) but I have never acutally given him soda.

MamaJAM replied: Most of our kids are allowed soda at one meal every day (lunch or dinner.....obviously during the week they don't get it at lunch and often want it at dinner). I don't see the harm in a glass of soda with a meal. Though they don't ALWAYS want it -- DD#1 would rather have gatorade....DD#3 only drinks water (on rare occasions she'll have juice...but she only likes water)....and DS#2 hasn't had soda yet (he's 2.5).

mckayleesmom replied: Mckaylee will try to get it as often as she can....but I usually give her water or juice...She usually waits till my back is turned and she will steal my glass. Also, on doctor appointment days...she is allowed to get a sprite from the coffee place and I usually get a cappaccino.

3_call_me_mama replied: I voted never. Cause my kids only get water milk of juice. On rare occassion DH will give them gatorade. O rhtey really like sparkling water. So if DH is having soda we give them sparkilng wate rand they don't know or care that it's not what he's drinking. I think once cameron tried Dennis' root beer but kathleen has never had it as far as i know. And i don't leave tehm anywhere so doubt they have had it.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: It's rare, but I do let them have soda. We just don't buy it for the house so most of the time they drink milk or water. And when I feel like making it, Kool Aid. happy.gif Even when we go out to eat Maddie will ask for milk more than she'll ask for soda. Ethan calls everything 'coke'...even his water. Or he'll call it "shoosh" (juice) emlaugh.gif

A funny: My parents were here last weekend and as I was putting Ethan to bed he said "I want shoosh" I said "Okay, I'll go get your juice for you." My mom's eyes got SO BIG! laugh.gif I looked at her and said "It's water...he just calls it juice...I don't really put him to bed with juice" rolling_smile.gif She said "Oh thank God!" happy.gif

5littleladies replied: My girls usually only have soda when we eat out, or sometimes when we have a cookout. We do have soda in the house on a regular basis though and their Papa has been known to give them some from time to time. rolleyes.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I voted sometimes but it is usually a sip of ours here or there. Occasionall they will get sprite or Sierra mist if we are someplace that doesn't have milk but thats it. If we are out somplace and they have milk that is what the kids get.

Crystalina replied: This is the ONE thing that REALLY makes me feel like a bad mommy. sad.gif My DH is a Pepsiholic and I can drink about 2 cans myself and the kids have picked that up. I was raised on it. They can have a can (between the pair of them) for lunch. I've tried to stop the Pepsi drinking but when DH drinks it in front of them they don't understand why I'm all of a sudden saying it's not good. Daddy is doing it. I'm recently an OJ addict so I'm doing pretty good but yes, they have about a half a can a day and sip off of his. sad.gif sad.gif It's my one major 'I know I'm doing wrong'.

I think I'll start watering it down so it is undesireable for them. happy.gif

holley79 replied: Well Brandon is 17 so he can pretty much have what he wants. rolling_smile.gif

Annika on the other hand. When she is old enough to consume soda then it will probably be very very rarely. blush.gif
