Pork chops in the crock pot?
coasterqueen wrote: Okay I had found a recipe for pork chops in the crock pot and needed something to put in before leaving for work this morning so I tried it. BUT.........Idunnoaboutit.
It called for pork chops (of course), some cream of "something" soup and 1/2 cup of ketchup. Ketchup? I like ketchup but the combo of a cream soup and it did not appeal to me. I had Dh grab me a can of cream soup out of the super susan, it was a cream of onion to be exact. I mixed it with the ketchup and YUCK! I thought I was gonna barf immediately.
I told DH he had to take that out of the pot and put it on my plate before I got home to see it or I might just
Can someone tell me if they've done this before and does it really taste good?
~Roo'sMama~ replied: That sounds um.... interesting. I'm a really picky eater so I probably wouldn't even try it but it might be good if you don't think about it. My mom used to make pork chops in the crockpot... Pork Chops Consomm'e. It had tomatos and stuff in it so I thought it was gross.
booey2 replied: Nope but it does sound gross. I have a recipe for Diet Coke chicken, but I don't have it with me. My leader gave it to us last week, I will get it again on Wednesday and post it here. It calls for a can of diet coke, cup of ketchup and 4 boneless chicken breasts, and my leader loves it. Will get all the details later.
5littleladies replied: I haven't tried it either-Sounds quite weird though. Let us know how it turns out. And let me know if your pork chops are moist-I made pork chops in the crockpot 2 weeks ago-I just cooked them in barbque sauce and they were sooooo tough and dry!!! I'm wondering if I needed to add water or if my crockpot is just too hot.
coasterqueen replied: Oh no, I'm in trouble. I know some of you aren't picky like I am and if you think it sounds "interesting" I know I'm going to upchuck it if I even try it. Okay, so maybe I'll have DH blindfold me for I get into the kitchen to eat it tonight.
Kaitlin'smom replied: Sorry karen I am not that pick of an eater and that souds terrible...I hope it tastes better than it sounds. Let us know. i would love to do more crockpot cooking guss I need to gets some recipies and go to the store
jdkjd replied: Generally lean cuts of pork (like the chops) tend to dry out in the crockpot. The fattier cuts like shoulders and butts do better but have more calories.
Hopefully the cream and ketchup combo won't be too bad. Sounds interesting though...
kimberley replied: hmm well think of it as a rose sauce... you know a white sauce with a bit of tomato blended in . good luck with it. maybe have a big lunch or put pizza on speed dial just in case
coasterqueen replied: Ok, it was dry, but Dh didn't think it was bad. I thought the ketchup made it too sweet and it was too dry for me to eat. So that will be the last time I cook it, although Dh really didn't mind it.
Kaitlin'smom replied: thanks for the update and I still dont even think I coudl have eaten that....eeewwww
MommyToAshley replied: The thought of a cream sauce and ketchup just didn't sound appealing to me either. So, the sauce wasn't so bad, eh? I don't like dry meats either, so I probably wouldn't have eaten it either.
I made ribs in the crock pot for New Year. They turend out really tender and yummy, but the sauerkraut had cooked too long and didn't have much taste.
Isabellasmom replied: I have that sauce, well we use ketchup, cream of mushroom soup, chopped onions and worchestersauce but we bake it instead of crock potting it. I always get dry pork chops from the crockpot except for one recipe. That's the BBQ chops. You put a thin layer of your favorite BBQ sauce on the bottom of the crock pot, throw on your chops (I use bone in) pour the rest of the bottle of BBQ sauce over it and cook on low all day. They are so tender and juicy that when I stuck a fork in to take them out, the meat just fell off the bone
coasterqueen replied: Hey thanks BBQ pork chops sounds good I will have to try that one next grocery day!
