Presidental Question

TrulyBlessed wrote: I'm just really curious to who you are planning to vote for at this time for the presidential election. I guess you could call me a newbie because this will be my first year voting, so I really don't know what to watch for or what questions to ask, so I'm looking for some of your expertise. Who do you plan on voting for and why are you planning on voting for them (at this time)? Thanks!! wavey.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: oy boy this could become a very heated topic, let all keep it nice.

I am still waiting to see who the democrate will be beofre I make any decisions.

Crystalina replied:
As soon as I read the question I thought, "Oh no." emlaugh.gif

I will just say that yes I know who I'm voting for. I have a second choice in case my first falls through. happy.gif

My2Beauties replied: Oooh I'm backing away, it will be a democrat but I am undecided at this point.

Calimama replied: Your best bet is to research it. There are tons of websites out there that lay it out pretty clearly who stands for what on each issue wink.gif

You know you're tired when you type the same sentence twice. rolleyes.gif

TrulyBlessed replied: I'm sorry. I didn't intend for this to be a post that could get ugly. I was just looking for outside thoughts since I have no clue what democratic or republic is or what important issues I should be listening for. I don't want this to be where someone voices their opinion on who they are voting for and why and then someone else post they disagree because....

Maybe a moderator can delete this if it will cause an issue. I can just do research on the web. Sorry! blush.gif

gr33n3y3z replied:
lol good answer wink.gif

I may not vote bc I dont like any of them at this point
we shall see the lesser of the 2 evils emlaugh.gif

coasterqueen replied: No, I think it's ok to ask this question. It's great that you are wanting to explore your options and ask others for their opinions. I think we are all adults here and can talk about this in an adult manner.

I am voting Republican so that leaves me with only one choice. tongue.gif I'm not thoroughly crazy about my choice for Republican, but the Democratic choices scare the living daylights out of me. I'm Republican anyways, but if there was a Democratic candidate that I liked I could go to the other side. happy.gif My views pretty much are just more repub.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Ditto what Karen just said. happy.gif

A&A'smommy replied:
haha Karen I feel the same way!!!!!

PrairieMom replied: I don't know who I am voting for yet, (so obviously I plan to vote Democrat. wink.gif Karen and I can cancel each other out. rolling_smile.gif

I would check out some of the sites that were posted, and see where your feelings lead you. Some of the major things that people are worked up about are immigration, health care, the war, our economy, the list goes on.

Another good thing to read up on is the whole process. we vote using an electoral college, which is different than doing a popular vote. I always thought that each person counted for one vote, but it doesn't. Its a real "interesting" process. dry.gif

Our Lil' Family replied:
Ditto!

Anthony275 replied: im voting for obama

HuskerMom replied:
Ditto.

luvbug00 replied: i don't vote, i honestly don't believe it counts for anything. But i think the best option to find out who fits your beliefs best.

luvmykids replied: It's absolutely fine for you to start a topic like this, the only reason anyone commented is because it's a naturally hot topic. Just didn't want you to feel like you'd done something wrong wink.gif

I honestly don't know. I'm a Repub through and through but am open to whoever I feel suits what I'm after in a President. So far, nobody really floats my boat growl.gif

I had found a really good, unbiased site for researching candidates and their views, I'll see if I can find it for you.

TrulyBlessed replied: I'm kind of scared to vote since it is my first time. I'm kind of like how someone else posted wondering if my vote really matters and it seems like they can say anything they want during election time, but do they have to follow through on it? I don't like liars. lol

But now that I am getting older and more interested in our society and government, I feel that I should try to vote.

Religion is a big issue for me, so Obama scares me because they say he is muslim. I'm not sure if I am ready for a female president either. John McCain, I haven't really researched him yet.

I will check out some of the websites and then I'll be asking more questions. rolling_smile.gif I need you guys to teach me this political stuff.

PrairieMom replied:
okay. Obama is NOT muslim. rolleyes.gif

jcc64 replied: Obama is NOT a Muslim.
Please don't be afraid to vote- embrace it and cherish it- it's theoretically your opportunity to be heard. But do your research thoroughly- try to get it from unbiased sources, if that's even possible anymore.
I'm planning on voting for Obama. I've been voting for a very long time now (I'm 43), and I can honestly say this is the first candidate that I feel any real passion about. Obviously, I'm in a minority on this board, but apparently there are plenty of people out there who feel just as I do. I've never voted for a Repuplican, though I wouldn't rule it out if the right one came along. (nudge nudge, Colin Powell).

gr33n3y3z replied:
I agree thumb.gif

Anthony275 replied: obama is hawaiian and indonesian, protestant as if it matters rolleyes.gif

abunky replied: well no one seems to win me over in anyway , so who knows who i'm voting for

Calimama replied:
Well said.

Crystalina replied:
I know you've already been told O'bama is not a Muslim but if you go here you can read more about that and other things on him. His mother tried to keep all sorts of different religions at his fingertips. There are many families like that today. I know, I personally, read and look into other religions but I don't tell my kids about them just yet. They are too young and may get confused. I'm a Catholic but I'm always interested in reading about other religions.

TrulyBlessed replied: Thank you, I will read up more on Obama, because like I said I have only heard stuff and not done my own research.

I know to some people what their religion is doesn't matter, but it matters a lot to me, I mean not so much if they are Catholic, Baptist, Pentecostal, Protestant, but more or less if they believe in Jesus Christ.

I am always really curious to learn about other religions, one of the courses I am looking forward to taking is Philophsy on religion.

See this is why I asked the question, so I could gain knowledge from fellow americans instead of just reading what the political candidates say about themselves.

Thank you!

TrulyBlessed replied:
This has a lot of interesting information, because I too had heard that he was sworn in on the Quran.

jem0622 replied: I am voting for change. That should tell you my answer. ;-)

redchief replied: Hmmm... Colin Powell, huh?

I would have never believed I could agree on a possible candidate with Jeanne. Wonders never do cease. wink.gif

I usually vote Repub, because socialistic liberalism doesn't suit my conservative, libertarian views, and the Democratic party just stands for way too much government control for me. Unfortunately us libertarians aren't sufficient in numbers to buck the two party system.

Neither of the two democrats at the top appear to be the answer to this country's problems. But everyone has to learn who the candidates are and what they stand for and make their own choices.

On the question of whether or not your vote counts, it does. I know many younger people don't trust our system of government. Mostly it is because of misunderstanding. It may well be that some reform is necessary in our government to make each vote more meaningful in the mind of the poller. But before we all thumb our noses at our brand of republic, everyone should remember that in a mere 200 years. this system of government with it's broad checks and balances, became the most powerful nation in the world.

Crystalina replied:
Yes, I heard about the Quran thing also. I know his mother kept one in the house and I'm sure he read it but nope, he didn't swear in on it. happy.gif

TANNER'S MOM replied:
I didn't realize your were old enough to vote.

Anthony275 replied: ill be 18 in june
