Potty Training Help.... - Again....

MyLuvBugs wrote: Ok. So Lorelei is pretty much potty trained while here at the house (except for nap and nighttime)....but what do you all do when you go out to the store or on a trip? Do you put rubber pants on? Do you put the disposable trainers on? Or just take an extra pair of undies and pants and just see what happens?

mckayleesmom replied: I usually make her go potty before we leave the house.....and when we get to the store I ask her if she has to potty before we go shop.

coasterqueen replied: Put a towel on the carseat, take extra undies and clothes.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Ditto to all of the above. I had one daycare girl who was potty trained but because mom kept putting pull ups back on her to go shopping she started to get confussed and digressed a bit. I would recommend just keeping the underwear on her, take along extra clothes with a plastic bag to put the dirty ones in just in case, and wipes to clean her up with if she does have an accident. I don't know about others, but I had noticed that Tanner always did better in public than at home because he was afraid of being embarassed. If she can do it at home, I'm sure she'll be fine at the store. Just have her go before you leave and maybe take her in the store if you are there a long time.

ETA: Glad to hear she's doing great!!! thumb.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: we're like the others...bring extra clothes

coasterqueen replied: Also be prepared for MANY bathroom trips while out for now on. At least that seems to be the case for us. I swear I've been in more public bathrooms since Kylie's been trained than I have in my entire life. ICK! I absolutely despise it. But it never fails, no matter if I make her go before we leave or not, she has to go at least once while we are out, if not more times. rolleyes.gif

I just hope when Megan starts potty training that the two of them can be on some sort of bathroom schedule while we are out or I might as well spend our entire time in public restrooms. wacko.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
Yep, Tanner too! I think he just gets bored at the store or he's just curious about what they are like in each place. Now that he has been trained for a couple years I don't even let him go and he has to wait...unless he REALLY has to go or we have been out for awhile, because 99% of the time, he doesn't really have to go.

coasterqueen replied:
Kylie's been trained for quite a while now (age 27 months) and I can promise you that child will find a way to go to the bathroom when we are out, even if it's just a tinkle. rolleyes.gif

MyLuvBugs replied: Thanks ladies! I never thought of a towel for the carseat! Thanks! thumb.gif We did pretty good today at Sam's club. She went before we left and we stopped at the bathroom before we left the store and she did fine. She's so proud of herself. wub.gif But I did end up taking EVERYTHING...rubberpants, real undies, disposable pants, clean clothes, a trash bag..... rolleyes.gif I'm such a goober. laugh.gif

But I'm really worried about the car ride to my folks place on Thursday night. That's a 2 1/2 hour drive, so we'll have to see what she will do.

Thanks for all the advice. hug.gif

sky319 replied: Hello again.....Just wondering, Kirsten is 19 months and does pretty well at home with the potty and does sit on the potty at school but still is in that figuring it out stage. At school they won't do the panty thing until she's fully trained and I think that's where we are running into trouble. Also, she won't use a regular potty unless it has the small seat on it, afraid of falling in I think. How do you deal when you are out in public and they don't have a jr. potty at the store? I just can't move on to panties all the time knowing she won't use the big potty. I don't know if we will ever get to move on from training pants!

coasterqueen replied: Erika,

On long road trips when Kylie was first training we'd just stop every hour and give her the opportunity to stretch and go potty. We always tend to stop a lot anyways either so Kylie can go to the potty or the nurse Megan. rolleyes.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
You'll find all of my opinions in the other potty training threads. Good luck! smile.gif

MyLuvBugs replied:
we bought a travel potty seat that folds up. It works great when I remember to bring it rolleyes.gif

MyLuvBugs replied:
Thanks Karen! We'll see if we can do that.

CantWait replied: plastic bag and a towel for the carseat.
