Popping in for a sec

kit_kats_mom wrote: Looks like Lauren has some reflux and jaundice (level was 10 yesterday). Just sent grandma to the pharmacy to get the zantac. She spits up a lot after feedings, which I know most babies do, but she's very uncomfortable before she spits and she also burps/gags and is kind of wheezy too. Grrrreat! Extra laundry for mom! rolleyes.gif Oh well, she sure is making it perfectly clear that she's not her sister. tongue.gif

She slept 4 hours last night too...of course that was in bed with me (I'm so worried about the spitting up right now) but hey, mama got some rest!

I've scheduled some time today to write my birth story before I forget all of the gory details wink.gif and I've also gotten some more pics that I"ll post to my webpage later. I'll post the link when I'm done.

Finally, K is adjusting very well but when Lauren cries, K FREAKS out! She does not like to see her sister crying. She bolts to whatever adult is there (besides the one holding Lauren) and gets very concerned. Katherine is wondering why all Lauren does is sleep though....I can just see her thinking; goodness Lauren, don't you know we have a giant playroom full of fun toys? Wake up kiddo! There's fun to be had! LOL

amynicole21 replied: Ugh! Sorry about the jaundice and reflux. At least it's been warm here so that you can sit her in a diaper in front of the window for a while.

And 4 hours of sleep?? ohmy.gif In a row?? wink.gif Very nice!

kit_kats_mom replied: Oh, I forgot to add that breastfeeding is not going so well. She will latch on but I'm so engorged and uncomfortable. I also can not seem to get letdown no matter what I do. I've pumped, I've been super relaxed etc but nada. I'm not sure what's going on. Need to hit Kellymom when I get a sec to see what else I can do. sad.gif

You'd think that bf'ding K for 2+ yrs would make me a pro but it's all different. No forceful letdown, no letdown at all. Kinda bummed. We will get through it though.

Kaitlin'smom replied: Glad to see you pop in, sounds like things are deffinatly different this time. It cute that K is concerend one of my cat did this with Kaitlin.

Sounds like your hands are full but 4 hours last night that great, hopefully she will continue with that or more for you so you can get some rest

I look foward to reading your birth story

aspenblue1 replied: That is great that she is sleeping 4 hours straight. Sorry to hear about the Jaundice and reflux.

MomToMany replied: Thanks for the update Cary! So sorry to hear about the jaundice, reflux, and difficulty BFing. I know I was frustrated when Kayla was having trouble latching on right. It hurt SO bad, like curl your toes up BAD. I would cry out and start crying whenever I had to nurse her. I went & saw a LC ASAP, and she showed me different positions and tricks to get her latched on well.

I hope things settle down for you soon.

DansMom replied: Thanks for the update---I hope the jaundice clears up soon! It's sweet that Katherine gets so concerned. It's all so new to her. She's going to learn a lot about babies in the next year or so! I remember reading that every child is different in terms of getting used to BF. I bet things will get easier within a few days as she gets better at latching on. grouphug.gif

coasterqueen replied: Sorry about the jaundice and reflux sad.gif. Poor thing. That's awesome that you are getting 4 hours in a row! That's my dream. tongue.gif

I would strongly urge you see a LC if you can. As a matter a fact since Lauren has jaundice a lot of insurances cover a home health nurse visit and *sometimes* they are certified LC...at least I got lucky and the one that came to our house for Kylie's jaundice was smile.gif. That way it would be covered, maybe wink.gif.

kimberley replied: wavey.gif thanks for the update. sorry to hear about the reflux and jaundice. how cute is K for being so concerned! that is one major thing i noticed is so different between Jade and the boys.. she is very empathatic already at 16mos! she sees her brothers or someone on tv crying and she cries. too cute. happy.gif

MommyToAshley replied: wavey.gif Hello and thanks for the update!

That is so sweet that K is concerned about her little sister. wub.gif

I don't know much about jaundice, but I know about reflux. I am sure you have already been told this, but the best thing you could do for the reflux is to elevate Lauren at least 45 degrees when feeding, and then put her up on your shoulder after feeding for another 30 minutes after you are done feeding her. I also let Ashley sleep in her infant seat for naps since it was elevated. I am sure the BF problems have to do with the reflux... it's probably uncomfortable for her to eat, poor baby. I hope the zantac helps. (Have you tasted that stuff? -- yuck!!!)

