Preschool costs

mysweetpeasWil&Wes wrote: I hope you all don't mind me asking, but what do you pay for preschool?

Right now, Wil gets free preschool through the school district because of his speech therapy. So I really had no idea how much we were saving until my friend told me it is around $240 a month at our school. But since we are moving, I can't guarantee that the free services will transfer, so I'm trying to budget. My sister pays $440 a month in CA and she said that was mid-range price for her area. huh.gif Just curious what the differences are between states, plus please let me know if it's public or private.

luvmykids replied: The twins went to a private preschool, that is really the only option here unless you qualify for Head Start or something like that. It was $280/mo for one, and a 10% discount for the second. That was part time, M,W,F from 9-1.

Our Lil' Family replied: ohmy.gif Holy cow! Private is the only option here...our church's program is $150/month for K3, not sure about K4, probably not more than $170.

ETA: and that's 5 days a week, 8:30-12:15

mom21kid2dogs replied: We live in Ohio in the south eastern part. We live in a area a rural, lower socioeconomic area. This greatly affects rates in our area.
O didn't go to preschool but here are the rates at the private school (Catholic) she attends now. Preschool (3 & 4 yo) is $540 a year. It's half day 2 days a week. Pre K (4 & 5) is $720. It's half day 3 days a week. I think the public school charges 1K a year for full day 5 day a week preschool but does have sliding fee scale based on income. They also offer 3 day programs but I'm not sure of the cost. Our rates are pretty low even for Ohio. O's yearly tuition for private school (K through 6) is only $2K a year for Catholics and $3K a year for non Catholics.

coasterqueen replied: OMG! I'm glad where we live we have the option for public Pre-K in our school district. One good thing our governor (blah!) has done is made sure all kids get Pre-K no matter what. I don't know how that works here for those who choose to go private and can't afford it, but nonetheless it's here.

GL.

PrairieMom replied: We are paying $180 a month for 4 days a week 9-11:30. that is at a church/private preschool.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Hmm... as long as you're 4 before December 31st here, you can go into pre-K at no cost... half days for the english school board and full days for the french school board...

MommyToAshley replied:
We don't live too far from you and the costs are about the same for both preschool and private school.

lisar replied: For Lexi I paid $380.00 a month to go to school from 8am till 12:30pm. Monday thru friday. They are expensive now a days.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Ethan's preschool is $245/mo. MW 9-2 and F 9-12:30

Maddie attends private school at the low, low cost of $800/mo.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Yikes you guys...I had no idea!!! huh.gif I really am fortunate now that I think about it...not that having a speech delay is a fortunate thing for Wil, but it is for our finances! Free preschool is a deal! Anyhow, I have a call into the new school district and will see if we can transfer his IEP. wink.gif

Our Lil' Family replied:
There's no way Thomas would be able to go to MCA! ohmy.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied:
That's wonderful, Dee Dee! I thought your area might be higher. My brother lives in NC Ohio and pays close $4K a year for Catholic grade school.

moped replied: Well here for Jack will be 160 a month for 3 days - 9-11:30.....the other one we looked at was 250 a month for 2 days.......

luvmykids replied:
WOW ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

The very, very least expensive private school of any kind here is $5k a year.

MommyToAshley replied:
Well, it's actually around $3400 after you pay the activity fees. But, I just sort of rounded off.

My2Beauties replied: OMG it's $150 per week per child in our county for 3 and 4 year old programs....which is why Hanna is not in Pre-K bawling.gif We just simply can't afford it. We pay that in daycare for both kids...we'd have to pay that plus $75 a week for Aubrey, our finances are just way too tight right now.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Katy's was $15 a day in CO. here I have found a huge range. The one we are trying to get Matt into next year is a parent co-op preschool and $150 a month for 3 days/week and parents have to volunteer 3 days per month. The one through teh school where KAty goes is $350 a month for 2 days a week, $475 3 days a week, and $700 for 5 days per week...it's crazy

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied:
Ugh, that's high. I could do the $150, I think. But volunteering in the classroom? How do you do that with Johnny? Oh, I guess you can leave him with family, right? I forget that I will NOW have that option too (babysitters)!! Woo hoo! Anyhow, I still haven't heard from the new school district whether the IEP transfers. Please cross your fingers. I don't think Wil's speech is still upto a 4-5 year old level, so he could still use some help. Hopefully the new school will think the same. wink.gif If not, well then I'm going to be working weekends. It's just not in our budget right now.

skinkybaby replied: G's is $130 this year for T & Th, 9-2. Next year it will be $170 for M & W, 9-2 and F 9-12.
