Portable DVD players
Sarah&Mackenzie wrote: Just wondering if anyone has the portable DVD players for your car? What brand do you have? Do you like it? We are thinking of getting one because I am probablly going to visit my sister in Ohio (7 hour drive) and need a distraction for Mackenzie. Here is the thing she really doesn't watch a lot of t.v. She is more interested in playing, so do you think this will keep her occupied in the car??? TIA!!
luvmykids replied: Does she not watch a lot of TV because you don't let her, or she isn't interested? Either way, on a long car trip it would probably be better than looking out the window, but if she likes TV and you just aren't big "watchers" she'd probably love it!
We haven't gotten one b/c I have such fond memories of car trips as a kid and the games we played, etc. but I'm seriously thinking of getting one before we head out anywhere again. I'll do anything to stop the fighting in the car!
Kaitlin'smom replied: my van came with a DVD player, but we do have a portable one its a SONY we LOVE it, easy to use and does last quite a while not plugged in.
Does she have any favorite shows? if so get a couple on DVD or get her a new movie or 2.
Oh and what part of Ohio?
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: She had dvd's already, like the wiggles and blues clues and a lot of disney movies. My sister lives in Mentor, OH.
fashionmumofboys replied: We have one built in our vehicle, but don't have a portable. We are thinking of buying one for our other vehicle.
Kaitlin'smom replied: ahhh okay way up by Cleveland, just wanted to see if you were gonna be comming my way.
does she like the movies or DVD's, you might need one new one to have for a suprise that might capture her attention for part of the drive. I have done that so when Kait was a bit fussy I suprieds her with a new DVD, I got them at wal-mart for like $5
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: Where are you at???
Kaitlin'smom replied: just north of Dayton, near 75 and 70
Sarah&Mackenzie replied: I did a map search and you are almost 4 hours away from Mentor. Too bad, I would have loved to meet you!!!
Kaitlin'smom replied: yep, so unless we are on your route does not look possible. darn
C&K*s Mommie replied: We have one in our car, it is almost always on even on short trips. Our girls really do watch too much tv, IMO. While a Dora dvd is almost always on, they are not in front of it all the time. Kellie sits to watch Dora in the morning, and Diego after that. Christian is usually still in bed.
We have one of those Craig portables. It was on sale around Christmas at ToysRus, and we love it. My mother has another kind that we got from ebay that she loves too.
She may not be zoned into it 100%, but I think that she would enjoy it just the same.
BAC'sMom replied: We got one last summer and I love it! It's made by Polaroid.
MamaJAM replied: My oldest DD bought herself a DVD player a few months ago...I _think_ it's a SONY. She didn't buy the cheapest...but she didn't get the highest-priced one either. It's nice BUT -- it has to be held on a lap. I have seen some units where there are 1 or 2 screens attached to a singl playing unit. I don't really know much about them though.
Until we bought out Relay last year - we never had any type of DVD (or video) player for the cars. On longer trips we had music the kids liked (and that we enjoyed too) and we'd all sing together. Also - we had books on tape (I'm sure they make them on CD now) - the kids looked through the books while the car read them. The kids were always well entertained...if things got bad - we'd pull over for a little stretch time. While the kids do enjoy the DVD player we have now -- it wasn't something I ever wanted. It actually came standard on our Relay. We only use it on long trips...and even then we wait quite a while before letting the kids pick a DVD -- we still have sing-a-longs for a long time first.