A&A'smommy replied: awww poor baby girl!!! I hope that goes away soon!!!

LOL about K I was that way towards my brother when he was born too, I think its pretty normal!!! Sounds like she is a GREAT big sister!!! wub.gif wub.gif

paradisemommy replied: omg...how cute is k that she is so concerned?? thanks for the update and sorry to hear about the reflux and jaundice but 4 HOURS?? woo hoo!!! can't wait to read the birth story!! wub.gif

ammommy replied: thumb.gif on the 4 solid hours of sleep! Hopefully the reflux will get better soon. I hated dealing with spit up. That's the one bodily smell I just couldn't handle.
As for the bf, you may be letting down and not know it. i didn't feel the letdown with either child. I agree with seeing a LC. Mine was very helpful and recommended changing positions every time I nursed until I found onw that worked with DD. With her, if the position wasn't exactly right, she wouldn't nurse. Picky, picky, picky... wink.gif

jcc64 replied: Hey Cary,
Noah was a barfer, and to this day his stomach is his particular issue. The infant seat kept him at a good angle- sometimes we used to leave him in that all night next to the bed.
Corey was jaundiced- she just got over it on her own eventually. I vaguely remember my brother telling me that it goes from the top down, (head to toe?), so that you don't really have to worry too much unless it makes its way too far down the body.
And as for the bf- 2 words- beer and oatmeal.
It'll come back, and I agree about the LC- sometimes they can spot something you're not seeing.

ediep replied: thanks for checking in.....Sorry about the jaundice and reflux. Good luck.

No advice on BF, sorry.

Can't wait to read your story and see her new pics!! She is a doll!!!

My2Beauties replied:
Hanna had some gassiness and reflux as well and I put her in her car seat all the time for naps to keep her elevated, heck she even slept in there for a couple of months...I know BAD MOMMY!! orry to hear she has jaundice, but she will get better quickly!!!

MomToJade&Jordan replied: Hey Cary! Thanks for the update. Wow 4 hours straight! WTG Lauren! Jade didn't start sleeping more then two hours at a time until she was put in her own bed. Things are just so much better when you are not sleep deprived.

K is so cute. I knew she was going to be a great big sister. She's all ready looking out for Lauren. I just have this feeling that Jade will be the same way if she ever gets a sibling. Look at all this stuff we can play with. Why are you just laying there? She saw the neighbors new baby last week and asked if the baby could get down. Jade wanted to play.

I don't have any experience with the reflux, but Jade did have jaundice. We even had her tested, but as Jeanne said above as long as it doesn't make it all the way to her feet she will be all right. I think Jade's made it to about her groin area and then my milk came in. She even had yellow eyeballs it was scary.

I'm sorry that you have having problem with the bfing. Hopefully the engorging will go away. I think calling a LC is a great idea. Just in case.

I see that you have posted the birth story so I am going to read that now. I'm glad that things are going mostly all right.

favre4fan replied: Congrats on the little one i just saw your post, i am a bit behind! what a cutie! Both my boys had jaundice. Nolan was worse he had to stay in the hospital longer nder the lights. Nolan also had reflux and projectoile vomiting, NOT FUN!!

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Cary, Lauren is beautiful and K is cute as ever in those pictures! She looks so proud of her sister. wub.gif

I'm sorry to hear about the jaundice and reflux. Poor Lauren. I have been thru it. Request the mint flavored zantac. It is so much better. wink.gif I hope it eases her tummy. Ethan's reflux got better after 6 mos. It isn't gone, but he isnt' spitting it out anymore, he just swallows. He lived in his infant carseat for the first few months. That thing was a life saver. smile.gif

You are a bf'ing pro. I know you will figure out the letdown. Hang in there. It takes awhile to get settled in. grouphug.gif I'm glad to hear everything else is going fine (especially the sleeping issue) thumb.gif

Thanks for checking in! wavey.gif

Kila replied: I'm glad that K is doing well with the change. That's one less issue that you have to deal with. I'm certain everything else will work out too. Good luck! You're definite more able to deal with this stuff than I am!
